In this video I am showing a full day of eating on a maingaining phase. Try out the MacroFactor nutrition app for 2 weeks free: bit.ly/jeffmacr... (use code JEFF)
I like to think of maingaining as a type of body recomposition where your goal is to maintain your bodyweight while gaining strength, and ideally, some muscle mass as well. For me that usually comes toward the end of an extended bulk, before starting a cut, but you can always just ride the maingain or recomp wave as long as it's working for you. I think it's better done at a moderate to slightly higher bodyfat percentage, in the 10-20% zone as a male or the 20-30% zone as a female. The closer you are to your natural genetic ceiling, the more necessary bulking phases become to add muscular size and the more you'll probably want to maingain at the slightly higher end of the bodyfat range, assuming your main goal is to make lean gains in strength and size.

Be very careful following Jeff Nippard's information. I started watching his videos a few months ago and shortly after the problems started. I had to buy new jeans because my thighs got too big for my old ones. This happened despite my waist getting smaller. I accidentally pulled the door handle off my front door and flipped over a small car (inadvertently) in the parking lot. At times I have this uncontrollable urge to consume kiwis, then rip my shirt off while screaming random studies about pronated vs supinated grip positions to activate the brachialis. I'm not sure how much longer I can keep this up. Guess I'll go eat some asparagus...

@@ishanjain3406 follow simnett nutrition, he’s got a decent physique and body composition. The general agreement is is to eat a variety(as a vegan or vegetarian or omnivore) and aim to hit 1.2g to 1.6g of protein per kg of bodyweight; maybe even up to 2.2 if you are cutting. Supplement if you have to, but for the average person with 15 or below body fat, a modest calorie surplus will build the most muscle optimally(so you might not need to pound the protein powder with the extra energy supply)

Between your videos, books, and other sources you provide, I reversed my diabetes within 3 months. And by the end of the year I had lost 89lbs. Jeff actually gives a clear definition of "maingaining" and when it should be done. It has a specific use case and is not for gaining muscle unless you're already at a relatively high level of body fat. It's done between a bulk and a cut, but doesn't eliminate those things either. He even goes a little into the origin of the term. Solid flex.

Very educational video!! I have never really worked out, and thought I was fine until I hit 325lbs. I knew something had to change, but I didn't quite know where to start until one of my friends recommended a meal plan from Next Level Diet. It helped me to take care about my calories, and I even started going on daily walks with my wife. The results were amazing. After about a year I lost 115lbs, and now I have more energy waking up every day. On top of that, my wife and I found out that we are even more in love than before.😎 The key is you got to commit to it first. You got to commit to doing it and then you've got to stick with it and be consistent!!

Hey Jeff, is the 0.7-1 g/lb of protein still recommended even for body recomp? I know in your book it says to eat 1.2-1.6 g/lb depending on your lean body mass.
@JeffNippard
@JeffNippard 2 жыл бұрын
I still prefer the figures in my book on the individual level because they use lean body mass and therefore are more specific and accurate for any single person. The reason I’ve been going with 0.7-1g/lb in videos lately is that I found people were getting really confused about how to calculate their lean body mass (or not noticing that it was g/lb of LBM* and not just g/lb) and so, 0.7-1g/lb is just the simpler approximation for easy public communication. For most people, there will be overlap between those two recommendations anyway, but in the event of a conflict, I’d go with what’s in the book for recomp 👍🏼 hope that helps!

@@JeffNippard I’m assuming MacroFactor does that I’ll say on the balanced diet with moderate exercise, it only a gram difference from 0.7g/lb for my whole weight. Given I did sort of guess with my body fat %, I’m always dehydrated so those easy electronic ones tend to predict my percentage way lower than possible: example last time I was 8% with an EIM. Didn’t use a skinfold, but based on my bmi and various body circumference methods, I’m around 20% not 8%. Will likely be getting more accurate when I go back to the gym instead of my home gym

So far, I've seen a dozen definitions of maingain
@Alexdelarge1975
@Alexdelarge1975 2 жыл бұрын
In regards to using a pre-workout, I've been training for over 10 years now and I've tried different types of pre-workouts. Some were very good but overall I don't think it's really worth the money. A few months ago I started microdosing psilocybin as a pre-workout, something that actually started unintentionally. It does not give me extra energy but it will give me a great focus, something that turns out to be more valuable to me than energy. I'm using psilocybin as a medicine to fight depression but it turns out it also has its benefits in the gym, at least to me. Try it out but be very, very careful with the dosage.
@elkorso
@elkorso 2 жыл бұрын
I definitely can see what you mean that more focus can be more appropriate for a workout. know I’ve been wired on pre workout or speed and I’d just have so much energy but I had no way to channel it to focus on one thing like executing a lift optimally. Personally I never got much focus from mding mushrooms however I felt enlightened and motivated for the day ahead which would definitely contribute to a successful workout
@Alexdelarge1975
@Alexdelarge1975 2 жыл бұрын
@@elkorso Thank you for your comment! A difficulty with having 'more focus' is maybe the definition and its subjectivity. For example, if I take 3 scoops of preworkout or even snort some speed (yes, I tried that also) its effects can physical be measured. You won't have that with psilocybin / magic mushrooms. My average dosage of 350mg psilocybin will give me great focus in the gym but maybe will freak out somebody who's unfamiliar with it. Taking this in consideration, I guess this will make mushrooms never a popular mainstream supplement. It's a very personal preference and subjective experience I guess. But I think everybody will agree on the following: You can use a fantastic preworkout but if one has a lack of focus, your exercises will be far from optimal. I think focus is one of the foundations of a great workout.
@elkorso
@elkorso 2 жыл бұрын
@@Alexdelarge1975 yeah I think I understand what you’re saying, like there is a wider variance in effects of psilocybin than there would be for other stimulants. So many different factors that come into play with it. Strains, fresh or dried, tolerance, weight of the person, overall how mushrooms affect them at any dose and especially mentality as well. I think there’s something so special about all psychedelics, how some people can have such a life changing experience or the exact opposite. I know for me personally the last few times I’ve taken acid I can really see all these problems and break into understanding why I have them & how they’re affecting me. The last trip I took I tapped into my childhood trauma and feelings about myself that I’ve been suppressing since I was 10 years old. It’s just crazy to me that drugs like psilocybin and acid are illegal. Yeah you’re 100% on the ball my friend
@Alexdelarge1975
@Alexdelarge1975 2 жыл бұрын
@@elkorso I had to laugh when reading your comment. Not because I think it was funny but because of recognition regarding what you wrote about childhood trauma. I think I know what you mean my friend. A you probably also know, the scientific research regarding psilocybin has increased over the past 2 decades or so due its positive results. With that I'm confident that it eventually will be integrated in the mainstream psychiatry - at least by the western part of the world, as research shows its therapeutic value. In my country (the Netherlands) I know there are at least 2 scientific studies ongoing. But I guess online shops like Body & Fit won't ever sell it as a great product to enhance your focus LOL. As you wrote, it just has a (too) wide range of effects.

Hey bro I just found your channel today when searching for ways to train my neck. I love your stuff. I also wanted to share with you my fat burning technique which is based on some knowledge I acquired through biochemistry. Long story short: I'm about 5'9-5'10. I was weighing 180 lbs approximately 3 months ago. I'm at 160 now. Leaner, stronger, better, etc...I started drinking black coffee (nothing else in it as to not alter its chemical composition) before every single workout. What this does is kicks your body into beta oxidation which makes you burn fatty acids for energy versus muscle glycogen. This, coupled with intermittent fasting and a clean diet, high in protein has been the key. Maybe if you read this and find it interesting you can try it out yourself and perhaps make a video on it. I got several friends on it too and they've all seen results in the form of getting leaner. I haven't lost any strength either which is interesting. The opposite: I've been getting stronger too. I know that's a lot haha but anyone else reading this can try it out and see if it works for them too
