From a financial standpoint, it’s hard to say whether or not replacing the valves is the right thing to do. From the viewpoint of those watching the video, most, including me, want to see that old original engine run. I like you guys. You don’t try to be slick or act cool - you are very relatable. Like most of us watching, you plow ahead whether or not it makes sense. Keep doing what you’ve been doing. It works. You work well together and you’re interesting to watch. Love all of those old trucks you found in that field.

I would of pulled the engine out after finding out that the motor was seized up. Much easier to work on. But that's just me.

As an owner of a 70’ International 1100 I’m all for getting those valves and making this ol girl run again! Internationals are special trucks you see Ford’s and Chevys all over marketplace but these trucks are much more rare and have a lot of character. I love how original this truck is the period respray is so awesome and how it wore in! I’d get it running reliably and leave it in its work clothes as a survivor!

You need to get you a flat head valve spring compressor and keeper installer, it makes it so much easier. Also, the guides go in from the top. They make a valve seat grinding tool that uses the guide to keep the stone centered and 90 degrees to the block. I've replaced guides and ground the seats with the engine in place. It's just a matter of finding the right tools which do exist. Great job getting it broken loose. I was having my doubts!

When you apply heat, get it hot and melt some sealing wax on top of bolt and bolt or nut will come off so much easier and normally not break off. Sealing wax works really good everytime!

It's a very simple engine, you've got it out already, take it apart and clean everything right. It doesn't have a timing chain, it's gear to gear with the cam running backwards. At minimum, pull the pan and clean it out, and clean off the rather unique strainer.

There is a valve spring tool for flat head engine's. If you are going to be working on these flat head engine's you might want to get that tool. International trucks of that age are really hard to come by.

That Trucks brother lived with us for years. He was called Red Fred and he was also green. 6 volt system, converted to 12 so gauges didn't work. He was sold so dad could do a different project not half as good looking as ol Red Fred. As pretty as he was, the neighbors didn't appreciate him. Then we had the blue moose and the grey goose. traded Fred for two newer models easier to get parts for. I told dad that was dumb, but he was more practical.
