Nope.. nope nope!! I am not buyin' it. You may claim to be a New Yorker but listening to you speak.. You're definitely a transplant to my city. There are just certain diphthongs that are just .... wrong. Particularly your pronunciation of "brod-way". Great video.. I am subscribing and hittin the notify keep up the good work.

I disagree completely that it's hard to find a New Yorker without that "New Yorker accent". We're all over the place!

Oh, I see the problem! Re: #13, "you can go to the boroughs" , they're all New York City! I think some of these may apply more specifically to Manhattan. *Nicely done video either way!😊

"I'm walking here!!" was completely improvised.. It was not even supposed to be in the movie. That was a real cab that jumped the green light during the scene and almost hit Dustin Hoffman who stayed in character! Now that's a New York Moment :-)

Been to NYC. People aren't really all that rude. They're just more extroverted and open about what's on their mind more. Most new yorkers I've met are actually very friendly and it's an honest and sincere kind of friendly not the fake shit you see down south or all over the west coast. I've never seen any rats but the subways are pretty smelly and disgusting in the summer. And honestly the only people who have the accent are older new yorkers.
@Jenniferobrien5 жыл бұрын
Yes all very true they’re so much nicer real nice than most places and rats are definitely more prominent at night on certain subways and accents are phasing out only really heard with older generations

Another thing is people act like the only places in New York that exist are “Bronx,Queens,Hamptons,Manhattan and Brooklyn”. Which is totally false. And it depends on where u go in NYC, if it’s dangerous or not. It’s also (I think) the most populated state in America.

The NY accent is dying but still active among the Blacks and Hispanics in the city.
@victorsotomayer84305 жыл бұрын
Yup still have mine and I'm Hispanic. Actually a lot of accents are dying out and being replaced by this throat glottal(look it up)that you hear mostly from caucasians which is really annoying. I miss accents because it brings a sense of individuality, but oh well people change with the times I guess since everybody wants to be like everyone else

About Broadway shows, how do you mean try the lotteries for a couple of days? I never bothered when I visited due to the costs. Which is a shame because I did a lot of theatre and literature during my degree. The only cockroaches I saw was when in a Subway station phoning my parents with a payphone (do those still exist?)in the UK to tell them about the emotional visit to the site of WTC in 2004.
@Jenniferobrien6 жыл бұрын
thegeneral123 yes depending on the show there are different lotteries you can show up at the theater and pay a much discounted price or even win free tickets, there are also apps to enter the lottery but there are limited tickets so it’s very hard to win! I don’t think they still exist! The subway has so many unfortunately!

The accents thing is false. Manhattan has a lot of white collar professionals hence the reason they don’t carry the accent as much. But anyone from Bk, SI, Queens, Long Island and evening Jersey - have it. I agree that we aren’t rude. The rudest people I ab was found in all of my travels are the British. Living in London was interesting and most were very rude.

Jennifer does not sound like a native NYC person or one from a family who has been there for multiple generations. The classic NYC accent is alive and well, just like the Jersey accent closest to NYC. It does get diluted by the massive amount of diversity. New Yorkers are very helpful for directions.
