I was a big fan of Jerrod Carmichael’s comedy but not so much anymore, and it’s not because he’s gay. I’ve seen all the episodes of his reality show to date. It took me about 2 weeks to even finish watching episode 2 because him being a thot was annoying but episode 3 is where he really lost me because of how much of an asshole he is or was to his closest friends. Dude missed his homie’s wedding on purpose because he wanted a hot dog and wasn’t fucking with the dress code for whatever reason even though he was the best man. But I think the most fucked up thing he did that episode was he had his female best friend stay in his crib because she wanted to try to make it as an actress in New York, and Jerrod got tired of her being in his house - though given some of the shit she was doing, I understood that. What I didn’t understand was he got her an apartment at some point and his friend thought he bought it for her, but later on Jerrod tells his boyfriend that he only paid one month’s rent on it and never told her and he just laughed, then started ghosting her for a while. I thought that was fucked up.

Those were very good examples you gave to follow up with the asshole point as I haven't watched the show but it really paints the picture and I used to be a big fan of Jerrod early on as well. You don't really know people behind closed doors, but that this is front and center is even worse.

As a Chappelle fan, I agree with him saying that Dave is too brilliant to beat a dead horse, but that's not what JC originally said. Then he doubled down and called Chappelle an egomaniac and shared their private conversation. There's nothing wrong with feeling some kind of way about Chappelle's last few specials, but dude could have called Dave from the get go instead of trying to blast him in the media for clout. I was a big Carmichael fan. His HBO special 8 is probably my favorite special in the last 10 years or so, but dude has become so annoying and insufferable since he came out. It one thing to hide your true sexuality, but I had no idea he was hiding this new personality.

It didn’t sound like an apology so Joe’s apology stipulations are misplaced. Jerrod clarified that his statements were taken out of context by the media and he regretted making them publicly. He said what he said, but you heard what you heard. A lot of people thought the Dave special lacked diversity, but they may also agree with Dave’s perspective on the topics he did discuss. Add fandom to that and Dave gets 4-stars. Jerrod speaks about it (after Katt Williams has taken to denouncing Jerrod) and the aforementioned demographic of Dave fans give him a 1-star rating. The deck was stacked against him from the beginning but in reality, had he kept his opinion to himself he would have been agreement with most viewers of Daves last special.
