For me, the best feature of this keyboard (besides the 76 keys and good quality sounds) is the ability to turn on/off various parts of the accompaniment STYLE. Until recently it was an all-or-nothing and many times you don't actually need the entire accompaniment. Korg recently brought this feature to their midrange arrangers (with the EK-50) and I'm glad that Yamaha is catching up with them.
@Mypars..2 жыл бұрын
I thought Yamaha e463 or plus.. had that feature??
@Instrumental-Covers2 жыл бұрын
You are wrong that "until recently it was an all-or-nothing" regarding the ability to turn on/off various parts of the accompaniment style. In fact, this feature has been present in the PSR-E463, PSR-E453, PSR-E443, and PSR-E433. The PSR-E433 was released in July 2012. So, this feature has been present in the PSR-E400 series for at least 10 years.

I have PSR-EW310, lot's of fun experimenting with different sounds. It is also one heck of a terrific value. Though the PSR-E425 offers some really nice compelling features, the price IMHO, puts it in another category of keyboards with other options. However if it fits your needs, it is no question a great keyboard. Love the Mic input feature. Always good to get Jeremy's honest advice and review.😀

I own Yamaha DGX305, predecessor of this model edited 15years ago, and also agree that it offers a lot even if you are the professional. Although I have several other keyboards, I use it very often for both recording and live gigs because of nice sounding tones that are still rich and persuasive, when used cleverly, of course. That instrument is made to meet huge amount of demands for different artistic expectations. Some sounds are nice prepared for sophisticated performance using advantage of well balanced dynamic keybed. This model you analyse today is advanced in arrangements and abilities of sound control, but usage pattern is still approximately the same.

Great video Jeremy (as always!) Would love to see a comparison of the E473/EW425 vs. the SX600 - is the SX600 worth THREE TIMES the price of the PSR-E473? Or more than twice the price of the EW425 (which has more keys). I have an EW425 and absolutely love it!

@kosomolsk Жыл бұрын
@@Zaudi_Jonas UExcept for the 76-keys and being the (AFAIK) most powerful speakers on a keyboard / piano that can be battery powered, the SX600 specwise is much stronger than the EW425, includng the speakers (now 30W instead of 24W). The EW425's 820 voices are over half XGlite, while the SX600 has 850 voices + 480 XGlite, plus the panel voices are often of higher grades (Live! Cool! Sweet! Super Articulation) and based on the PSR-E373 I have, the difference between a ! voice and Regular counterpart is audible even to a noob (me). It has more DSPs (DSP1 on EW425 only powers the Main Voice, and the DSP2 only has about 10 effects). You even get more scales, the pitch wheel can be set to affect some layers and not the others .. etc. The only thing is how much an actual user will miss those missing features.
@jjacob251012 жыл бұрын
Awesome video, Jeremy! Doing a demo of the Yamaha PSR-EW425 while wearing a Roland T Shirt. 😀 I find that hilarious, but Roland, Yamaha & Casio are all great right now. I wholeheartedly agree, this is the absolute best digital piano/keyboard for the price, or even much more expensive alternative to a full 88 note digital piano if you don't need or prefer full weighted keys. The only 76 note keyboard with better action is the Roland Fantom-07 workstation keyboard, but it is about 4 times the price. And it's worth it, but we are talking about $500 and under. Like I mentioned previously the 61 note PSR-E473 edges out the Casio CT-S500 in sound, and some features, like being able to turn separate rhythm track parts off/onn. But now that it has the pitch bend wheel, and both Yamaha and Casio in their latest keyboards have the upgrade to ¼" stereo audio output jacks. A very welcome addition for gigging/church musicians and music composers and creators. The CT-S500 is more compact for portability on the go, but if you are going to get just one keyboard, I recommend the PSR-E473 instead, if you don't need the more compact format, unless you want the voice synthesizer functions of the CT-S1000V. I plan on getting the latter next for that reason, and get the new Apple iPad Air with the M1 chip and 256G storage for the keyboard music functions and other uses. Getting the Boss Micro BR BR80 portable multitrack digital audio recorder can suit my purposes for DAW and backing track creation until I can get an Apple MacBook Air 512G. Those are a lot less expensive than for the same performance for what I need. I will probably also get a Zoom H4n Pro and a versatile all purpose recorder. Either can plug in to the audio input jack on all of these keyboards. But the PSR-EW425 is too good not to get for my personal church keyboard to complement our Casio CDP-S350. I can leave it there as my place does not have much space. And I don't have to transport it every Sunday. Down the road, I can finally get the Fantom-06 instead for home, that would be the perfect compliment for my PSS-A50, JD-XI Go:Keys and other gear. And I can akways bring the CT-S1000V or Fantom-06 to church when I want. My Go:Keys is ideal for on the go playing if I don't need the fast octave and voice changes, but just playing or remote music creation with the Micro BR recorder. All the available gear at affordable prices gives uscall so many choices and options to suit our needs and wants. Each keyboard and other gear have their unique features and purposes. I couldn't be happier, unless and until things I perceive to get better after dealingvwithbthe current problems can provide the access and ability for more resources to get more equipment fir us all to enjoy music, which in one of the best universal forms of therapy for ourselves and others.

I have been a long time fan of Jeremy's. Following this review, I decided to go with the EW425 as a replacement keyboard/synth. Since owning it, I have been sorely disappointed in the build quality. I admit the sounds are great, but in comparing it to the much cheaper and older Yamaha YPG-235 which I own, I did not find any noticeable difference in the amplifier/speakers. Also the key's on the EW425 are extremely light and cheap, much more so than on the YPG-235. I also found the on/off button to be very cheap and someone unreliable. It would not have cost an extra $.25 US to have used a better volume knob preferably with a rubberized coating. There are a huge number of high quality presets and combos. Unfortunately the interface is not as intuitive as some other keyboards. I believe the guts are a good foundation and with a little extra effort and for about an additional $15 in manufacturing cost, this could be a killer option.

Hi Jerryme I have recently ordered the Yamaha PSR EW425 in India and I got it directly from the Yamaha company online store @ 27000 INR (341 USD APPROX) this is my first keyboard and before this I have never learnt to play systematically however I can play tunes that I hear. Was this a good buying decision and is there any help that I can get from you for learning piano through this keyboard
@GaryMCurran2 жыл бұрын
I'm kind of torn. Currently, I have an aging Korg PA800, and the PSR-EW-425 will never be a replacement for that keyboard. But, I am looking for something a little more portable that I can take to our fellowships and play there. For a price difference of about $200USD, I'm contemplating the EW-425 or the Medeli AKX-10. One of the things I really want to be able to do is use Band In A Box to be able to send MIDI backing tracks to either keyboard, but I also would want an option of sending the audio data from BIAB to the speaker setup, and the EW-425, with the Aux input, offers that, but the Medeli also offers audio input, in fact, two 1/4" mono inputs, which means I'll need to get a special cable to go from 1/8" stereo to two 1/4" mono, but not a real issue. I like the 76 keys of the EW-425, but I never learned to read bass clef or play left-handed, only chords. Either device will suffice for that, but if I were looking for something inexpensive to start learning to fully play piano, reading and playing both clefs, the EW-425 would be my current choice. Now all I want to know is when is Korg going to release the PA5X-76? :)

Thanks Jeremy you are tireless and so usefull. Thanks to your detailed videos I bought a DGX 670 after lots of hesitation with the EW 425. I didnt want 88 keys, and a long bulky box, prefered 76, which is more than enough to my views, but the DGX arrangements are more alive and the style and sound editing is way richer. I wish I could have ordered from your links but in Canada, it meant going to Amazon and I preferred benefiting a local shop. But you deserve credits and I ll try order some stuff from your other links. I have Korg PA300 which is great if very tricky to fine tune, but quite astounding in its detailed editing, its really more complete as an arranger than Yamaha, so for some sounds, Korg is better, while for others, Yamaha is better, I do find sometimes Yamaha sounds a bit too.... perfect... almost cold, perhaps studio like is the word. Its a matter of taste. There is room for both Korg and Yamaha, and I hope that Casio is going to raise the bar sometime with the successor to the PX 560

I'm probably the first one expressing disappointment with this latest PSR EW. Sure this is a great portable keyboard overall, but I am frustrated by a couple of stock voices. They're almost like the first Ensoniq, chinzy sub 12khz low bit rate samples. Instead of the convenience of using one keyboard with built in speakers, I left the new EW home for the concert gig and dusted off a 30 year old Midi controller & 1990s rack mounted Fantom along with a powered speaker. Heavier pieces of older gear for sure but in an emergency, I'll use what is required to play my parts confidentiality for a concert audience. I suppose I'm picky or spoiled or an unnecessary perfectionist. Yeah, along with the standard keyboard instruments for western culture, the 425's Grand Piano is fabulous, and if all I performed was jazz, rock, blues, the pop & sophomoric tecno rhyme rap mucilage, I wouldn't have cared. But two instrument sounds I depend on in my Celtic music concert gigs and Iona evensong services are horribly thin compared to much older gear. Acoustic or Upright Bass isn't anywhere as good right out of the box, and Harp 125 is terrible. I hoped this board was the best replacement for my Casio WK7600. No doubt it's got potential. Honestly I don't care about auto accompaniment and arpeggio stuff. Sequencing maybe, but such basic instrument voices like those I mentioned should be as excellent as that Grand Piano, right out of the box and ready to go. Compare the 425s Upright Bass (aka Acoustic Bass) with the two in the WK,( from the guitar bank and general midi section.) Compare the 425's harp 125 with the WK's harp in the string banks and the Chinese Harp in "Others". The WKs are damn near as plump as the Fantom series. I just reviewed them all If any experienced tweakers out there can suggest whatever parameter alterations to thicken these two, I thank you in advance Tweaking the parameters to get a thicker and more realistic sound was rarely if not needed on the legacy gear. Come on Yamaha. It's 2022

Can't agree more. It still have many archaic shitty presets that's been originated from vintage PSRs. Even the so called "new" presets ones were heavily compressed to make it more ugly sounding. The articulation is controlled by the button which is supposed to trigger by velocity. I don't know why they are calling this keyboard an upgrade. Sure it has better piano sounds, but it should have better other sounds also.

Any thoughts PSR-EW425 vs Korg EK50L … 76 keys is nice to have but main thing interested in is sound quality through the built in speakers. Esp piano sound. Any thoughts ?

Thanks for the review, Jeremy. Can you please advise if the 425 has the ability to be attached to a Liquid Stands with safety straps? I can't find anything in the user guide about it. Thanks in advance.

Hi Jeremy I love all your videos. May I ask are you using a sustain petal with this keyboard?? I just received mine thinking there was a sustain button option, but the only way I know how to make it sustain is going to function M Release and raising numbers…. But then sound vibrates… With that being said, I have to return it , two shipping companies were very ruff, box damaged twice & now keys dont sound right. All the piano sounds are very tingy ( like its always on bright piano setting)…. and lower keys distort … (Didn’t lower octave) Not rich sounding at all. Gave me headache lol. I’ve tried control knobs, every button/setting to change the sound to make any piano options sound good but something is off… But before I decide to have them send me another one I wanted to know about the sustain option if there is one without buying a pedal… Im not a beginner, but the price was right.. Sound wrong…😂

What do you think of this keyboard vw the features of the korg xe20? I know korg has weighted keys, but what which one would you prefer if you were to get a keyboard in This price range. Thanks!

Hi Jeremy, can i seek your assitance to recommend a 76 key keyboard for beginner. I have watched many of your video's and considering PSR-EW310 vs PSR EW425. I am a 42 yr old adult wt zero music experience. I would like to learn to play pop keyboard & 2-3 years time learn to play piano. I am searching for a mid level keyboard to begin with so i can use the same keyboard later to learn to play piano in 2-3 years time. Can you pls advise which keyboard I should consider. Thank you

I am wondering How does this compare to a PSR910? been thinking about upgrading my 910 since I have fixed it so many times already and I think I have outgrown it.

I am confused, should I go for this or korg liano L1. Does this Yamaha has built in sound interface and works as midi similar to korg?

Hi! Congratulate, great and very useful video! ;) To this instrument it is possible to upload more styles (rithms) to his built in memory (via USB stick)? I plan to buy a good instrument for my church, but I want an instrument which is capable to extend the built in styles with specific hungarian and worship-style rithms. I found two type of keyboards, which are not expensive: Roland BK 3 Arranger B and Yamaha PSR-EW425 . Which is better? At home I have two Yamaha keyboards (an old PSR 195 and a DGX 640 digital piano). I'm very satisfied with both! Thanks your help! Laci
