Jessi's Having Another Surgery... in Italy

We're in Italy, but surprise! It's for surgery. We weren't sure when we got here if we would be doing our frozen embryo transfer or if Jessi would need surgery, so it was sort of a surprise turn of events. Sad we have to postpone our transfer AGAIN, but hopefully this surgery finally puts us on track to continue with our IVF. Extra prayers and good thoughts appreciated!

Verona is the best in Italy for endometriosis surgery. I had mine there almost 8 years ago. I had rectum and bowel endometriosis. It took 6 hours to clean up everything everywhere. Medical gaslighting is rampant and annoying! If one is an overweight woman, even worse. Have a hangnail? You need to lose weight. Sore elbow? You need to lose weight. Anxiety? You need to lose weight. One time I looked t my doctor straight in the eye and said” realize that I’m an overweight woman, but the following problem has nothing to do with that, so I need you to listen to me.” His expression was priceless!

Seriously similar situation to mine! I had pain throughout my life and had two ectopic pregnancies and a miscarriage. My tubes were deformed and IVF was a blessing to not have pain and worry anymore. First baby due in 2 days. You've got this! I had two surgeries for removing endometriosis and cysts + an IVF treatment as well and I really feel what you are going through 😢 I had endometriosis all over from my rectum up to my midriff and both of my falliopian tubes are closed. For us a miracle happened and the IVF worked, I am now holding my two month old miracle baby in my arms. @@myaccount118die erste war in der Marienklinik in Darmstadt, da wurde die Endometriose erst entdeckt. Die zweite war im Städtischen Klinikum Karlsruhe, dort gibt es auch ein Endometriosezentrum und der Chirurg hat die Endometriose sehr gut entfernt (es war ziemlich viel).

My wife had to get surgery while she was visiting Ukraine last year. She was floored the whole experience. It was all the same equipment, and she said you could eat off the floor with how clean everything and everywhere was. She was also not rushed out! Good luck!! You will have a great experience!

Having stage 3 endo myself getting a diagnosis is incredibly validating. I'm grateful to be diagnosed just shy of 18, which for New Zealand standards is out of the norm. Endo and women's health is so under funded and lacking research in general because apparently we just have anxiety (insert female rage here). I have had endometriosis for 35 years. I know all of the pain you have been through honey. Everything hurts. Bless your heart. I was told by 2 doctors that I couldn't have any children at the age of 18. When I was 26 I was scheduled for a hysterotomy and before my surgery date I found out I was pregnant by my new husband. So glad you found an endometriosis specialist. I had a moment of sympathy pain when you said you had a 2 cm cyst. I had one patient who had endometrial tissue show up in lungs 😳 Took several days of calling to find a pulmonologist who would even consider that was true. She is doing well now.

Thanks for the update. When you described the monthly back pain as coinciding with your endometriosis pain, my thoughts immediately were it was another area of endometriosis tissue. Thankful it was confirmed by your Italian MD. Good luck with your surgery. Kind of wish you could stay in Italy until your IVF is complete. I appreciate your sharing your journey with us. I’m sure there are many followers who are struggling with Endometriosis or other infertility challenges. You give them hope. I discovered I had Endometriosis after being married for one year. It was not studied at all, but this was many years ago, before IVF. Several surgeries to remove Endometriosis tissue, etc. We did adopt two children, and now have two grandchildren, including one who beats me at Monopoly every time. I think your IVF will be a success. Most important is your love and faith in each other. Hold on to that and you will win this.

Tara Lipinski mentioned having endo around her bowels as well. She described them as butt zaps. After failing IVF she got the endo surgery and they found so much. Of course all the experienced providers are concentrated in California. Give her podcast a listen, it was a super long journey. You’re not alone!

And I've dealt with some pretty significant medical things but nobody has ever told me it was mental. I don't like it when people generalize about medical care in the US because you can get good doctors who care about you in this country.

@@loganbagley902we have specialist in endometriosis as well. Endometriosis is tricky depends on your ultrasound, the technique of the U/S tech, type of machine and the Doctor’s experience. If doing the ultrasound the U/S didn’t image that area well it could be missed. There are lots of Doctors that specialize in this area in the US it also helps having a U/S tech that specializes in this as well. It is a big country. Glad they were able to spot something as well and you found a great medical team!

As a B'Boomer who has children your age, I listened intently to every word you guys saying. I don't think it matters what kind of issues you're having while trying to have children. Just the fact that it's not happening naturally is so stressful. However, listening with tears in my eyes, I just felt comforted that you really good path and things will start happening for you through the Lord. It seems women get misdiagnosed or undiagnosed for so many things. It took about 35 years to finally have my lipedema diagnosis. It was a physical therapist who told me to look into it, as she of course could not diagnose. Just wished I had her sooner in my life to have been able to treat it. Hearing when you said that there are not many who specialize and keep up with research for endometriosis, I frankly was not surprised. So glad you are bringing your struggles and treatment to light. I had fybromi removed in Verona. No complaints about the doctors or the surgery. But, be prepared on nurses that not speak any english and can become even a bit hostile when you dont understand them immediately. (Same happened in Brescia) Also, take biscuits, crackers, anything you like to snack, because the food is terrible. The first days you only get clear brodo with some small pasta and fette with warm milk. I lost 5 kilo in 5 days. (Actually a bonus 😂)

Unfortunately, this is often the case for many patients with many providers all over the world. There are so many reasons for this that are more to explain in this comment. Happy to hear you are being properly treatred. One of my oldest friends feom school had to remove both tubes and uterus at 30 because of endometrioses. She ended up in the hospital almost every cycle, she fainted from pain it was awful.... and my twins are the result of fertility treatment so I can relate to everything you are statung. I live in Canada and I can tell you that so many Doctors just don’t take women seriously we it comes to Endometriosis. I suffered for years (now I’m post menopausal and don’t have this issue anymore) I did get adulation done and it made such a difference. ) You really do have to be your own advocate and I’m so happy for you that you’re getting the proper care. yeah, in Europe they keep you longer in a hospital, no need to rush to leave, better to become stronger before leaving. Last year i broke my leg very bad and IDK how i would back home if i had to leave the next day, cause after the operation i was walking/jumping with a walker 3 meters to the toilet and i thought that i would faint, i had no strength at all. I stay there for 4 days. Here also there are visiting hours. few hours before lunch and 4-7 pm, but actually nobody cares, you can come whenever you want, just morning usually is very busy for patients, doctors visitations, procedures... In bocca al lupo for this surgery and sending all the baby dust for the future. In the meantime, soak up all the goodness of life in Italy and what better place to recover than the country that invented the phrase “dolce far niente!”
