None of what I'm sharing should be taken as prescriptive as I'm merely sharing my experience. Everybody's body is so different and with diet and lifestyle especially, multiple factors are involved in determining what's best suited to each person. My best advice would be that if you are curious or interested in any particular way of eating or implementing a major lifestyle change (like routine fasting), then thoroughly research first--looking at all sides, pros AND cons--and then APPLY it to yourself; and SEE WHAT HAPPENS. I would also encourage you to seek guidance if so inclined. Included in the description box are a few resources. Conduct independent research and always think for yourself, period. But do not underestimate that there is great wisdom in the body--we have to be aware and pay close attention to our bodies' signals. Never ignore the wisdom of your own body (emphasis on YOUR body).

How does one interpret scientific research though if they have no scientific background? I totally agree that we need to get in touch with our bodies, I think it needs to be balanced with a true scientific approach, but I don't understand scientific terminology and I dont think I'm smart enough to self educate, so would I go about doing my own research or finding a trustworthy practitioner. I used to think I knew things and then came to realize I was buying into pseudoscience and i feel skeptical of most things now.

hi! I've noticed that I have a mood disorder which also has also led me to fairly severe depressive episodes. I have always thought this was due to genetics (my aunt having diagnosed depression) and my very distorted self image. Some days ago I took a blood test and found out my levels of folic acid (vitamin b9) score way below the average range of values for my age and sex. Researched online on reputable websites a bit and found out that not only a lack of folic acid has a quantity of negative effects on the human body (i.e. the fetus not being able to properly form in case of pregnancy), but can also be the cause of depression as such deficiency affects negatively the production of neurotransmitters and the general health of the neurological and nervous system. In conclusion, while my at-times precarious mental health is also to be reconnected with genetics, the lack of folic acid surely plays a big part in how I feel. This to say I completely understand you, and to suggest everyone to take blood tests from time to time to have a general overview of what is happening in your body in order to adjust your diets to suit your physiological needs. I wish everyone the best. ✨

@Jane Smith most vegetarins/vegans I know or see on youtube eat "ecological" options that were transportent thousands of kilometers from one country or continent to another...where I live avocados, tomatoes, fruits etc does not grown all year around and need to be transportated which puts much more ecologic weight on earth as locally rised and slauthered meat.

I have been practicing IF on and off for the last 7 years. Everytime I do, I notice an immediate change in my mental state, my energy level, my hunger,appetite, sugar cravings (which in turn, by not consuming any, brings me even more benefits), and menstrual cycle (I used to faint or call the emergency because the pain was too unbearable). The only thing IF never did to me was regulate my sleep that alas remains problematic. Otherwise, IF is the best thing that happened to me. I even cured 11 tears of eating disorders thanks to it.

I found your channel through your Retinoid videos. But the reason I found your channel was in my mind down to dietary issues wrecking havoc on my skin. I went 'vegan', for around 2+ months. Now, I'm a big bit of a guy. I workout like crazy and I was taking Whey protein every day for like a year with milk, and I was eating a good mixture of food groups. I thought to myself, "hmmm, maybe I should be kinder to my body" thinking that vegan is 'cleaner' and better to my body. Oh boy, I was so wrong, for me that is. I gave up meat, whey, dairy and switched to plant based alternatives. Slowly my skin started breaking out in weird places. Places I never used to get acne. My thighs, some on my chest, and even my neck. I'm positive it triggered something in me called "raynauds" as well due to the stress I was going through. My mental state went to crap, and I was lethargic and always getting dizzy when I stood up. Let's just say my immune system took one hell of a beating. Going from such a varied diet to purely plant based foods messed me up. I'm not saying it can't be done, but only that my body is not made for such a diet. Everyone is different. Just listen to your body, and you will know when things get better.

@Jane Smith I do care for animals. And how dare you assume to know what we feel and think based upon our dietary intake. Even after explaining the physical damage it did to my body, you breezed right past it. You're what I call, "a self hating human". You detest your own species, even if its in pain or has ailments. Animal abuse is horrible. Incidents of it do NOT make it the status quo. You're like the Jehovah Witness of the food chain. You're awarded a framework, its processes and logistics providing you the luxury to be vegan thanks in part to a food sector based upon meat produce. However, I must also stress that as a human being (animal) who went through horrible side effects of allowing guilt to make me avoid all animal products, that I experienced mental and physical trauma, enacted through my failure to realise that our bodies are all different. We require different forms of sustenance based upon climate, economic, and health status. It's a hard sell to children in poverty to go buy a vegan burger. But i'm sure that didn't even cross your mind, eh? My country has some of the highest quality animal welfare standards in the world, and environmental standards, with most of our country being powered by renewable energy. What you spew to others by your own judgmental finger pointing, is what I call "first world problems". Like how you assume others as lacking empathy for animals, and like how I assume you hate humans, unlike myself which is pretty fond of them. I want to see our species succeed, like making sure children around the world have access to a varied diet, INCLUDING MEAT. We all want a more friendly and clean environment. However, we won't have one unless you consider yourself a believer in Eugenics and would like all meat eaters eradicated? Sadly, you probably would which is not a surprise at all.

It's funny how we've been through similar processes. I've tried to be kind of vegetarian a long time ago, since it makes me feel bad to eat other animals, but unfortunately animal protein is a "necessary evil" to me since my health and well being worsen without it. I also tried to be ketogenic but unfortunately less carbs make me lose weight, and I'm already slim and didn't like that effect, if only I went to the gym to try go gain muscles but I don't have patience for that, instead I do yoga which I like most. I also have been doing intermittent fasting for I guess more than a decade now, I began when people (and doctors) still considered bad or dangerous not to eat 6 times a day, and I do exactly like you, 16-18h and then break the fast when I'm feeling hungry and eat as much as I like without worrying about calories, etc. As you said, as soon as we get used to it that's very freeing not having to worry about food anymore. Once in a blue moon I try 24-36h fasting to have other benefits, but again although I feel great, it makes me lose weight. By the way, because of you I've beeing implementing beef liver in my diet, which I never liked the taste, but am trying to get used to it because of its benefits. I would love if you talked about the effects you felt since consuming it, I believe its high content of pre-formed vitamin A and copper makes it one of the best foods for skin and hair. I'm the same age as yours but I am already getting lots of gray hairs on my head and beard, and many people say that copper helps with it (along with skin firmness), I hope to see some improvements and maybe have a little of your glow. :) Sorry for having written too much.

I was vegan for a few years. I got gradually worse and after a few years I got brain fog, extreme adrenal fatigue, exhaustion, sunken eyes due to collagen storages being used up, demineralized see-through teeth and cavities, inflamed gums, inflammation in head/ear area. My cognitive health declined with the brain fog and it was more difficult for me to express myself, low blood pressure, feeling cold all the time, pale yellowish greyish skin tone. I listened to similar experiences from exvegans who got better once they started to consume animal foods again. Now I eat a lot of meat, raw milk, raw eggs and I got better, I can finally think clearly without brain fog, I have finally the strength again to do things in my life which I missed so much for the last years. This week was the first time in a long time that I was able to stand up from bed without feeling like fainting and I even had energy in the morning. My face also slowly gets fuller again and more youthful. Before it was emaciated thin, with visible lack of collagen. Everyone has different vitamin stores and a different health background, thatswhy some people hold out on veganism a few years less or more. We need fat soluble vitamins from animal foods for our bodies and especially for our brains. I encourage everyone to listen to both sides of the story, that means to ex vegans as well and listen to what they have to say, to their health problems while being on veganism. Don't wait until your health falls apart. I'm still recovering from veganism.

I will highly recommend to star reading or watching videos of Rhonda Patrick, she is one of the most knowledgeable people that have so much information about longevity and human wellness. Hi Jennifer! This is a bit of a random question, I'm not sure if you've discussed it in a previous video. What does your daily water intake look like? I find myself gravitating more toward black coffee or tea, rarely reaching for "pure" water, so to speak. I'm curious as to how you manage/track how much water you drink.
@JenniferMyers
@JenniferMyers 4 жыл бұрын
I drink when I'm thirsty. I don't overdo it, though, because too much water causes imbalances in electrolytes and can really disrupt the homeostatic balance of the kidneys and cause some real heavy-duty issues (speaking from experience). I used to drink 3-4 liters a day! I no longer do that. I also eat tons of vegetables every day (at least 8 cups, often more) which provides hydration to my body. I drink one cup of black coffee in the morning, and I have 2 cups of green tea mid-morning. Besides that, I have filtered water. But I don't keep track.

Thanks for sharing your experience and view point. So true that if takes some effort to eat right and a lot of self control to not grab the wrong foods and temptation is everywhere in the stores. I don't think most people have the self control to eat right or they don't realize what that junk is doing to their body. Even once a person has a major health issue it's rarely ever blamed on a persons diet. All we can do is lead by example and hope others follow.

After trying so many diets over the years, I found OMAD, a form of Intermittent Fasting, to work best for me. The first three days or so are uncomfortable, but after that, it was smooth sailing. The smaller meals throughout the day thing didn't work for me. I always gotta have at least one big meal a day. Otherwise, I wouldn't feel satisfied. I also tried Intermittent Fasting with an eight-hour window to eat but I found myself bingeing throughout the duration. From time to time, I eat two meals in a day. I consider them my cheat days.

Your philosophy and experience with fasting is so similar to mine! Most days I only eat once and fast for 24 hours. I had years of dysregulated eating. I primarily started fasting for the purpose of autophagy and my auto-immune issues went into remission. I too now start to experience hunger at around the 20 hour mark, but depending on a multitude of factors, if I do experience hunger sooner, I will simply eat. I'm not particularly interested in forcefully starving my body and pushing through hunger (unless it's the rare occasion where I'm doing some sort of extended fast). Random question, do you get any gray hairs? Do you color your hair or will you plan on coloring your hair as you start to develop gray?

I don't count macros. My diet doesn't include refined sugar (simple carbs), processed foods, or dairy. It does include about 10-12 cups of vegetables every day, overt fats (unprocessed, whole sources), and a variety of animal foods such as eggs, fatty fish like salmon and sardines, oysters..red meat about once per week, organ meats about once a week...I don't monitor whether or not I'm in ketosis as that's not of critical importance to me, personally.

This year i put red meat back in my diet (grass fed, try to find pasture raised), and i saw a great difference. Especially when you work out and strength train, and you look up vegan protein, they are filled with led (when they are ethically sourced) and plat version of foods just dont work the same as meat versions. I cant believe how much energy i have now. right now i am having trouble with eating consistently. when i was vegan for 6 months, i became anemic for 2 years (confused as well).

I have been into follow low carb diets (such as the ketogenic diet and I am also interested in carnivore) for a long time. But I have not been able to adhere to it strictly due to a past of some ED issues, and I feel like my brain/mind "rebels" against any type of dietary restriction for that reason. But I need to do keto for physical/mental health reasons as well (keto has a profound effect on my mental health). Do you have any suggestions/input for this issue and how to not feel "restricted" so I can adhere to a ketogenic diet long term? Also, can you share the brand of olive oil vitamin D drops you use? Short-term fasting (24-hours or under) doesn't typically require supervision unless you have underlying or potentially complicating health issues. 12-13 hours is not very long (because overnight we're naturally fasting anyway). One of the biggest mistakes I see people doing is hastily entering a fasting lifestyle without amending their diet--specifically, without eliminating sugar. Because what sugar does is cause blood sugar imbalance, so if you try to fast, for example, coming off a carbohydrate-laden meal, then you are indeed going to be fatigued and extremely hungry in an uncomfortable way attempting to go 16+ hours without any food...
