Best thing I've found for arthritis is eliminate all the inflammatory stuff from the diet (sugar, flour, certain oils, processed foods - pretty much switched to carnivore for 60 days then omnivore after that), drink bone broth, collagen peptides in my coffee. I once could barely walk in the morning when I got out of bed, knew in my joints the weather was changing well in advance, now I have no arthritic pain, can hike and bike with ease. Feels like I rolled back the clock 30+ years. It's awesome to be able to move freely and have no pain. 😊

Ditto. Quit sugar, cheap flours. Got saliva pH up to neutral where it belongs. When pH was low -fresh lemon juice cut with water popped pH up for me, (no metabolic disease here). No need to leech calcium out of my bones to neutralize uric acid! Drs act like they don’t understand what causes osteoarthritis? Uric acid can turn into painful shards. Once I saw a picture of my arthritis from an operation the ‘depositing’ was obvious.

@@roberthopgood1894 this is true well spotted a good point a pinch of black pepper helps the termeric get absorbed another point on this well on the subject is that a lot of vitamins are fat soluble so a good way to help vitamins to get absorbed is to take 2 table spoons of virgin olive oil and or a table spoon of coconut oil with tablets and always have tablets after food so the tablets are not directly on the stomach wall these oils are good for you and safe hope that helps 💯💪👍🤔

Then you have a mild case. I smoke it, and grow it, it distracts my focus from the pain. Every night 3 hours into sleep I wake up screaming in pain, try to reposition my legs and knees, sometimes I get lucky and go back to sleep for a short time. My ex-doctor told me to take ibuprofen "It's safe and you can take all you want, almost like candy". Looked it up and she was lying, it is not meant to take daily or nightly, it can cause all kinds of problems. Then she wanted me to take a covid shot. My bad thought doctors were there to help you.

I use all three of these. The turmeric is in the whole foods form. I grate it fine and heat with black pepper and ginger freshly grated. Add chicken broth and gelatin. Usually red pepper and garlic is in there. A savory tea. The only place i have trouble is in my spine where I fractured 5 vertebrae and compressed the discs between. I take Arnica Montana when I have to stand over the sink or stove for extended periods of time. Maybe once a week. I am 63. My work involves almost total sitting. Not good for the body.

One of the things that Dr. Peng doesn't mention about curcumin is it's poor bioavailablity. If you're going to take a curcumin product you should take one which has relatively high bioavailablitiy. Three different formulations of curcumin have this higher bioavailability: Longvida curcumin, Meriva curcumin, and Curowhite curcumin.

I take and give my elderly cats, glucosamine + Chondroitin . I take 1000mg and 1200mg with MSM 300mg. I give my cats a quarter of my capsule each. I looked up a feline supplement and noted 250 mg + 300mg + 300mg. Works out about 1/4 of a capsule. I mix it in a tube type treat you buy at the supermarket. Cats are more active and now climb up onto the couch and bed. I take 2 capsules a day but could make it twice a day. I’m going to add turmeric to my regimen.

I use turmeric but was over doing it using a heaping tablespoon instead of a quarter teaspoon and actually turned yellow which my doctors thought was jaundice. I stopped drinking alcohol and my liver numbers are now only slightly over normal. I now only use turmeric sveral times a week. Blueberry smoothies with plain yogurt, unsweetened almond milk, flax seed, and Moringa has worked really well for me as well as Chaga ice tea with some monk fruit and apple cider vinegar. Turmeric with homemade chicken broth and black pepper. At one point I could hardly walk and now I get around OK although ballroom dancing is out of the question. Not only that I am stage 3 kidney disease and my numbers actually improved to the point my cardiologist was a little shocked. There are a lot of fake doctors and just plain civilians out there giving advice. No one ever seems to take into account that people are different and have different genetics and metabolisms.

Took glucosamine, fish oils condroitin and msm for years all helped. Later added curcumin,, devil's claw Boswelia amd marine collagen. They all definitely work, when the condition gets worse to the point that you need joint replacement they no longer work as there is little cartlidge left

I take Glucosamine HCI & Vit D3 with Boswellia, a Puritan;s Pride product, item 33048. I have only taken this, as needed for pain relief. Because of recently discovered arthritis I will be taking it once a day. It does contain shellfish ingredients.

Dear Dr. Peng, I am taking turmeric,Glucosamine sulfate, the K series, and vitamin D for playing violin. I also am taking melatonin for sleep. I have been taking these for about a week and a half. My fingers feel looser my back pain is almost 0 and my violin playing is much more rhythmic. I originally started Glucosamine sulfate about a month or two ago then stopped. I didn't like the idea of suffering in my body. I also am taking cod liver oil. My joints in my fingers are looser and quicker. So far no adverse reactions except dry mouth which may be related to my drinking French roast coffee a great deal. I have quit coffee for the time being and feel great! I did have swollen achey brain from coffee.and head aches due to caffeine. Otherwise I feel great. I am wondering about co Q 10 and what it is? Thanks and enjoyed your review. Hope this helps someone.bye.

Hey Jeff. You've evaluated the evidence for supplements symptom (pain) modification for OA that is already established... but I'm a younger person with an very strong family history of early osteoarthritis & already have OA signs & symptoms (confirmed by my family doc). I'd love to see a video analyzing any supplements that could delay or slow the onset of OA! People would love to know if there are any supplements that can actually SLOW THE LOSS OF CARTILAGE rather than just reduce pain & improve symptoms!
@JeffreyPengMD

Unfortunately these studies do not exist! The best available evidence to slow the progression of arthritis is to focus on overall health, especially when it comes to metabolic health.

Good video Doc! I have tried all of those supplements for osteoarthritis without much success. I still take them but not on a daily basis any longer. The only thing that really helps me is taking two Aleve once a week on Fri & one Aleve on Sat. This gives me a lot of relief until around Tues. Anyway, that's just what I do. Dr. Peng, Can you take Boswellia serrata, Turmeric curcumin, and glucosamine chondroitin all together? I have had knee pain for about five years. At that time I started taking glucosamine chondroitin at half the recommended dosage and within a week my arthritis pain in my knees was mostly gone and for the most part it stayed that way. Now two months ago after almost five years it has come back with a vengeance. I am 61 years old and active.

It was difficult to do tricep and chest exercises without me feeling my elbows crying as I lifted the weights. Now at 20 and I am able to do skullcrushers with a decent amount of weight and controlling the eccentric portion. I take equates glucosamine chondrotin with 20% standardized AKBA boswellia, and natures made turmeric curcumin. This is anecdotal though!

I’m having trouble following your dosing recommendation for BS. Maybe the issue is with the top listings on Amazon but all BS extracts are 800-3250mg… can’t find anything in the 100-250mg range. Anyway, thank you for this video. Your other videos too, especially PRP and other ortho biologicals. As a precautious and wary person, I find my dr’s attitude towards PTOA (I suffered an ankle pilon when I was 25) worrying and your energy is a breath of fresh air!

My guess is you're seeing the resin dosing rather than the extract. Find a supplement that is NSF or USP certified (some example links in the video description) and then follow the manufacturer dosing recommendation.

@@JeffreyPengMD thank you very much for the reply doctor! I got all 3, I was familiar with the brand so it was a no brainer. Based on your recommendations, I am doing the following dosing daily: 1. G+C 1500mg + 800-1200mg; 4 capsules - 2000mg + 1000mg (total) I am also doing Type 2 Powder Collagen and Fish Oil. Ate tons of this stuff over the years. No effect. Ortho doc says it's all snake oil. Just dissolved into nothing by stomach acid. I've learned the hard way that cartilage is a rare gem that does not regrow or get stronger with exercise, as does muscle, bone, and ligaments. Some far out treatments out there, like replacement with animal cartilage, or drilling bone ends to produce scar tissue that mimics cartilage a little. And of course, mechanical replacements. But rule 1, treat your cartilage as the princess it is. Limit impact activity and keep your weight to its healthy minimum.

Just as Vitamins need mineral cofactor to active, Glucosamine- chondroitin need hyaluronic acid to be active in stimulating chondrocytes and actually slowly rebuild the joint. Collagen 2 is also needed Fortunately chicken sternum has both as does chicken bone broth. We CAN restore function if joints are not too far gone. I had a severe rear end collision. And will add Boswellia to my daily protocol to help my injured knees.
This is Why Arthritis Sufferers Need More Magnesium!
