The reason why they don't know is : they talk through half of the dialog It is what it is Edit : another addition to that.... they just ignore important details especially because Davis is playing because they have to micromanage everything he does and it is taxing their brains

SPOILER WARNING!: Umbrella has no part in the Las Plagas thing. Luis was brought in by Saddler post-fall of Umbrella after the Raccoon City incident. Ada and Wesker found out about Las Plagas from Luis, when Luis realised the risk of Saddlers plans with the parasite and started looking for an escape. Wesker had plans of the forced evolution that we see in RE5 with Uroboros and he realised that Las Plagas could/would be an asset for his plans and research, so he hired Ada to go get Luis and the sample of the Plaga. And speaking of Resident Evil Village, the mold was something that Miranda discovered and got infected by and/or created the form of it that made her seemingly immortal because of losing her child to a disease and in her grief wanted to do anything and everything to resurrect her child, which she somehow learned that the mold seemingly had a hive mind that could take into it peoples memories that came into contact with it and thought she could bring her child back from the dead, through Rose as was the story in the game. Oswald E. Spencer somehow came into contact with Miranda through scientific circles or something like that, as it is implied that Miranda learned/became a scientific researcher when she was experimenting with the mold and she did travel outside of the Village in the 1900s to learn more for her own needs. The notes themselves in that lore room that was missed in that playthrough, it explains how Spencer was trying to find Mirandas Village as he was after immortality as well and how they talked about their plans and research. Spencer also wanted to "force evolve" humanity which he thought that Mirandas mold would be too ineffective to do en masse, which is why he went after the Progenitor Virus, which is found in Africa per what we learn in RE5. The Umbrella symbol was something that existed in the old ruins around the Village which is where Spencer saw it and decided to use as his logo for his company as a kind of tribute to Miranda, since Miranda taught him a lot and was a kind of mentor to him, which pushed him to start Umbrella in the first place. So all in all, (Progenitor Virus = T-Virus, G-Virus, T-Veronica Virus + other variants from side games(Umbrella)), (Las Plagas (Saddlers Ancestors/ Los Illuminados)), (The Mold(Miranda)), (The Mold, Eveline Project(The Connections + Miranda)) and in RE6 we have (The C-Virus, based on T-Veronica and G-virus (The Family/Simmons)). No aliens or Old Gods, that said, if they bring in either one of those as a source for something in a future RE game, I'm out lol. I like that the story is not based on supernatural or alien elements and it's just science fictiony things made from things that actually exist in nature, of course not to the crazy mutant extent as in the games, but still. The fact that there are other factions, than everything just being about Umbrella this, Umbrella that, actually gives them more options for future storytelling. This is also expanded by RE7 as the orders left for Mia and Alan as they are transporting Eveline is to protect her from "a high risk of being stolen by opposing organizations".

Well here Umbrella helps trying to make the super variant of the plagas that is being planted in ashley and allows her to retain her knowledge. There was an earlier note that said as much that also shows they got infected (and presumably also to Luis and he saved himself in his lab). Also they developped the Regenerador presumably. But yeah it comes from deep innthe earth before that.

The mold either literally capuring souls or copying and replicating entire peoples, having a metaphyisical realm inside it too shows they seem to be much more than just a random as plant or something and it would't be surprising if the origin of these is from another world that has similar organisms that aren't world treats like on earth because there the ecosystem is properly balanced.

The way the charms work, when you start a new playthrough, you get a randomly rolled set of charms that you are able to obtain. That's why you can get doubles, you're only able to get the ones you randomly rolled, especially if you put the same configuration of coins in the machine (like how the Squad is putting 3 gold coins in, instead of getting silver coins and using those as well.) You can use 1 gold coin and 2 silver coins, switching up where you place the gold coin, to get different charms from one of your rolled categories, but the best way to get all of the charms is to start new playthroughs and keep playing the gun game, using all of your coins as much as possible and just keep trying until you have them all. It's weird, but that's how it works.

Definitely a very strange system and it's not obvious how it works, I would have never guessed that it's the configuration of the coins that's important, since for most games it would just be based on the number of rare coins used in a pull. It's still possible that they had bad luck here getting the duplicate Ashley gold keychain right, and if they reloaded and tried again they could have gotten some other gold charm? Or is there only 1 unique gold charm per playthrough?

@@nyxmoonveil There's multiple gold charms, but the likelihood of getting different ones depends on where you out the gold coin. They kept putting in 3 gold coins thinking it maxed their chances for getting rare charms, but it doesn't quite work like that. The gold coins just make rare charms more likely. If they had used some of their silver coins mixed in with the gold and switched where the gold was, they'd get a chance at the other charms they randomly rolled at the start of the game. They were just more likely to get the same charms by trying the same coin configuration every time (3 gold coins) instead of getting their other potential charms.
