One thing you missed - I like to apply conditioner to the sole too. A dry sole will wear out faster and need replacing sooner than a conditioned sole. Also dry soles can stretch, get lumps or crack :)

I use this stuff on my ostrich and my bison boots. I just picked up a pair of dark brown Tony Lama caiman tail boots for $100. They are gorgeous. The leather is near perfect. They have been re-soled. It's a good resole, but not the best. I conditioned them and they looked even better. I like to condition boots every 4-6 weeks depending on how often I wear them.

Thanks so much ! Bought my first pair of ‘real’ cowboys boots and i must say~ i had no idea of the upkeep!! I had the nerve to buy a pair of python-skin $400 pair ! Didn’t come in a box and it was recommended that i got the conditioner before i left the store. The first one you mentioned is the one i have. Sadly i was told to buff mine. Common sense should’ve told me, perhaps to go the way of the scales but i just took the lady’s word for it, being she worked at the store and seemed seasoned. I hope mine turn out okay ~ my scales had stated to turn up a tad. I’ve condition with my hands, and In a downward position while watching your video. Thank you !!!!

I've got a pair of snake skin boots that went into storage, by mistake, when I shipped overseas for six years. The scales held up well but the boots shrunk just enough to make them really uncomfortable to wear. I'm down to the "soak them in water and wearing them until they dry" method of stretching them to fit. Will this method cause any damage to the scales? I really have enjoyed your posts, so much so that I won't by another pair of boots without referring to your videos.
@JeremiahCraig2 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy. I would not recommend soaking your boots in water to stretch them out. You may not ruin the scales but depending on who made your boots you might ruin other parts of the boot and never be able to get them repaired if repairs are necessary. What I've done before to stretch out boots a little was mix 50/50 isopropyl alcohol and water. Then I take a rag and dip it into the mixture and rub it on the inside of the boot where I need the most stretching. I try to do a little at a time and not saturate it but then I put them on and wear them all day and repeat as necessary. This helps soften up the leather and stretch more than it would without it.

I'm 16 and recently got my first pair of boots for Christmas, I got some Caiman belly boots and I fell in love with them, I wear them pretty well everyday, but I don't do to much harsh activity with them on, I work in a grocery store and occasionally walk across the parking lot to a nearby fast food place to get food, would I need to condition more often then most due to the use or would every 1-2 months or so be fine? Is there such a thing as overconditioning? I live in mid Alabama so winter is really dry, does the cold negatively affect the skin from your personal experience or is the just the wet and damp weather?
