Jelly FAB

The FAB, or Foam Arsed Blob, is a blend of a Booby and the Blob. Two popular attractor flies. This version, the Jelly FAB, features Jelly Fritz. Once wet Jelly Fritz becomes translucent offering trout a candy-like appeal.

Another UK hack to add more effective buoyancy to the pattern add a vertical cut into the foam to about three quarters of its length. Giving the appearance when viewed from above of a “Y” this increases the surface area and therefore increases the buoyancy. If you also fold a length of uv floss four times add it under the foam before you the in the foam. Then cut it slightly longer than the foam Then that hot spot becomes a fire spitting FAB. Think the trout is a heat seeker and the fluorescent tail is a jet tailpipe.

Thanks Michael, since I first uploaded this video I learned about the value of splitting the foam tail and now do it on all my FABs. I will give your floss trick a try. Glo-Brite Floss should work nicely. Cheers, Phil

@@PhilRowleyFlyFishing I referred to the floss tail as fire spitting as that was the family friendly version. Also UTube might have issues if spitting had one letter substitution for an “h” 😂

Ive noticed on some FABs you split the tail, but not this one???

Hi Tim, Thanks for taking the time to post your comment. This was the first FAB I featured on my channel over 6 years ago. I have since started splitting the tails on all my FAB's now as it provides better buoyancy and action to the fly. Cheers, Phil

What size Jelly Fritz do you use, i.e. 15mm, 10mm, Block or Baby?

Hi Gary, I use two sizes primarily 15mm for my larger flies and 6MM micro Jelly Fritz for my smaller flies. I also use Daphnia Fritz on some flies too. Cheers, Phil

Phil, I can not locate 5mm Pink foam. On the CL website they do not list pink as a color they stock. Any suggestions? William

Hi, William, you can certainly use other colors too. I use white most often. You can also color the foam using a permanent marker. I hope this helps, thanks Phil

Hi Gary, thanks for watching my video. I checked the package to confirm and it was Biscuit which is a really pale washed out pink. It might just be the color corrections that are affecting what you see as well as the pink foam underbody. Thanks, Phil
