One of the books I read was: An Ice Cold Grave by Charlaine Harris. I knew exactly how cold the characters were in the story when they lost their electricity for several days. I always find the approximate halfway mark before I read these days. I also find the end of the current chapter. And I put separate bookmarks at each of those spots. (I also have a third bookmark that actually goes wherever I actually an in the book, just in case I am forced to stop in the middle of a chapter or something; ssooo, when I actually am at the start of a chapter, I bookmark the end of the chapter where the next chapter starts. Lol!!!) It helps me motivate myself to feel accomplished, rather than overwhelmed. So I keep reading. Every time I can check one chapter off as completed, and also see myself actively getting closer and closer first to the halfway mark and then to the end. It lets me know I'm not just wasting my time, I am actually getting something done. ^-^
@jaginaiaelectrizs63412 жыл бұрын
(Because a lot of the time these days, I don't even get to finish a whole chapter at a time, it can be so easy to feel sometimes like I'm not actually making any progress..even when I am...just sslloowwwllyyyy.😅😅😁👀 Loll So, doing this, has really been helping me not just let myself give up on reading entirely around all the other life/stuff going on around me right now. ^--^💖)

I don't get removing the dust jackets to read a book. Because books are meant to be read, and therefore they will probably be somewhat damaged in the process even if you take care of them. I don't mind if my books get damaged in the process as long as they're still readable. So I don't mind things such as cracked spines, which I know bugs some people. Sometimes there is a slight tear in the dust jacket at the top or bottom of a hardcover, again I don't mind. I feel like some people may see this as a weird reading habit, but I see this as reality. A habit that I have that I do see as weird is the fact that I read when I game. I will be on the laptop playing a game, and I will have a book with me that I will be reading as I play. It is actually one of the reasons I get through books so quickly. Another reason why I do is that I read as part of my breaks. So if I finish a task, I reward myself by reading a chapter or a scene or a selection of pages from a book.
@RandomWriter91102 жыл бұрын
My weird habit is checking how many pages and how many chapters a book has before reading it. It's a dangerous way to live, considering I can accidentally catch a line on the last page and ruin something for myself, but I still do it! 😅

For the people who need to chew on things in order to concentrate, there's a company called Chewigem that makes what they coin as Chewelry (chewy jewelry) from food grade silicone (if I remember correctly) so you can safely gnaw on something cute or stylish to your heart's content. I've heard loads of great reviews and praise, though, sadly have yet to own/try any. But it's something to keep in mind.

I have a weird habit of checking to see how far along I am in a book a few times per reading session, even if the book is awesome, and have to remind myself that enjoying the process is the goal so chill out. My weirdest one is something I only caught onto recently; Whenever I'm REALLY loving a book, and I doze off, I end up snuggling the book or Kindle against me like a teddy bear. Didn't even realize I was doing it until one day it dawned on me. I guess an amazing book is my emotional support animal? 🤷🏻♀
