10:50 That’s not true about not being able to change the keyboard brightness in Control Center (CC). The keyboard brightness (KB) function can easily be added to CC. Just go to CC in Settings, scroll down to More Controls, and add the KB function to Included Controls. IMO, it’s not much of an inconvenience to access KB via CC. Also, adjusting KB isn’t something one should need to do too often, I would think.

Something about that stand just seemed like it would wear out rather fast considering how it felt. You're the ONLY reviewer I was able to find that directly talked about it. So glad to get some information on someone that's used it for years and can report back. Thank you for that! And, for the record, both the Folio and Combo Touch cases are very good and solid. =)

I have the Combo Touch for both an 11” M1 iPad Pro and 12.9” M1 iPad Pro. The case provides great protection for the back and edges of the iPad, plus it still works well with screen protectors. The keyboard is good, but sometimes it randomly disconnects. It works again if I detach and reattach the keyboard. In three years of ownership the cases have faired well. On the 12.9” case I’ve noticed the area around the speaker grill became soft and deforms slightly on both sides. Doesn’t interfere with using the iPad, just a sign the case will eventually need to be replaced.

On way to address your concern about dirt getting into the space around the track pad is to go into Setting> General>TrackPad and turn on “Tap to Click” then you don’t have to push down at all. I’ve had a Combo Touch on my M2 Pro since it was released and it still works flawlessly to this day. Also to address the tight fit around the USB C port you could carefully trim as needed. Great comparison review, I do love what the Magic Keyboard offers, but even though the Combo Touch is no Otterbox when it comes to protection, it’s way better than nothing.

Combo Touch Advantages: 1. Provides complete protection for the iPad with a casing that covers its sides. 2. Flexible usage, can be separated from the keyboard for various usage modes like tablet or tent mode. 3. Adjustable kickstand for different viewing angles. 4. Lighter weight compared to the Magic Keyboard. 5. Larger trackpad provides more space for gestures and movements. 6. More affordable price compared to the Magic Keyboard. Combo Touch Disadvantages: 1. Takes up more space on the desk compared to the Magic Keyboard. 2. Stability when used on the lap is less optimal, especially if there is a slope on the thighs. = Magic Keyboard Advantages: 1. Sturdy design with aluminum construction provides a premium feel. 2. Provides a laptop-like user experience with good lappability. 3. Adjustable to various viewing angles, including a low angle for watching videos in bed. 4. Passthrough charging through the hinge allows for charging while connected to additional devices. 5. Trackpad offers more responsive clicking experience. Magic Keyboard Disadvantages: 1. Lack of side protection for the iPad, making it vulnerable to impacts or scratches. 2. Heavier compared to the Combo Touch. 3. Higher price point. 4. Excellent video and information! I was looking for something on the new Logitech case. I have the new 13” iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard. It replaced my 12.9 M1 iPad Pro. I bought both the Magic Keyboard and the Logitech keyboard for the M1. I used the Logitech for awhile and loved the extra protection, but ultimately I switched back to the Magic Keyboard because you can pick up the iPad and keyboard and carry it (while it’s open) around in one hand like a laptop. You don’t have to close it to move it or use two hands. That was a bigger deal to me than I expected. If I hadn’t gotten used to using the Magic Keyboard first, I’m sure I wouldn’t have noticed. The other thing is the extra port. That’s handy not just if the iPad’s port is being used, but also if the charger to plug into is on the opposite side of the iPad. As for extra protection, MOFT makes a great snap on case for the iPad Pro. You snap the iPad into the case and it magnetically sticks on the Magic Keyboard (as does the iPad without) and it docks the Apple Pencil too (while still allowing it to charge). You can also get a magnetic stand for the case so you can have the iPad stand alone similar to the Logitech case.

The sides protection with logitech is extremely important, if the iPad falls while attached to the keyboard either open or closed, the tendency to fall on the side is 100% which has > 90% chance of breaking the screen (even with screen protector) basically what happens is the iPad falls on one of the 2 top angles & bends the frame inside which strains the screen and breaks it, when that happens in a tandem OLED display that’s gonna be painful
@dplj44284 ай бұрын
12:48 USB ports on Apple Magic Keyboard: side for data, but power only at the one on its hinge. 15:33 Logitech combo is a two-piece: detachable keyboard and the flat back. The two pieces are held together along the keyboard's magnetic strip. On the back of the iPad, there are those 3 little dots. I have no idea why, but they are described as "pogo". Anyway, both the Apple and Logitech match these to where the iPad rests. // Separating the keyboard from Logitech combination interrupts the connection to the pogos: No juice to keyboard, no talk between iPad and keyboard. QUESTION: In olden days, were the connectors located on the side of iPads? In what year and on which iPad model? Were they always those pogo thingies?

I use my iPad Pro mostly while reclining on the couch or in bed, and a lot of that time I’m drawing/painting/sketching. The Combo Touch is far and away the better solution for me for this use case. The Magic Keyboard just isn’t stable in bed for me and often I can’t get the angles right for comfortable drawing. The Combo Touch keyboard folding back under the stand to create a flat surface is actually perfect for this use case and provides a stable surface for use in bed. Feels like a happy accident but it makes the Combo Touch basically perfect. I would buy this case just for this design even if I never wanted the keyboard or trackpad. It’s slightly less convenient to type on the Combo Touch in bed, but easily doable and I’m using it to write this post with zero issues at the moment. The ability to remove the keyboard when I just want to carry the iPad around the house to watch a KZbin video in the kitchen or dining room is pretty great, especially as an upgrade from the 2021 Combo Touch which was MUCH bulkier and didn’t have the detachable keyboard.
@chrispease70577 ай бұрын
Your post was helpful! I’m basically going to use it the same way you’re using it. I actually just bought both the Logitech Combo and Magic Keyboard (iPad Pro 13”) to compare them. The protection was a priority for me and didn’t want to worry about damage or dropping it while carrying it around the house/using it while traveling/laying in the bed. The Magic Keyboard is very nice but the Logitech’s features/versatility for my situation is working out perfect. I even thought about keeping both, but I know after the “newness” wore off, I’d be using the Logitech. I’m most likely returning the Magic Keyboard this week.

Thanks for the great review and comparing the two... One concern I always have is neither of these tend to "securely" store the Pencil. Some cases (keyboard case combinations also) either don't have a pencil storage at all, or they try to use an elastic or rubber "loop" on the outside of the case that gets weak over time. Apple pushes their new Pencil Pro, so they should get on board and have their new Magic Keyboard securely (internally) store the Pencil.

I got both the Apple Magic Keyboard and the Combo Touch for the iPad M4 13”. Previously I’ve owned the Logitech keyboard cases but thought I’d try the Apple case for comparison. What I miss with this Logitech case compared to my last Slim Folio Pro is that it does not have a back flap that contains a slot to hold the pencil, a flap that folds over and attaches by magnet to the front when you close it. So I was able to easily bring my pencil with me, it sat safely inside the pouch in the flap where it was less likely to get lost vs if it was only sitting on the magnet on the top. With this new Combo Touch I would have to carry the pencil around with me which is less convenient. But the Apple Magic Keyboard has nowhere to store the pencil either. I like typing on both keyboards, think the Apple Magic Keyboard is a bit better. I find the Combo Touch’s cursor moves sometimes away from where I am typing to a random spot in a paragraph above. And issues with it deleting some text as I type it. Still have not figured out why that is happening and neither has Logitech. Looking like I have a defective Combo Touch and will have to exchange it. I found the Apple Magic Keyboard to be very top heavy. When sitting on anything but a hard surface it falls backwards if the screen is at an angle. Though do like its viewing angles. But Combo Touch’s viewing angle are fine too. In the end, the #1 reason I chose the Combo Touch is its hinge allows me to fold the keyboard not only forward to cover the screen but also back, so I can view the screen when not using the keyboard AND my iPad is still protected on the sides and back. I take my iPad everywhere, shopping, the gym, when traveling, etc so this is important. The Apple Magic Keyboard is good if you are mostly using it when at home but not if you are on the go. And adding ~25% to the Combo Touch’s price to buy the Apple Magic Keyboard makes it $$$. I asked the Apple people why their Magic Keyboard case does not have sides to hold and protect it… and was told it was not necessary since they have Apple Care. Yeah maybe but that is a paid service. Hmmm. Recurring revenue or designed-in obsolescence …

Good comparison, but I'm surprised that there was no mention of the warping rubber on the old Combo Touch around the speaker grills and corners. This was a common complaint on older versions and not sure if the new versions of the case will do the same thing.

Great video Jerry! I especially loved learning about the tent mode ‘hack’ , this is perfect for lap use or when you don’t want to detach the keyboard. Also, I do have the gaps as well around the edges when pressing down on the trackpad on the Logitech. I liked your tip with enabling Tap to Click in settings to prevent junk from getting in there.

You can actually change the backlit keyboard on the magic keyboard in control center.

Let me ask you this Costco has the Magic Keyboard on sale for $275 and that’s for the 13 inch iPad Pro M4 at the price point would you recommend the Magic over the Logitech combo
@skepticsr_us2 ай бұрын
I have the Logitech with the 11 inch iPad Pro. Two issues: I take a lot of screenshots and when I use it without the keyboard (which has a shortcut), holding the necessary buttons in the top right hand corner (when held vertically) is really tricky. Also, the rubber around the speakers and at the bottom of the screen keeps growing.

What is your take on closing the keyboard cases over time? would the metal of the Apple Magic keyboard cause issues in the future against the glass? would the combo touch be a better bet over time? also if you have a glass or thicker screen protector, would have been an issue with opening and closing the case over time?

Correct, but most apps in iOS or iPadOS do not respond to an escape key.

You said older iPads can’t be used for this case, however Logitech website states that it’s compatible with IPad Pro 11-inch (1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th generation) i am a bit confused now. Can you please reply if its compatible with older iPad Pro versions? Thank you for the Video

You have to buy the case specific for your iPad version. They have separate cases for m1, m2, m4, air, pro, etc

I presently use the Logitech and had to replace it twice for issues with the keys but Logitech did it free of charge. Updates for the keypad are not straightforward either..🤷🏻♂

As someone coming from an iPad with the Logitech keyboard to a M4 iPad with the Magic Keyboard, i still don’t know what I’d use the ESC key for, it doesn’t function as a back button. Any help greatly appreciated.

I just got it on eBay open box item for $90. The case was tight. i used a hair dryer gently and soften the rubber. it slipped pretty easy. The Logitech combo case protect the iPad and keyboard is on par the Apple case also you save a lot money.

Quick question for you? I see you have an older Logitech Combo Touch Case as well, do you have an issue with where the speaker opening is at it started to bulge out? All four of my speaker cut outs on the case have bulged out and I’m not to sure if it a known issue or it just happened with mines.

Yep, same on this one. I thought my daughter was pulling at it. My wife’s iPad Air 4, I don’t recall having the issue.

The problem that I have with both the Apple and Logitech keyboards is as follows: Due to a “lazy” left thumb it sometimes touches the trackpad and activates the pointer like a mouse move. Sometimes this even makes the app switch to another open app in the background. When typing rapidly (like I do @85wpm), the pointer goes off the screen. When using my Mac, I can disable the Mac trackpad when I am using either an external TP or mouse. This cannot be done with either the Magi KB or the Logi KB. I have complained to Apple and Logitech about this many times but it seems to always falling on deaf ears. What do you think? Greg from Rio de Janeiro

Could you possibly place an extremely flat board over the trackpad while typing? I know it defeats the purpose of being portable without carrying around extra stuff, but possibly a diy cheap hack to prevent accidental gestures on the trackpad,
@GregJohnson-g1i4 ай бұрын
@@strawberryyogurt0 I have tried squares of cardboard, outdated credit cards, etc. They all work but really look wonky and get in the way. i just want the iPad to work like the Mac that allows me to turn off the trackpad when using an external trackpad or mouse. Is that too much to ask?
