Tennant said in a interview that Kilgrave doesn't see himself as a villain, hes a man whose never had a chance to have a proper conversation, let alone form any sense of morality.

@The Program I like your comment, it's very in-depth and analytic. Kilgrave is easily probably the best villain I've ever seen or read about. Half the time I wanted him to actually figure out how to be "a good guy". Half the time I wanted him dead. But I never stopped admiring him for how well he was written and portrayed, including the acting. Perhaps especially the acting. The scenes with him being locked in that safehouse were extremely satisfying as he deserved punishment and obviously couldn't just be handed over to the police and court. But they were also heartbreaking, as you could see that little, terrified child in his eyes. I also noticed pretty soon that he is a sociopath, like you mentioned. I think it only became crystal clear when they saved that family and he made it all about himself. At that point it could've been either that he would realize it feels good to do good from time to time or it would become clear that he's a lost cause. I'd like to add some more but I guess you said everything that could've been said. Wish I could like your comment twice.

I love the addition of Killgrave being a football fan who likes to shout at the TV. He can shout all the commands he wants at them to play this and that way, knowing that he won’t affect them. It gives you some great insight into his character. It shows that he truly is desperate for human contact where he doesn’t have to worry about every single word he says, but he doesn’t actually want to change his behaviour. It’s also so impersonal and still entirely in his control, in the sense that he can turn the tv on and off whenever he wants. It also shows that he always has a need to tell other people what to do- even when they can’t hear him. Like, they could have had him watch any program and had him say a number of things, but they chose to show him watching a game and shouting at the players whenever he’s dissatisfied with their performance. I imagine that’s how he regularly sees the world and the people around him. Great writing.

I like that with the little girl, the "You too" wasn't enough of a command the first time, she was able to argue back that she had to go to the bathroom until he refined the command to be more specific. It's also a thing in the comics that certain people have a high enough willpower to be able to resist him, partially or fully. Since his first command was so weak, but still clear enough for the suggestible state he puts people in, I'd wager that little girl had a bit of a higher than average willpower, but not enough to notice otherwise.

That's the terrifying thing about mind control, it's morally questionable. It uses words as weapon, clouds the victim's judgment and takes away his/her free will. I think one of the reasons why kilgrave is so terrifying is because he has a power so many of us desperately want, despite knowing what it will do to us. He’s an example of the true corruption of power, possessing qualities many can see in themselves

Yeah, it's really not not so simple as Kilgrave=bad and Jessica=good. A pronouncedly sadistic side surfaced in her when she had him in the holding cell...it went beyond retribution, and it definitely didn't seem like "justice." More like TORTURE. In fact all I could think about at the time was how we (the USA) justified waterboarding. It was disturbing and ugly.

What I find interesting about his powers is what kilgrave says to Jessica about when he gave the command "take care of her" he said it was her choice to kill her so I do believe it's purely down to how the individual perceives the command It is quite interesting and it's shown with other commands like "put a bullet in your head" how it's completed upon putting a casing in their mouth

H LP - What did you think of Christopher Eccleston and Matt Smith?
@kinghippo20346 жыл бұрын
Saaaaaame, i have a problem with all the doctors really but his one was the most annoying one to me, Eccleston was great, he actually looked like he cared for Rose (amazing chemistry between them also), he also was the most psychotic one (torturing "the last Dalek"). Tennant is just tooo dickless, he let a guy kill his daugther in front of him and he did nothing, in the christmas invasion the introduction to the 10th doctor, he says hes not a second chances man but they just threw that in the trash in the second season and onwards. M Smith seems like a good one, i can tell he actually shows a lot of emotion in the scenes i've seen, he does look, extremely silly sometimes, and i'm talking about the same person who used to wear broccoli as clothing. Capaldi...o fuck, he definetly seems like the most depressed one, also probably the one who most accepts his anger, top that in with his amazing chemistry with Clara and Capaldi's amazing charisma you've got my second favorite doctor, 1th being Eccleston.

Rewatching this makes me so mad they didn't go with the children of Kilgrave storyline from the comics. They explain with Hope's fetus that his children will inherit some of his Gene's, so potentially his powers. In the comics he has several kids from multiple women he's raped throughout the years who inherit his powers. The most noteworthy is his daughter Kara who becomes a hero named Persuasion. Imagine a season with Kara tracking down Jessica to learn about her father because she wants to learn about what she is. We see her genuinely try and use these powers for good. We see how hard it is to live everyday life without accidentally commanding someone and the tremendous potential for good with this power. Not to mention the great exploration of what it's like to be raised as a child of rape and maybe Kara accidentally commanded her mother to tell her the truth and it just came out......so much potential wasted 😔😡

i LOVE him. jessica jones was a great new show all round but what really REALLY clinched it for me was the presence of david tennent (who's literally always wonderful and one of the finest actors out there) in such a well written and defined nonchalantly /menacing/ character....he just elevated the whole show to another level. i love how he's written as well as performed. david brings a suave sparkle and charm to the role and at times an almost petulant nature which seems to simultaneously make him terrifying yet believable and even relateable...but the writing is also wonderful in this regard! i LOVE that here is probably one of the most sinister and powerful villains on tv or film right now, and that has zero to do with blah-blah-blah wanton destruction blah blah blah apocalypse oh aren't i so evil, and EVERYTHING to do with how self fucking centered he is! it's very human... next season's villain will have a tough act to follow.
