The idea that Jesse Williams would be fired for this speech is preposterous. It is nothing like what Isaiah Washington said. First of all, he's just honestly speaking out about what he sees happening in America. He isn't calling out or insulting specific individuals, he's saying that there are many broken systems in our country that need to be fixed. And honestly, it has nothing to do with his job on Grey's Anatomy. In my opinion, he didn't use any offensive language or say anything hurtful. Just because you don't agree with him doesn't mean he's prejudiced against whites. We all know that we have corrupt police officers in our country. Police officers know it and so do civilians. OF COURSE that DOES NOT mean that ALL cops are racist. He's calling out the corruption, hatred, mistreatment, and other failures in our society, he's not calling you out personally, so you don't need to get defensive. I'm bracing myself for whatever arguments you have, so go for it.
@abentwookie8 жыл бұрын
The only arguments people will have will be completely unrelated to the issue being discussed here. You'll get a few screaming about crimes rates among black people even though they won't bother to actually do any research into the reason why the numbers exist. They will just blame it on the amount of melanin in a person's skin because that clearly is what causes crime. lol

@s777jm8 жыл бұрын
BET is owned by Viacom. The same company owned and operated by MTV and Nickelodeon. So saying its black owned is false. Its Black entertainment. Meaning its airs mostly shows starring black people. It is not specifically or solely for blacks. Anyone can watch if they so choose. White and other races for that matter have won and attend the BET awards. So again NOT solely for black people. Eben if it were black owned. Black owned things are not specific to blacks. Its stating who owns it. Not that only black people can purchase their wares.

I bet you didn't know that two weeks before Freddy Gray was killed, a poor white man was beaten and shot by police. You didn't see his family on the tv, because that story wouldn't make waves. The man had a two children, one who was just a few weeks old. His family was looking for justice, but nobody was around to help. See because the media plays you. The media and the government enslave you, because they want you to think it is a black and white issue, when in fact it's an American issue. Don't let the media and government deceive you.

+Sean Strader The gun was basically an airsoft gun, but wait, they have orange tips, but wait, tamir painted the orange tip black, and basically, it's a real gun to anyone who sees it, because they have no proof it's a gun, and if he points it at people, police have the right to lethal force. The gun and everything is in the evidence. If you think it's wrong, then become a police officer and see how it works out.

I'm truly lucky and grateful to have been raised by parents that never once taught me or showed others prejudice. My father grew up during the Civil Rights Movement and, like many at the time, could have easily grown into a racist adult. Thankfully, both brought me up to be respectful and judge one's character based upon their actions, not solely by appearances. I'm certainly not making them out like they're perfect, no one is. But I've been proud for 24 years so far to call them my Mom and Dad. I honestly didn't care about skin colors at any point back in school. I didn't know it was even an issue for people until we first started learning about slavery. I won't pretend to personally know what victims of racism go through, because I don't. But that doesn't mean I'm 100% ignorant on the reality of the subject or that I have no right nor place to have an opinion on it. If my 10 year old self saw this kind of treatment, knowing what I know now, he'd say: "Why are people being so stupid?" I like one thing Timberlake said (not because he said it, just the statement itself), "we're all human". I treat someone the way I would want to be treated, and if he/she gives me a problem, I just don't associate with them. GOD FORBID, more people could do the same.

And one more thing...funny to talk about racism in America while you are at a Black Only award show, shown on a black only tv channel. Hmmm...who's creating segregation and racism?
@herrerambp8 жыл бұрын
the channel was created to combat the mostly-white media (kinda how there's black history month since we mostly celebrate white historical figures). Nowadays things are a little more diverse but still most channels are run by whites with shows casting predominantly white actors... anyway, that's beside the point. I wish people could have rational conversations but both sides have very dumb vocal majorities, as the average person is pretty dumb and ignorant, regardless of race or nationality.
@schwann1458 жыл бұрын
Eeeexcept that's bullshit. We don't celebrate any Irish historical figures. No Scottish. No Chinese. No Russian. We tend to celebrate American historical figures almost exclusively, and the black population in America has always been a very small percentage. We don't need Black History Month to remember black heroes or icons - there just aren't anywhere near as many of them hailing from this country. That's not racism, that's just reality and math.

And do you know why there aren't white people protesting against that? Because they don't care enough to do that. And no they would not be dismantled because the kkk, a group that lynched, raped, murdered, and burned African Americans are still standing today so you can not tell me the group you are talking about would be dismantled. I absolutely love everything that this beautiful looking man said in his speech! As far as I'm concerned, he hit a Grand Slam for speaking his mind. I definitely love what he said, the way he said it, and how he spoke. If people don't appreciate it, then its not for them, its for those of us who actually give a damn about what this country was built on. I totally appreciated his candor at the right time and the right place, when you have that much honesty and truth in front of your face and in your face, there's nothing to argue about. He can live with himself, his conscience, his values and go on loving his wife, his family and the wider world around him. He's definitely going to be retaliated against because the Establishment hates anyone who'll stand up and challenge their so called authority there's no doubt about that, but Jesse felt like he spoke truth to power and he can live with that and his convictions. I have to say that it shouldn't have taken so long for something like this, Malcolm X, Dr. King, Louis Farrakhan, and to a extent Tupac Shakur have espoused all of this and then some. Everything Jesse Williams espoused reminds of what Eric B. and Rakim said in their song, I Ain't No Joke!

Funny how Whites are suddenly trying to co-op Blacks with White blood all of a sudden. 150 years ago, if his great grand mother had been raped by a white boy you would have been calling him the N word...now a half black is "not even black", lol. But the larger point is, why does somebody have to be black to speak the truth. There were White abolitionists for e.g. like John Brown. You don't need to be a part of the oppressed group to recognize oppression. That being said tho, it seems to me that White Americans always try to rationalize wrongs instead of just accepting the truth and saying F it...this is who I am. For e.g. when its time to overthrow another [brown or black] leader and steal their resources, White America has to give the schpill about him being a terrorist, or evil, or crazy or make some other silly back story up. Just embrace who you are. If you're the bad guy so what.

If anybody can find one thing wrong with this speech then you just want to find something wrong with it. He addressed what's going on in the world. Do you want him to lie? You can expect Black people to ignore the fact that in the past 5 years we have had over a hundred unarmed black men and women who were shot down, strangled, and tasered to death. But for some reason every single one of those deaths were justified or ignored as just self defense even though they didn't have a weapon. Whenever we address the situation we are hated by everyone. Even right people are signing petitions for this man to be fired from his show. What happened to free speech? If we don't agree everyone else and have an opinion we lose our careers. That's bullshit.
@alaly10278 жыл бұрын
He isn't losing his career. The people who are angry are the people Jesse is talking about. Too ignorant to realize that BLM and the BET awards regularly include white people. The whole speech is wrong. Just do a little research and you can see how this guy is and anyone who supports this speech is misinformed (to put it nicely). In addition to the numbers that disprove this idiot's speech, many of these cases, Mike Brown for example which many believe started this whole movement, the officers were acquitted because of testimony by black witnesses and a black judge. This is an Amazing speech. Now, i don't mean to change the subject to be about me, but this needs to be said. In my line of work being a Michael Jackson Tribute artist, you'll notice that most tribute artists are WHITE. I'm one of the only few Black Michael Jackson tribute artists that do what I do. Now I tend to get booked more because of my natural MJ look, the fact that I'm black and also because my dancing and performances are Always on Beast Mode. Even with all this, there are times when seeing white tribute artists really gets under my skin. Because we know that even though MJ's skin tone became lighter in complexion and he had a nose job, he was still a BLACK man. But white tribute artists use MJ's light skin tone as an excuse to impersonate him. They'll think "oh, he looked white...so why not". To me, I think that's such bullshit. It really irks me sometimes and it reminds me of how black people are basically used for their culture, influence, and then discarded till the next naive Black person comes along. I know there's only so much I can do about it. But I just had to get this off my chest. I know I'm not the only one who has noticed this.
@Soluchi-InfiniteCoCreatorGod8 жыл бұрын
The Jackson estate put an end to that. Unless there's another British guy trying to play MJ. Micahel Jackson stated in an interview that if someone were to play him in a movie, having a white person do it would be disrespectful.

Why? MJ spared no expense and effort attempting to reduce his "blackness"!
@Soluchi-InfiniteCoCreatorGod8 жыл бұрын
Lies. MJ had vitiligo (there are pictures of that with a simple google images search) and he was proud of being black. He's spoken about his black pride a lot. MJ also wore wigs because he burnt a good portion of his hair and scalp shooting that 80's Pepsi commercial. You need to do your research before spewing false information.

That anger you feel when you see white MJ impersonaters..... That's called racism.

He say's "invention called whiteness" while his white mother sits there and listen to how her son believes "whiteness" is evil. And how will his children being raise with views like this see their white grandmother? All law enforcement is not white; I should know I am one. His is as white as his is black no matter what label he may claim or be placed on him. Biracial people need to understand the blood that runs through their veins are equally of each race. I am biracial and I know who I am, I claim, nether white, nor black. I am just me. That my friend is how you fix the problem and yes there is a problem. It is not white supremacy but a label supremacy problem, and the more you feed into it the more hate grows for others.

his mom was obviously just the sandwich maker of their house. i'm surprised they let her come to the show. i guess so he can attack her "whiteness" on national tv. what a joke.

The only reason you get mad at this speech and think its racist is because you're racist yourself. Respect to you Jesse✊✊
