Jesse Williams is so intelligent, wise and well spoken, he was able to get his opinions across with bashes or hurting other races, he definitely deserved the humanitarian award!. And as for Justin Timberlake I don't he deserved any of the backlash that he got. He's a nice guy who was responding in a positive way so why the hate for him smh. why people in america are sooooo obsessed with race, seriously... if a black woman or asian woman wants to dance flamenco or wear a typical folk costume from Spain , I would never feel hurt for this. I'd think what great this lady wants to know our culture and love and appreciate our costume. This world is a FREE WORLD for goodsake and all those crazy things about cultural appropriation only happens in america because you are obsessed with political correctness and because instead to see what what unites us you prefer focus in what separate us. Actually there are more latinos in US than black people and i don't see them using this arguments for nothing . For me people aren't a race ,people share the same life because everybody is hurted when lose a lover, a relative, a friend, and laught when they are happy. This is a FREE WORLd and if i want to listen to Chuck Berry and being inspired for him I'll do it. Should we white people feel offended if someone of any race is inspired by reading a book written by a white or a black painter feels inspired by the work of Michelangelo? Should we feel offended if a black lady or asian lady wants to wear an ancient a Greek robe or wants to inspire by the white queen's costume in europe? Should we feel offended if a black man feels inspired by mozart? Should Latinos being offended if some of you want to learn salsa, bachata, or you want to play it? Should asians being offended if i buy a kimono jacket on a shopping centre because i thing japanese ornament and clothes are the most beautiful in the world? There's a buzzfeed video about indian-hindis bride.gowns, they are so beautiful, all people in the video make such a beautiful comments about their cultura and Indians are so happy for it . And 99% of them Looks happy if you wear a sharee with respect . For Goodsake, Why don't we just appreciate the beauty, the art, the traditions without complaining for everything? This is a nonsense

Because the black woman or asian woman will not be told that they wear it better than Spanish people. Because the black woman or asian woman will not make money for it, then say that it's ugly on Spanish people. Because Spanish people aren't bullied, kept unemployed or have negative and toxic stereotypes attached to them, for wearing typical dresses and costumes. Because there's something called "white privilege". Because non-spanish black and asian woman won't say that they created Flamenco and rename it "quick valse". It's much deeper than just "free world" it's about history, heritage and respect. Before you talk, I'm from France and I know exactly why in other places, people don't protest against cultural appropriation. In Europe for example, we (black ppl) are more pushed towards cultural assimilation, and are often trying to "blend in" or appear "different" from the stereotypes. Anyway, at first, I also rejected the idea of cultural appropriation, but I read a lot, had conversations and educated myself.
@SibilaDelphos8 жыл бұрын
+Lili Hime-Sama you are absolutely wrong ,here in spain we have japanese flamenco dancers, they make money of their performance and i think they do it very well.Actually there something called flamenco fusion and it's a of mix different traditions and music, like flamenco& Soul and it's amazing, or Flamenco & tango, like Pitingo o El cigala. I never heard for example a woman wears something better than other because is black or white . For example I can see rihanna in a beautiful art noveau dress or romantik and think wow she's absolutely beautiful .i've never heard any white people said they created rap, soul or blues. Another thing black people use to talk is about slavery and forget whites suffers slavery too for race and cultural reasons, In spain we suffer this trade too. The Barbary slave trade refers to the slave markets that flourished on the Barbary Coast of North Africa, or modern-day Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and western Libya, between the 15th and 19th centuries. These markets prospered while the states were nominally under Ottoman suzerainty, but in reality they were mostly autonomous. The North African slave markets traded in European slaves. The European slaves were acquired by Barbary pirates in slave raids on ships and by raids on coastal towns from Italy to Spain, Portugal, France, England, the Netherlands, and as far afield as Ireland and Iceland. Men, women, and children were captured, to such a devastating extent that vast numbers of sea coast towns were abandoned Spanish have bad stereotypes too, people used to use the imperialism cards against us and say we are racism, and we have a historical debt with the countries of south america , even our past colonies are free since 250 years and all spanish people i know can't be judge by their ancestor dud 250 years ago .

MrJazuko It has nothing to do with insecurities. It is an important issue actually and throwing words around like those just illustrates your intention of belittling the issue.Black culture is not "influencing" some people, it is being taken. You would think about "inspiration" when reading your comment but white people have not been "inspired", they have not created anything *new* so far. Cultural appropriation is when white people think Elvis Presley invented rock'n'roll, that tango is a white creation, and that today's greatest rappers and jazzmen are white people. Your comment actually proves my point when you say "other people" (like Justin Timberlake) are just "influenced" by black culture. No they're not. They're living the culture. When you reduce black culture as only an "influence" in someone's work, that's when there's a problem.

What Justin Timberlake said was taken out of context and misunderstood. People always say he appropriates black culture but that is the primary exposure of music he had when he was young. Growing up in Memphis, he was surrounded by black excellence and has every right to incorporate that into his music. He is not mocking it or using black culture as a backdrop or fashion trend as others but he is honestly making music with diligence and the utmost respect for the craft. And just as JT was, I was inspired by Jessie's speech. I was sitting at home watching it and I was clapping and cheering like I was there. Such an enlightened young man with a powerful message that I hope people heard because it is nothing but the sad and honest truth. His parents raised him right. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

A wise man once said he had a dream where his kids would live in a nation where they would not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Guess that doesn't apply when a "non-black" tries to embrace "black" culture.

@emidaria79428 жыл бұрын
Embracing and appropriating are two different things. The problem with a lot of people, including you is that you talk, but don't listen. The speech basically said, GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE. Has absolutely nothing to do with embracing smh
@onyxsolo18 жыл бұрын
Emi Daria I know the difference. if you honestly think someone appropriated something you did illegally take it to court and name names. But just throwing out a bunch of rhetoric like that is senseless....jmb
@emidaria79428 жыл бұрын
+Onyxsolo so we are just going to take every single person that has appropriated to court? its not realistic. making it like a public service announment like many, including Jesse, do, helps educate the public more efficiently. we honestly would have a more peaceful society if we were presented with a problem, listened, understood why it was a problem, changed it, and moved on. it's honestly not that difficult. just have enough respect to here you fellow man out. shouldn't be complicated at all
@onyxsolo18 жыл бұрын
Emi Daria What is the problem? Did you create the music or do you think just because your whatever ethnicity you are you have the right to claim someone appropriated something from someone else who is your ethnicity? Your race/ethnicity doesn't entitle you to anything and that goes all ways asian/black/white whatever. The credit goes to the artist and the artist alone their ethnicity shouldn't be a factor. If you have some legal tie to an artist and feal their artwork was appropriated you should at the very lease give clear examples but anything else is just a weak excuse to try to take claim to something you didn't even contribute to. And like I said before being the same race of an artist does not mean you contributed to the work they did. The dream was for people to be judged by the content of their character not the color of their skin. And that's all his rant was about.

lol really, white, me, give up my brown beautiful, caramel skin the glistens in the sun,and feels so smooth to look like a pink pale pig skin, with dog hair. My weave as u put it, is from Moroccan hair, in the middle east you idiot, and I pay a hella lot for it. Not only white women have long hair, black women have beautiful long hair as well, and its soft curly and thick and doesn't thin at 30 like white hair so please ok,not that its any of yr business, but since you keep talking out of the left side or yr ass, I wear my hair all ways, both natural and straight because I have that option being a black woman. Now as far as me wanting to be white that's a joke. Its so rich being black why would i want to be white even in the face of racism and discrimination, racial profiling and all, I love Beijing black, not that I owe you any explanation. My race is the strongest most beautiful, race in the world. White women wear more weaves and extensions than us, so please. If a white woman like Bo Derek runs on the beach with braids and beads originated in Africa, she's not not trying to be black right, or they go and get big lips bumped in their face , and butt implants their not trying to be black right, man please. i can still be proud to be black even with blonde hair , which many Africans have naturally, I guess you didn't know that either. Which by the way looks beautiful on brown skin. We all take beauty from other cultures, just like white women do. I"m not a racist because I love my people, and speak against injustice. I'm a racist when I hate another human being and seek to oppress them and deny them the same right I want and fight for, and hate them without cause, and think somehow God put me here to enslave, kill, and treat them as anything less than human. and yes that goes for the Sudan and African countries who are doing it today as well to each other, but I'm not in Africa, I'm in my country the U.S.A. NOW IF YOU ARE QUIT FINISHED. making stupid comments, I'm done with this whole topic. Good day sir. and goodbye.

The United States is supposed to be a melting pot of cultures. If others are using parts of a culture, I would think that means that they are bring accepted by the masses. And dont forget, every culture got their ideas from other cultures. As populations have increased and people traveled to parts of the world, they married people from different areas and different cultures and adopted somethings as there own and made it something new. That has happened since there have been people.

White Anglo Saxon Protestants, called Wasps for a reason, used to be the majority in this country, and they used to hate the shit out of Irish, Italians, and Jews, when they stopped doing that, they merged cultures with them, and a group that loves Saint Paddy's Day, Pizza, and awesome movies emerged that we now call white people. What some people are calling cultural appropriation is just history repeating, the majority has almost stopped hating another minority, and now seeing the richness and value of their culture, are absorbing it into their own, now a group simply called Americans is beginning to emerge, and that group will include all 330 million people in this country, Asians, Latinos, and Indigenous tribes as well.

I must respond to Jesse Williams' "inspiring" BET speech. First, I'm sure he had great intentions, but after listening to and reading the transcript of his speech, I can no longer respect him. Here's why: His speech was based on Black v. White, what about the Hispanics? Indians? Mr. Williams talks about his parents teaching him what schools were "too afraid to teach" and was talking in present tense. If this were authentic than he'd possess the fact that Irish slavery was a reality in this country also. Here's a fun fact for Mr. Williams, Oprah, and the Obamas: MY FAMILY doesn't owe anyone anything for slavery; we were slaves too. My great-grandfather immigrated here from Ireland. I'm the 3rd generation to be born in the U.S.; I'm "white", but I'm Irish. When my great-grandfather couldn't get work because buildings had the words "No Irish Need Apply" ETCHED into them, he joined the army, as did my grandfather. I could go on. However, before Mr. Williams speaks out of turn next time. He should speak how it is; not a Black v. White Problem, but a People v. Government Problem. When you divorce a case based on lineage the responsible party(ies) cannot be held responsible, and the future, whole populations (disabled, vets, etc), will be left behind. Those with concerns that go beyond the color of your skin (i.e. your children) should think about that.

+anthony gold basically starts with education. This also applies to poor people. Starting from pre-school/ elementary, some schools have more funding than others. Meaning more tools and resources to teach their students. If you went to a poor school, you're probably going to have lower act scores, not going to be enrolled into elite colleges, won't have the requirements to get a well paying job. Some people don't graduate, and have to enroll in the army. Nothing is bad about this, but why should poor people be the main ones risking their lives. Since poor people and people of color don't have the power to change the education or criminal system, they are systematically oppressed.

Jesse Williams message wasn't that we're all the same! His message sounded a little more like this: Black people!!! We're oppressed by this white institution! Let's focus on ONE particular horrible event to justify why WE are the victims! This isn't a poverty issue! This isn't a lack of education in the black community issue. This isn't a "there are more single black mothers than single mothers of any other race in the US" issue. This isn't a black fathers won't commit to having a family to focus on the next generation issue. And this is definitely NOT a "most black related deaths in the US are from black offenders" issue. NO!!!! This is a BLACK against WHITE issue.

so how about you fucking focus on what he was saying!! and not on dumb twitter drama? being y'all wouldn't have even covered this without Jt lmao
@bluenugget02188 жыл бұрын
the phrase "twitter backlash" is in the title of the video. it's a pop culture channel. that should be an indication as to what the video is about. this is youtube, where anyone can upload videos about whatever they want, including you. now, if people hadn't raised such a fuss about Jt having the GALL to agree with this guy in the first place, then the story would be different. but he just had to go and attempt to show empathy (what a fucking asshole!) and now he's getting hell for it. and yeah, timberlake is more famous than the guy giving the speech, so you're right. this wouldn't be a story without him. i guess you owe him one.

+Venom Snake WHITES BEGIN THE SLAVERY AND WE STRUGGLE SINCE THEN FOR FREEDOM & EQUALITY. You shoud read some history book for the first time in your life. White people stole and kidnapped not just africans, but also all the inventions, art, gold, diamonds and such. I do know my history, and it doesn't start with slavery! My ancestors used to be African Royalty, the richest and stronger of the world, that's why white people did what they did, because they need THE BEST workforce for free , and thats why whites could build their disgusting system, based in my ancestors blood and suffering. Anyways we are still here, taking the world! and there is nothing you fucking asshole can do about! We are stronger, smarter and faster than you! So, go read something and then try again!

If you take the time to talk to all the black mothers and black fathers who lost a child from white police officer then you would get a piece of the pictures but the victims family get the whole picture.You may live in a neighborhood with hardly any violence and you get stopped by police there nice and polite because you are white that same story with black people turn out different we have to plan a funeral and theres video recordings of the black man or woman doing nothing wrong but the color of there skin being black is the reasob reason they were killed by the police
@panicatthefallout77108 жыл бұрын
I'm gonna disagree with you. I hate those cases cause all people see is race. Were you there? Did you see what happened? All you saw was the media. Stop focusing on race, cause what if they were committing a crime.

Rakia Logan I was talking about the cop shootings. And are you just assuming they pulled you over for skin color, that's racism there. Unless the cop said some racist things or hurt you there's no problem. I'm actually taking a Law class, that usually happens if there's something their looking for like a similar car model or person. If it was a problem you could have took it up with the local police station. they would have dealt with it. I also don't see what you being black has to do with anything either, I'm black as well.

Basically people want to appropriate black culture and enjoy the fruits of our labor without acknowledging our oppression. Plenty of black artists make the music jt makes nowadays that has blues and jazz influences but ain't nobody checkin for them lol. Dabble in whatever type of music you want but don't tell us that we're all the same when we're not treated as such.
@adhityarisyad57078 жыл бұрын
StuckInThe80ssss okay, but I've read that jazz is actually a unison between African and European music (Its everywhere on the Internet) some called it America's original music. So why is it wrong for "white" people to make music with Jazz influence ?

You ever think maybe one of the reasons is because No Matter what is said your never happy and still complain.....oh that white guy has more than me that's racist....bullshit.....Black people can go to college n get jobs just like white people....no difference.....The only racism is the stuff you make up and whine about it.. BET is a 100% racist tv show, If white people had a show and specifically called it WHITE ent ....there would be whining for days, but a black person does it and it's no problem.....I can turn on almost any show and you will hear black people making jokes or derogatory remarks about whites, know one says anything....but if some white guy makes a joke about a black guy then oh my goodness...the whole racist thing is just laughable, the only reason it's even discussed is because anytime something happens all you hear is...oh there being racist there being racist.....Black people get treated the same damn way as whites and black people have the same opportunities as white people and have, and it's been that way for a while now...
@adhityarisyad57078 жыл бұрын
Faith Florida I believe there is still racism left now. You and I might never noticed it but some black people are the one that know for sure. I do agree with some points you made about those people which just love to victimize themselves but lets not generalize.
