Hi. I have an interview later and I'm not sure if you'll still see this but I hope you can still help. The real reason I want to leave my current job is because of my line manager who keeps micro managing me and the heavy workload which is not fit for 1 person only. I've already brought up the heavy workload to my line manager but she just told me that's normal and proceeds on giving me more tasks to handle. She also nitpicks everything and nags on everything on a daily basis. Also, I thought that the position is for an officer but it's actually like a fake officer position. It used to be a staff position which was just upgraded in job title years ago and what I'm looking for is a real officer position with staff to manage. How do I structure that positively in an interview?
@JeffSu
@JeffSu 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing the context. It seems like a difficult situation to be in; hope you hang in there! In your answer perhaps you can talk about how there was a mis-alignment between you and your manager when it came to workload and bandwidth management, and you tried A, B, C but unfortunately your manager didn't meet you halfway. Good luck!

Hey Jeff, love your content. I've been studying your channel and am approaching my second interview where I believe I'll be discussing compensation which I know is between 35-45K. Any tips on how I can steer the offer to as close to 45K as possible? I want the job either way, no matter what, but would obviously be happier earning more doing it. Thanks!
@JeffSu
@JeffSu 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Deni! Thanks for the comment, and I'm happy to hear you've made it to the part of the interview process where compensation is being discussed, congrats! I'm assuming you have already watched my salary negotiation video right? If yes, the only thing I'd add is to prepare 3 talking points as to why you deserve to be on the higher end of the range as possible. For example if they say "Well Deni, we are going to offer you 35K and that's policy..." you can reply with "I understand, that does sound like a standard figure. If I may, I'd like to point out that..." and get them to the 45K. Best of luck!

@deninakonecni9039 3 жыл бұрын
@@JeffSu I have watched it, yes, and you've magically detected my predicament! It was heavily inferred that my started salary would "probably" be 40K, and that the higher numbers for similar roles that can be found on Glassdoor or similar websites are wildly exaggerated and unrealistic. However, I feel like I'd be walking a thin line if I did encounter a "policy" scenario, because I don't want to walk away from the job, but would genuinely feel uncomfortable negotiating a salary if in fact the policy does limit it to a specific, non-negotiable number.
@JeffSu
@JeffSu 3 жыл бұрын
@@deninakonecni9039 Then I only have 1 piece of advice for you: Unless you come off as rude or condescending the other party will NOT walk away just because you tried to negotiate. Gauge their reaction: if it seems like there is literally 0 wiggle room, pivot to non-monetary benefits and perks :)

Question: If my team is currently under reorganization, as the company would like to out-source the services to 3rd party. Is it a fact that I can mention? I mean, I might lose the job, not because of my poor performance, but because of the company decision...
@JeffSu
@JeffSu 3 жыл бұрын
Your situation is very unique. Because if you were already unfortunately let go, you can simply say "Yes due to company restructuring and a new direction, my skills were not in line with what they needed." BUT because you haven't LOST the job you (you might lose the job), you shouldn't proactively say "Yea I MIGHT be let go soon" because that gives the impression (1) You're not confident in your own abilities, and (2) The company might let you go because they don't think you are a high performer. So in this case, DO NOT say it's because of the re-org, but use what I mentioned in this video as if you will continue having your current position!

@JeffSu yep. Interviewer is looking for a signal on (depending on a level) your culture fit, your ability to navigate internal politics, or just you being/not being difficult, which you absolutely correctly pointed out. The problem here is that any experienced interviewer would immediately raise a flag on fully prepared and recited answer like you did - because it gives zero signal. Real mastery is ruthless preparation AND ability to tell prepared stories as if you're improvising just now - and I would argue that it's the only reliable way to pass 6+ bar in Meta/Google.
