Keep doing what you’re doing - it takes a lot of time and effort to put a video tutorial together. These people could at any time choose to hit the pause button and choose to watch another video, yet here they are taking the time to be nasty. Ignore their unhappiness in life. That’s on them, not you, and it’s not your responsibility to make them happy. Keep doing what you’re doing! Some of us choose the find the value in anything. Lovely quilt!

Just finished a Jelly Roll race over thanksgiving that included a ton of scraps (no actual Jelly roll). I cut up some FQ, had some binding leftovers, it was just a big pile. After the 2 strip set I cut in some 4 patches I had made from scraps also. Final product - 64 x 105. I trimmed off the bottom and added 2 border strips on the side to bring to it to 75 x 98 - so a very respectable Twin XL. If you have a pile of scraps and a College Bound teen - great way to make them a quick quilt. Used some flannel 108, and quilted with diagonal lines. Machine binding. Simple, fast and if you really want a quilt in a weekend - it CAN BE DONE.

That turned out so pretty! I have a jelly roll would like to try this with. It looks like fun! I think, since my jelly roll is all solids in one color family, I may put a little square of white or a print between each strip, just for interest. Thanks for sharing, this is such a nice way to make a quilt because it is not complicated, yet turns out lovely!

The process is simple. You sew the two ends (of the one very long string of strips) together. Repeat until it is the size you like. The video does explain this, but I can see how it could be confusing.

I'm using something from Steady Betty, but I have been unable to locate them to tell you if you can even get them any more. But, I also use a special tape for your machine. Cluck Cluck Sew offers them and I've seen them on Temu. The take has 1/4 marks and the center line. It's more basic, but I use that a lot now.

Why aren't you pressing the joins? Seems to me that would be as beneficial as cutting off selvedges if not more so. Another question: why is it important to find a jelly roll that has big contrast? I would think that a low volume roll could also be interesting in a more subtle way.-But I have not tried this so maybe I am incorrect. Thanks!

Pressing the joints is something you can do, but I don't find it necessary. It's a personal preference. I like the jelly rolls with lots of contrast, not just large prints. This is because it will show off the different fabric strips used, but you can make these types of quilts anyway you like. Again, it's just my preference, but it's not a rule. @@SoftSquares I think the contrasted sections turned out great! It gives your quilt life and not just blended colors. With jelly roll quilts you never know what you’re going to get. I will rewatch the video to see how the strip colors were added to get the chunky contrast effect. That is also a gorgeous jelly roll!

Thank you for your opinion, but the look of the finished product is all that matters. No one is going to see the seams when it's done. And I was struggling with my machine. In the end it turned out nice. Future videos will, hopefully, be better.

@@SoftSquares if one has never done this before, or one is new to quilting, I think it is very important. Good habits need to be established so one can be sure of success. Yes, it was very pretty in the end. But, some of the techniques used would be lost on a beginner. Sorry for your machine troubles. We’ve all had those.

I understand your point about new quilters, however probably 99% of my learning came from watching videos from a variety of KZbinrs, and I learn something from each one. I’d guess that most people learning a new skill don’t watch just one channel. As another human that shares this planet with you I’d ask that you consider your words and criticism in the future. Maybe some gentle constructive advice would be heard better from ALL of us. Because your nasty, critical, judgmental comment is heard by more than just this KZbinr. AND…some of the best and most popular quilters out there say “Finished is better than perfect!”
