Seeing you almost immediately dunk on Irving, *the main lord* ,and fall into this cycle of not using him and then him becoming a liability so early reminded me just how important first impressions are for games like this. It's not an uncommon thing for fire emblem lords! look at roy, eliwood, eirika, nobody likes using these guys because they start off really frail, can't do much damage, and they are literally a walking game over condition so why would you ever explicitly want them to see combat if there are other options? Conversely, people seem to love lords like Ike and Hector because they're bulky as hell and hit for well into the double digits with just their base stats. I think the coolest lords in the series though, like Leif and Ephraim, start the game with a really good personal weapon like the light brand (1-2 range magic sword in a game where enemies have crap for res and you don't get a mage for a while) or reginleif (one-shots or at least one-rounds anywhere between 22 and 45 cavaliers almost for free because it has an effective 30 might against them) that you use to feed them Exp and just generally be useful early on.

Irving struggles with being immediately less interesting, fun and/or useful than his companions. His personality and looks are kinda bland, so there's few reasons to prioritize him in combat. An FE-style MC usually does best if they're either a damage-sponge or just reliable across the board from the start. It's always the worst when the one unit you are required to bring to every battle is the unit you least want to use.

id love to see a story where the setting is a post reform kingdom where everything looks evil but everyone is trying their best to be good. but the wouldbe protag characters who are the antagonists dont believe the kingdom has changed at all

Aye, the indefinite twitch ban only lasted six months - Jello could in theory stream there again if he wants (he won't for increasingly more obvious reasons, but he could). But the videos are back. Now the only vods lost were streams which weren't saved to Twitch. (Or saved elsewhere, like the Later Alligator streams were.)

I love shining force it's the biggest "Aerith and Bob" trope I've ever seen. You have party members with names like Balbaroy, Zylo, Vankar and Torasu, while your main character is named Max. One of the coolest villains halfway through the game is named Elliot and the boss in the same chapter not 2 battles later is named Balbazak. Shoutouts to my girl Anri the first ice mage I've seen in fiction.

Just started playing this after the announcement of the sequel being in the works having backed the game a while ago, but haven't had the chance to play it very much due to an increase in work with the mid year sales so it's great to see this stream uploaded.

I actually really liked this game, it's not GREAT but it has a lot of little nice charms to it like the hp bottles. I would love for them to make another and build on it what they have here. It had more charm than half the fire emblem rom hacks I've played.

Honestly, first impressions, I kinda wish they'd stuck to the pixelart style for dialogue and cutscenes. As nice as the portraits are, I feel like having pretty pixel talk sprites would have really added to the charm that the gameplay has in relation to the cutscene sections.

If you'll notice on (checks notes) your own timestamp, the problem is not that there's no menu. The problem is that at launch there was a glitch where randomly the character menu will open with the selection on "END" by default. Because you normally use "ATTACK" by default and players will instinctively double-tap the button to check how functional a unit is against the enemy, they are VERY likely to muscle-memory their way into ENDING a turn by accident.

I ain't going to watch this stream again (actually, I might) but I distinctly remember you saying that the menu didn't pop up, and blamed faulty code when the problem is counterintuitive design. I mean the problem is more in how you just have to stop 1 sec to see what the actual problem is and everytime the misclick happened you just started shitting on the devs talking abt a very small thing (that can be easily avoided if you just wait 0.1 sec after selecting a unit but that shouldve still been fixed for quality of life reasons I agree yes) like a game-breaking catastrophe for about an HOUR during the stream. I get that the quick pacing a creator has to keep up while streaming makes it difficult to catch this stuff but just paying a little bit of attention to what’s happening on screen makes the gaming experience and the stream easier to follow for everyone, at one point I couldn’t keep up with what the problem was first you said the menu didn’t appear, then it was a controller issue, then it was a hotkey, then a problem with the code then a bug like what’s even going on.

@@mareetta5922 TLDR: you don't know what you're talking about. "a very small thing" Clearly you have never played a classic Fire Emblem or Emblem-like. In classic FE, the mistake of ending a character's turn early could mean the premature death of a character. Depending on the size of the roster, how fast you get units, and how many you can take into battle, a character death is infuriating; to the point where people would restart the chapter or just stop playing. That's why the FE devs made casual mode where death isn't permanent, just annoying. "that can be easily avoided if you just wait 0.1 sec after selecting a unit" Ever heard of muscle memory? In this type of game it's VERY easy to develop the muscle memory of double-clicking to check attacks against enemy units as you think about your next course of action. I'm going to assume you didn't watch any of jello's playthrough of FE: Path of Radiance or the 2 playthroughs of FE: Radiant dawn. If you did, you would know how much experience Jello has with FE and FE-likes. If you want to know my experience with FE, I've been playing since Awakening and I do the exact same shit Jello does in regards to controlling characters.
