Mr. Lewis was a total egomaniacal, two faced, greedy ( left nothing to his children) , lying ( lied about never meeting Joan Rivers when he appeared on her show) philandering, abusive ( admitted to beating his son Gary until he put welts on the poor kids ass) , nasty no good son of a bitch. Hope he rots in hell. Shalom aleichem and lchaim. FYI: Demanding shekels based on a threat of disparaging another's reputation could be construed as extortion.

Us kids, when I was growing up, all loved Jerry Lewis. Every movie, and watching the Telethon year after year. Imagine only like three TV networks, and Jerry took up one whole network out if 3, for two whole days. I can see him clearly now, as an adult, and see and hear all the quirks and issues. But he still has that childhood "awe" I used to have, for like the first two minutes of this interview. Seeing him as a complicated man, but deep down, I think he tried his whole life to be a good man. We all wanted to be with Jerry during the Telethon, and be one of "his Kids".

That was a good interview, as relaxed as I've seen Jerry Lewis. Probably helped that the interviewer was low key. Not an easy person to question I'd imagine - he often didn't seem to trust what people might ask and could come across as defensive, abrasive or bored of the same questions as he grew older. I especially liked his reaction when he was asked about his hair 20 mins in... great laughter lines there. Finding fame at such a young age must have been hard to adjust to and it's a shame he became such a complicated and apparently controlling perfectionist. There's a sense of pathos about him.. maybe life could never quite match up to the thrill of his years with Dean. They must really have been something to see live. Despite how he was known to be difficult at times, I find myself mesmerized by this charismatic man. Handsome, prolific and creative. My favorite film 'The Nutty Professor' still stands the test of time. He was one in a million and give him his dues, he never gave up even though his health and consequent drugs took their toll. Doubt we'll see the likes of him again. A genius in his field. Very sad that he is no more. I suppose the interviewer would be middle aged himself by now. I wonder how he himself felt about Jerry?

Jerry was all out, all the time. If he succeeded, if he messed up, he did it big and moved on. Egomaniac? No, I don't think so. I don't think an entertainer whose original act consisted of miming to records (of course, we all know of his amazing filmmaking talents, but it was a humble beginning, for sure) can last 80+ years in the business without having a keen sense of who he is and what he can do. He was the best judge of his own talents, weaknesses, and strengths. He was intelligent and smart. That's not being egotistical, in my opinion. I love all his interviews because, as much as he made me laugh all my life, I could listen to him talk into infinity. He was sexy and handsome, goofy (which made him approachable and therefore even more appealing), so very talented and SO intelligent, such an engaging conversationalist. As far as his own kids from his 1st marriage, the whole estrangement thing and he didn't leave them anything, etc., we don't know everything. Family dynamics can be very complicated when you're NOT famous with the whole world looking at you; imagine what it could be like when your life gets put under constant scrutiny. I'm just saying we don't know the real truth of all of that, so it's not wise to judge. Anyway, I'll always love, adore, and admire this man. What he did for MDA and people with dystrophic diseases is almost incalculable. He cared, truly, with all his heart. Love you, Jerry. ❤ Rest in peace, dear man.

So today I am so thankful to see this video, as seeing is believing, and wow! what a man of compassion with real heart, I also watched a video w/Jerry on the Dick Cavett you could see his sincerity come to life also in watching that. At 39:55 Bert (the interviewer) refers to an article coming out in Parade magazine on Sept. 3rd, which would have to be 1989. The link in the description, takes us to a documentary that's over 2 hrs long that seems to be shot during the same time frame. In that documentary, they are preparing for the Sept 1989 Telethon, leading to the conclusion that this interview was taken just before the Sept 1989 Telethon. So, Jerry would have been about 62 yrs old.

He did Joanie! He was very attached to his kids! His kids loved him as well! He helped them a lot in the past! I believe that when Jerry fell, got seriously hurt, and addicted to percodans, something went really wrong! Jerry tried to take his own life at a certain point! I'm not sure what happened between them. They really loved one another. Jerry probably felt also lonely, unloved, or who knows...However, things happen in life and families. We really do not know what their situation was! We don't even know if he left them something that wasn't in the will! His kids got money on their own and Gary had a huge career for a very long time! Once his son Chris said in an interview that many things the press and the people say about his dad are untrue! He said a lot of stuff about the will is untrue as well! Plus Jer had another family for 36 years! I also believe that a certain point in their life kids should do something for their parents and not the other way around. Some of his kids weren't very good to Jerry as well or to one another.I'm just saying that judging Jerry's decision is wrong because we do not know pretty much anything! I think that Jer was a wonderful performer and an amazing human being! He gave joy and laughter to the world and helped kids in need! That's all we should care about really! :) :)

Basically Jerry Lewis was a very talented comic when it came to being ON SCREEN. However, when he was OFF SCREEN his personality was terrible. There is a network tv program called "Inside Edition" that sent reporters out and actually interviewed his REAL daughter who is living on the streets and she is homeless. Please Look it up everyone, her name is Susan Lewis and the tv program was called "Inside Edition" He treated her like shit and allowed her to live on the streets. Look it up everyone, her name is Susan Lewis. Also, his sons say he mentally abused them.

Eliot Drake....that’s your opinion they are the ‘worst films’...many of his films are comedy classics. and what you call ego could be a reaction to having to defend himself against relentless criticism and/or being overlooked or ignored by film reviewers who at the time thought a person directing/writing/producing their own material was the result of an ego out of control. he paved the way so no-one today would say such an uninformed opinion about creative artist wearing multiple hats.....

Jerry was a complex person - he was very insecure about his education or lack of it and as a result he was often very arrogant - but if he trusted you, then he would relax and could be a nice guy. But too often he was not relaxed and came off as a nasty guy.
