The way Jesse talked about Dave the Diver on Geekenders certainly makes me more excited for the playthrough, it sounds like after a rough start he really starts to enjoy it. Happy Jesse is funner to watch then frustrated Jesse.

did you miss the part where he has to take breaks just because this is an underwater game? I'm just hoping he's raking in the views for this torture lol
@Eventide2158 ай бұрын
It feels like in games where he just skips through everything he just isn't enjoying it and only playing it for the views/torture.. it's not that entertaining to watch in my opinion, but that's the world we live in now.. "fans" demand this kind of stuff. Like you said, happy Jesse is much more fun to watch.

I hope Jesse continues playing this game! He’s getting much better at it, and I want to see where this all goes. I love elements of the game and adore the design and aesthetics, but I’d do terribly at the QTE and would just end up frustrated if I tried playing it myself. I have to live vicariously through streamers for this one, unfortunately.

I just noticed the name of the boat that Dave dives from. "Nodens". That's a name of a Celtic god of healing that later got incorporated into H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos. Given the context of this game... well, that should be interesting.

Jesse thinking he is out of ammo when he put so much money into his harpoon is agonizing.

Seafood fact: giant squid are not edible. Yes, people have tried, but it's full of ammonia and would be like trying to eat a bottle of dish soap.

I feel like Jesse doesn't respect the net gun and the sleep dart, you can farm a lot of the easier areas with 3 star fish and get a lot of gold and equipment for when you do want to fight sharks. Getting a better harpoon is kinda essential vs sharks.

1:21:07 "You're all my customers when I'm streaming. And then I'm ignoring you and playing the game" Well, playing the game is serving the food, and giving us attention is taking our orders. Ideally our orders would be followed every time, but when you know your customers well enough you can still serve good food even if you're not listening to them every time (also, we understand you need time/attention to prepare the food, after all) 💁♂

Hey Jesse. I’ve played more than 200 hour of Dave the Diver and would like to offer spoiler-free advice. High quantity, low variety fishing/menu offerings. Focus on catching a lot of the same short list of fish and ingredients and put one item on the menu set to auto-supply. So long as you have enough ingredients for that menu item to serve 35 people; you will not runout and will waste minimal ingredients (only enough for one preparation). Also, you can add items to the menu mid service; the diners are all paused while you do this. Don’t worry too much about enhancing dishes. Enhancing consumes ingredients used to make the dish you’re upgrading; which increases each time you enhance. If you don’t have a healthy surplus of ingredients, you won’t be able to sell many of something you’ve just enhanced. Increasing your Cooksta rank and certain story events will unlock new, sometimes very profitable recipes. Training employees, also, unlocks more recipes, but isn’t the best way to actively pursue recipes. Dead fish give you less meat, but take up the same space in your inventory. Catching a fish alive will give you the most meat chunks per weight. Second best option is the harpoon gun, which catches the fish but the damage means less meats. Killing the fish and picking up it’s corpse yields the least amount of meats. Any fish you have to carve up; sharks, green parrotfish, the big eyed trevally, you will unlock a method to catch those alive. I could go on but I think this is the most crucial info that will help, you’ll figure the rest out. I love seeing more streamers playing Dave the Diver, it’s just fantastic. Hope this helps you enjoy it as much as I do :)

The menu is the least well explained mechanic in the game. I'm still not sure why it's a different number for the number of ingredients and the number of servings of a dish on the menu
@SilverionX8 ай бұрын
@@octochan Because some recipes give you multiple servings for one cost. If a recipe costs 2 of a fish meat and 2 rice, you might get 7 servings out of it, for instance. Each serving is for one customer. Hope that makes sense.
@Eventide2158 ай бұрын
@@octochan It's like cooking a soup.. you don't make it in like a single serving. You make a lot and take small servings out of it. That's what happens on the menu. Some things, like the shark head dish, give you 5 servings you can serve for the cost of 1.

After episode two I stopped watching, because I rushed to buy the game and didn’t want more spoilers. Now I’m 10 hours in so I should be able to watch Jesse play for 15 before I see anything new.
@Eventide2158 ай бұрын
I do the same usually when watching playthroughs from anyone. I'll start watching to see if I like the game then I stop to play it myself. It's always funny when, like you said, I can play like 3 hours and then watch Jesse play for another like 6 hours before he even catches up to me. The game isn't even hard he just isn't bothering to read ANYTHING for some reason.. which leads to more confusion which leads to frustration which leads to him just doing it more.. He just randomly puts things on the menu without bothering to check price or taste. Then he complains he doesn't have much money..

Is gatekeeping sushi a LA thing? I dont get the bit 😅
@peculiar8 ай бұрын
Gatekeeping of _anything_ is, in fact, A Thing, yes.
@Redsandjunkie8 ай бұрын
Just a thing, not specifically an LA thing. Jesse was joking about Bancho and that VIP guy basically saying "you have to do this to really experience sushi" and "real sushi is only made with raw fish"
@Eventide2158 ай бұрын
@@Redsandjunkie To some extent, it is true, but the issue is people take it too far nowadays and act like if you didn't do it the authentic traditional way then you didn't actually do it. That's the joke on the game. Bancho knows and understands the traditional ways, values, etc but he likes to do unique things and try new things. As an example of gatekeeping, there's a big thing with gaming now where if you don't play the game exactly how someone else would they get angry at you for it and act like you played it "wrong". Again, there can be truth to that, but people typically again take it too far is the real issue.

What are you talking about? Lmao. He did a bit about them showing up for 5 minutes and then leaving. XD
@Eventide2158 ай бұрын
The game itself makes fun of protesting. Jesse skipped through the dialogue mostly but Cobra says something along the lines of "It's the big corporations that cause actual problems to the sea not usually the small places. Yet all they target are the small ones. I wonder if they're paid off by the corporations." This is great because it's 2-sided. A LOT of protests target the wrong people. A lot of protestors also don't target certain people because they're paid off in some way. Also, on top of all this protesting itself isn't always a good thing.
