My mum and dad were here from England on a vacation. I took them to Malibu for lunch. As we were walking towards the beach we passed by this man sitting in a lounger. It was James Garner and there was no-one else around. Well my mum and dad were over the moon seeing him. Before we got into the restaurant I thought I'd go and ask him if my mum and dad could have their photo taken with him. He was so lovely and said "of course" He was filming the Rockford Files movie. The next day a friend of mine was going to Malibu so she took the photo and James signed it and remembered my mum and dad. Such a wonderful down to earth man. So kind and not at all egotistical. I will never forget James Garner. Simply the best.

Mr. Garner was the kindest man I had ever met. As a guy just out of the service and from East LA I was fortunate to get a job at Universal Studios as a runner and driver and got to drive him a few times. And what amazed me was that he always remembered my name... really made me feel special. It makes sense that his kindness was a result of his growing up. I actually cried on his passing... Although I did not really know him on a personal level, I always felt that he was a person I could call on for help. A friend... He was kind, tough, and fair... God bless him.. he was a real star & is missed. Gigi, thank you & your family for loaning him to us.

Many years ago, I worked as a Production Assistant on a television pilot which starred James Garner. Part of my responsibility was to deliver scripts to the actors late at night after the writers made changes. The night I was to deliver the changes I could not, for the life of me, locate Mr. Garners house....(It was located on a poorly marked road in the hills and it was very late at night). I drove and drove, yet never found it and did not deliver the script. The next morning several production people told me I was in big trouble. They implied that my job might be on the line. Well, I met Mr, Garner in the elevator a few minutes later and told him that I was very sorry that I could not find his home the night before... He smiled kindly, and said ' Do not worry about it John....I would not have read that thing anyway".. He completely let me off the hook. For a young production assistant this was so unusual in a world where so many often mistreated him...I have never forgotten James Garner. First and foremost....He was a decent man.

I remember some 35 or so years ago, having a conversation with some guys about, aside from ourselves, who would we most like to have as a friend, what character on TV and the screen. Two of us said Jim Rockford. And, today, as I watch this series (up to the end of the third year of the series), I must say how much I really love James Garner's acting, how likeable he comes across as does his character who, though slick and a master of con, is full of integrity, good nature, brilliance, humor, kindness and strength. What a gift James Garner provided us as an actor and for me, especially, as the guy who makes Rockford Rockford.

In 1968 when I was 17, James picked me up hitch hiking on the California coast road north of Malibu. He said he was going to pick up his daughter from school in Ventura. While passing along Point McGoo Naval rifle range he said, " You know me and my friend Steve McQueen did some shooting over there once." I thought he meant shooting guns. Duh? I said " You know Steve McQueen?" "Yeah" was his answer along with "Do you know who I am?" "Are you Dr. Kildare?" I stupidly said. He looked at me in wonder and said, "I'm James, James Garner." Then I got it. I'll never forget. Sweet man. Thanks for this story of his life.

I read an interview of the helicopter pilot that flew the introduction scene where the helicopter chased Rockford's Firebird through the intro scene. It was a very entertaining read. He said the Firebird was seriously "built-up" but looked like a plain old brown Firebird. The scene had the helicopter fly up along the drivers side and showed Rockford wave to him and start laughing. He then proceeded to flat leave that helicopter in the dust. The pilot said the car was running well over 160 mph as it disappeared in across the desert, with Rockford laughing his head off. They both had a good laugh about it after that. ;^)

I used to watch that show regularly and always looked forward to the next episode with anticipation. Now I truly know that James Garner was a true gentleman, just as he was portrayed on TV. It's nice to know that one of the people who you admired on TVwas just like he looked, a true gentleman who took up the cause of the powerless and fought against the 'big machine' and won. It really makes understand all the more that there are really good people wherever you go in life. I loved every thing James Garner did. But Rockford was my favorite. He was a great man.

GG, Let me tell you how kind your father was. I sent him a Fan letter telling him how his show Rockford files help me get through the Marines while I was young. He sent me an autograph picture thanking me for my Kind letter. He could of just read it or dump it in the trash and had forgotten about me. His autograph picture means a whole lot to me. I also suffer Child abuse and knew that your Father could relate to me. I am not a big TV or movie watcher. I relate to your Father, not as an actor, but the similar life that we had as children. Also, I love the Rockford Files because it is like watching home movies. As a young Marine I spent many a weekend driving the streets in southern CA. In Rockford, they did a lot of their shootings on So. Ca streets, Where I can tell my grandchildren. when they watch it with me: I was there. :)

The Stage play, "Last of the Caucasians," is being made into a film. Would like to have your blessings in mentioning Mr. James Garner was part Native American, as there is a scene in which various individuals of note are referenced for this background. May The Great Spirit be with you and yours

Gigi....Your dad came to Omaha Ne...in the late 50's...for a Parade...my friend Joni was in that Parade she was riding her horse when your dad...started talking to her..he found out she had no idea who he was because she didn't watch Maverick..James loved that she didn't know who he was...Your dad took Joni her mother and your mother out to dinner that night...I have always loved that story..He told her to be sure and watch Maverick..So in a few days she was out brushing her horse...her mother told her that Maverick was on ...In this Life we make good memories or bad memories...Your dad gave a young girl a wonderful memory that made her smile for many years..Joni still lives in Omaha

A stellar example of a life rightly lived, in spite of having a nightmare childhood and many life challenges. A beautiful man in every regard! And well done, Gigi, for honoring your dear dad in such an appropriate way!

I absolutely loved James Garner, he played drama, comedic roles, he did it all. Above everything else he was a gentleman.

When I read your comment it hit me that early on in his acting career he said he just wanted a good job. The fame never went to his head. You can not say that about modern Hollywood types. They don’t just want to be the smartest person in the room they think they are. James was one of the last good ones.
@sparx1803 жыл бұрын
@@danoiddano6891 Thank you. I haven't gone to the movies in years. I saw Mr. Garner together with Paul Newman. They both were detectives, one good, the other corrupt. They had both aged quite a bit during that time. You never heard a bad word about either one. Both good, decent men, unlike what we have out there these days. Have a great week-end.

James Garner has always been one of my favorite actors - beginning with Support Your Local Sheriff! I was on a business trip in Decatur, Alabama, with nothing to do one evening - so I went to see this movie by myself! I laughed out loud it was so funny! And that was only the beginning for; The Great Escape and The Rockford Files stands out! R.I.P. James Rockford!

As a child, I was a big fan of James, and his starring role in The Rockford Files. He brought a genuine frankness to his character, that was one of a kind. In later years, when James starred in the movie Maverick, along side Mel Gibson, & Jodie Foster, it was a real joy to see him on the big screen. He was a talented man, with a big heart, and a unique sense of humor. He will be truly missed.

had two heroes in my life, one was my dad, the other James Garner. They were born in the same year and died in the same year. Both had one wife for life and did jobs they were born to do. No one could quite match my dad who was the greatest man I've ever known, but Garner was a great role-model

On James Garner: He was certainly one of my five favorite actors. He was gold no matter what he played. My personal favs were with Doris Day but my all time fav I've seen at least 4 times is Support Your Local Sheriff. Perfect role for him. He's one of just a handful of men actors that was truly tall dark and handsome. You were lucky Gigi to have had him as your loving dad

A friend of mine , pumping gas at a station in Jim's area . Jim would stop for gas, had a nondescript station wagon. My friend said he was a real nice guy, easy to talk with ,no pretense about Jim , and you're right about Jim's knees as he mentioned that to my friend in conversation ,he said they gave him much discomfort and he had trouble getting around .

Garner was a true class act and a gentleman of the first order. To spend a lifetime in the Hollywood celebrity milieu and never suffer a hint of scandal is a remarkable achievement and proof of his honesty, integrity and moral grounding. This, combined with his rugged individualism and refusal to be bullied by Hollywood's power brokers, paints a picture of an exceptional man. We are poorer for his absence.
