I think I remember reading somewhere that the actor who plays Alton Benes, Elaine's father, was pretty much like his character in real life. He's a very famous character actor, and very gruff and intimidating. And supposedly it wasn't ever entirely clear if he understood the concept of the show or what the joke was supposed to be. So he was just him, and it worked!

@@tremorsfan Correct! Lawrence Tierney apparently used the butcher knife he took from the set to pretend to stab Jerry Seinfeld while imitating the music from the shower scene. Originally, he was supposed to be a recurring character, but his odd behaviour (including the above) made the cast & crew very uncomfortable & he was never asked to reprise the role.
@jollyrodgers7272
@jollyrodgers7272 4 ай бұрын
"It's a show about Nothing" became the actual pitch to network executives. Hardcore film noir actor Lawrence Tierney played Elaine's father, who was a star in the '40s and '50s, but fell out of favor as being a drinker and difficult on and off the set. At one point he had been 86-ed from every bar in the Hollywood area for fighting. You might remember him from RESERVOIR DOGS (1991), and Tarantino said the entire cast and crew hated his guts by the end of the first week of filming. I'm enjoying how you react to this series! Don't skip ahead - just keep watching and see how the characters develop and plot(s) thicken! They became totally iconic, and once-in-a-lifetime hilarious.

Jen when you said "Elaine's dad is a celebrity" I thought you might be interested in Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Father. Her late father, Gérard Louis-Dreyfus, was a French billionaire who was chairman of the Louis Dreyfus Company. Her whole family is super rich, so it's kind of cool that she decided to do her own thing and become an actress rather than live off the family money. Also Jerry should have just checked his jacket at place they met Elaine's father and came back for it later, just saying.

Jen, when you talk about the scenes where they have conversations about things that happened off screen... there's no way they could actually film all of those, let alone squeeze them into the show. It's only a 22 minute episode and these shows were done weekly. Write, re-write, table read, edit, rehearsal, film, edit, submit to network for approval. Not to mention they'd have to build more sets, props, add different wardrobe, change of clothes. In fact, in the later seasons as the complexity of the writing progressed they had to eliminate the bookends of Jerry's nightclub stand-up routine to squeeze in all the storylines and jokes.

Jen’s dance to the theme is like Jerry’s dance when he’s making fun of Elaine’s boyfriend Tony with the perfect face. (Dan Cortese)

26:09 I really don't think Jerry and George are cut out for a Diamond Heist. 😉 31:41 Cheers, Jen. 🥃🍻 33:26 I can think of no less than five times that I was George in this scenario. On the plus side, I did manage to avoid contributing to the over-population problem, so that's a Win.👍 39:51 Noice! It's stuff like this that makes Jen arguably my favourite Solo Reactor, because I said "Ca-Caw!" about one second earlier. 🤣
