The thing I like the most about Constantine's Jekyll and Hyde is that unlike every other version I've heard, Constantine's Hyde is the exact same voice as his Jekyll, but it has a different air of confidence. I think the way he does it really brings out that the potential to be Hyde was in Jekyll all along. However, while that symbolism and artistic interpretation is wonderful, it brings up an issue in the song of Confrontation. Which reprises No One Must Ever Know, Alive, Streak of Madness, and Transformation all in one song. It's a melody of the numbers where Jekyll and Hyde struggle for control. But because of Constantine's choice to speak most lines and end the phrase with a high note, its often very hard to tell the difference between his jekyll and his Hyde. I know the song very well, as I've performed it. But from an outside perspective this might be difficult to tell the difference between. This is not a criticism as much as it is an analysis. I like what Constantine did with this role. He's not my favorite, but I like his versions of the songs for what they are, and I don't dislike them for what they aren't.

If you listened to any of Wildhorn's or Calhoun's interviews, you would know that this is a 'concept' album, not intended to be taken as a 'cast recording and the musical was a 'revisal' of the original; in Frank's words, "Why would I want to do the original again.. it's already been done." He also said he hand-picked Constantine for the dual role because his voice is exactly how he envisioned Jekyll/Hyde from the inception. The live show was actually great- and Constantine (who is a graduate of Boston Conservatory, btw) got standing ovation MID show. The Jekyll and Hyde tour also won the Broadway World 'Audience Poll' for best touring musical last year- hundreds of thousands of voters loved it, as did I and virtually everyone around me in the audience; I saw the show several times while it was the west coast!.

When you put the whole play together, it makes sense. The play was "modernized" and the music is also more modern. so altogether, it works. and it isnt bad either!

I wish everyone on KZbin would just stop bashing this version of Jekyll and Hyde! If this music were like all the other Jekyll and Hyde productions, everyone would say, it's soooo repetitive! Same classical sound. This was made in 2012, people! New Year, new orchestrated soundtrack! Plus a lot of the younger generation (teens-20's) would appreciate it more because it stars an American Idol that they all know and love! Gimme a break, old man! If you like Motley Crue, you'd like this, too!

I find that works in spots here and there for me but falls flat in other parts. This song is really hard to get right in people's eyes. While the rock doesn't fit with the time period and stands out by itself, I find it still has a good driving beat in some parts. But like I said before, I think some other parts of the song fall flat for me and maybe shouldn't have been changed as much as they were

these voics work on a concept album type deal, i would even want to see it live, but in a more classic way, no projections, no weird choreography (bring on the men) just a good ol' broadway show style.

I like it. It's like a rock opera.
@natalies68578 жыл бұрын
obviously this version of the production isn't suppose to be like the original or any other version of the show. Hence, the concept album. The director/producers of this version wanted to try something different, they chose rock. This version works for some people and not for others. Frankly I enjoyed it - they picked a great Jekyll/Hyde to do the rock version. So of course it isn't going to sound like Anthony Warlow's or Robert Cucciolli or Hasselhoff's version....its not suppose to.

I just saw the matinee showing of this yesterday in Chicago, and for not knowing the plot line going into it whatsoever, I LOVED this show. Personally, I think the more modern twist to this song, and many other songs as well, is what made me enjoy this musical so much. I think he portrays the good/evil side very well. And as a Techie, I thoroughly enjoyed the tech and special effects during this song. May have been over the top but it was impressive!
@SuperPhantomfan511 жыл бұрын
is it just me, or does Constantine's Hyde remind you of Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget. The voice device they use to make it sound growly-''I'll get you next time, Gadget!" LOL!!

I was at that show as well! Well, the Thursday at 7 show. However, if that is the show you're talking about, I think his breathing did get better as it went on. And though Alive and Confrontation were modernized/made a little bit more into rock ballads than the standard broadway classic, I think they did it alright; I liked this version just as much as the original, if you take it on it's own rather than a rendition. (Though the special effects were a liiitle bit overdone in Confrontation ^^;)

For the version of Confrontation of the show I'm in, we're going straight for the boss battle feel. I'm being given a big flaming sword, some badass armor made of real diamond, and we're completely changing the lyrics to more fit our theme. Hyde can now breathe fire, and assumes the shape of a dragon. Also, it is going to be the single worst thing to ever be placed on a stage. Listen to Warlow or Evan. Here's are some dandy little links just for you: /watch?v=z1RfgQjC9uA and /watch?v=O-QqYJxlzE8

Just went to see this last night and it was an okay adaptation. Some parts worked and some didnt. All the leads were good and I will even say this song was okay.But i prefer the classic style more and I was outraged at what they did to "Facade" and "Murder". And yes, I am in my early 20s and i prefer the original style.

I'm 17 and I went and saw it with about 15 other teenagers on Friday and I think there was two people who really enjoyed it. I understand the look and sound that they were going for, but they took it too far. Confrontation was tacky and honestly, comedic. The directors took a powerful song and made it a joke. However, it's not fair to bash Constantine for the way he sounds as Hyde, it's not his fault he received poor direction.
@codyyoung3711 жыл бұрын
Constantine is an amazing singer no doubt, but he doesn't have the acting ability the original actor had in Frank Wildhorn's version. I felt it led to a great sounding song, but it didn't hold the emotion the original did

This does not work. Rock/Metal doesn't work in Jekyll and Hyde. The play takes place in the 1800s..rock wasn't invented yet. It doesn't fit the tone of the play. This is good as a cover...but not for the actual song. There's not much difference between his Jekyll and Hyde.
@rantsinrap10 жыл бұрын
Actually...Rock works quite well. Rob Evan's version of this (In the Resurrection I believe) is fantastic. But this? This is a shame. Metal doesn't mix at all. I absolutely hate this version. It sucks because, I want to see this show live, but I REFUSE to support this version. If only the 1994 concept cast (with Anthony Warlow) had done a stage version.
@mathut378210 жыл бұрын
rantsinrap I haven't heard Rob Evan's Resurrection, so I can't form an opinion about it. I do respect your opinion, though. The only times I have heard rock or metal used in this show have been Constantine Moroulus (I just know I misspelled that) and Sebastian Bach's, which was atrocious if you ask me. I've only seen rock versions of this show done poorly. I enjoy some of the songs from this version of the show (This Is the Moment is awesome) but on stage, I don't think it works. I'll have to give Resurrection a try though.
