Glad to know we women like to fish too, not just a sport for men! Thank you for the detailed demonstration on what a jerk bait looks like and how to use it. I’m still learning on what the bait is and how to use it, such as a crank bait, a spinner bait, etc…by the way, I’m afraid of live worm. Thanks again.

Lake Michigan huh? I heard a lot of ppl been finding smallmouth there. I used to be a Milwaukee resident years ago but lived in Florida a really long time so I chase largemouth. Anyway what would you put onna standard baitcaster? I know what I like to use but I want your opinion. For everything I use 65 lb braid. For leader I use anything from 20 to 40 lb suffix florocarbon with an FG knot. Break control or no breaks at all I never loose distance even tho I use heavy braid. So again what would you personally line up a baitcaster for this application?

Jerkbaits are awesome, can have great results! Edit: To be fair I never once had used one but the ones that suspend. Let me share a story. I went to Las Vegas this year in May for my birthday. I fish many times a week so it was inevitable that I would pay Lake Mead a visit for a striper. I brought my saltwater lures that I use here in Texas, but to no avail I couldn't get a bite. Twenty minutes later after moving spots, I made a cast into a deep drop, and snagged onto something. I got it loose and what came in was perhaps one of the most realistic lures I've ever seen! I don't believe in luck but this was luck, because I had only 15 minutes of time left and nothing to lose. I switched over to this new lure( Berkley deep diving Jerkbait) and some casts later, I would catch my very first striper! I plan to go back again soon and look forward to trying it again and taking in a bigger fish. Tight lines 👍

Was that a drum? Also I never heard of using a spinning rod for jerkbaits. Is that a preference thing or is it really more effective than using a casting rod?
@AverieRose2 жыл бұрын
Yes it was… I catch lots of freshwater drum when smallie fishing. It’s just a preference for me because I can cast farther and my accurately with a spinning rod.

Awesome video, it always scares me when people hold the fish like that with all those trebles right by the hand, I’ve gotten a couple deep hooks in my hand, and when it goes in, and the fish still is stuck to the lure, it is NOT a fun experience.

Use that advice in the saltwater and you'll catch fish too. I trolled similar lures in Costa Rica and caught dozens of tuna, mahi mahi, mackerel and jacks. Growing up in Florida I caught snook and other fish on that type of lure. Just bump up the leader to 25 lb for inshore and bigger for offshore.
