It is a well known fact that in order to assure he would not succumb to the great power of the British accent that George Washington asked that his fellow seamen block their ears with wax. Of course Washington wanted to listen to the wonderful sound of the British, so he had himself tied to the masts so he wouldn't succumb to their mind control.

I think the fact that people liked him was a testament to how well he portrayed the character. A sick sociopath that doesnt take responsibility for your actions and manipulates you so well into believing that it isn't his fault. But in all reality is just an evil manipulative bastard.
@magiv42059 жыл бұрын
There are both these sides to him. He's definitely an evil, manipulative bastard, but it isn't entirely his fault. there's also the side to him that seeks affection, and the reject made him force it on people. But you're right, especially in episodes 8 and onwards, I had to repeatedly remember myself of all the horrible things he'd done to break his spell.

I don't even think Kilgrave deserved to live or be given another chance considering the fact that he murdered, harmed, and raped so many people.
@ri.z8697 жыл бұрын
purplepoppy07 I totally get your point, I'm not saying he's innocent, but I'm a very second chances type of person, so I still think there could have been a possibility to do something good about him. I don't excuse his actions, but I say that he just doesn't understand what's good and what's wrong, because since his childhood, what he wants or say becomes fact. We saw that in the "hero thing" scene, when he GENUILY thought that killing the man was the best solution. So considering that, I think that MAYBE he couldve been taught what really is good or wrong, and i also think he was genuine when he cried and apologized to his mom and hugged her, the scene before this one. She couldve been the little thing that would have made him realise the bad he did, because deep down, like everyone, he loved his parents, even if he hurt his mom which i think he sincerely regreted. And they loved him too, that's why they had to make him go through all the medical torture as a child, but how could a ten-year-old or less understand that? That's the only image of love he was ever given, when we think about it.
@purplepoppy077 жыл бұрын
Sure, I completely understand where you're coming from. But once they let him go, they're completely powerless and subject to his whims. There's a small chance he'll change for the better, but no guarantee. Personally, I don't think it's moral to risk countless of lives just on the off-chance that Kilgrave decides to reform. Better to sacrifice one life to save many. And judging by the severity of his previous crimes, he would have likely gotten the death penalty in most US courts anyway even if his mother hadn't tried to kill him. It's sad how he never really stood a chance. Someone born with his power can't help but not mature past a childish mindset since no one's ever told him no.

I think he's the type of character who everyone will perceive differently; the way I see him, he's certainly evil, but I can almost sympathise with him because it isn't his fault that he's evil. He might be a complete sociopath who manipulates or kills everyone around him without remorse, and who tries to shun all responsibility for his actions and blame it on his upbringing, but there's a part of him underneath it all that resents his ability and is desperate to see the world from a normal point of view. Episode 8 in particular was fascinating because it explored Kilgrave's past control of Jessica, and her current dilemma in the form of recognising his potential as a force of good. We came to understand that sometimes his control is unintentional and that he genuinely wanted Jessica to love him of her own accord, and that Jessica was really just as accountable for Reva's murder as he was.
@Scrummy649 жыл бұрын
And we also came to see the upsetting realisation that despite his exhilaration at having done a genuinely benevolent thing and saved a family's life without spilling a drop of blood, without Jessica's guidance he genuinely believed that the right thing to do would have been to kill without necessity. When Jessica betrayed him and sedated him at the end of the episode, I was saddened because it had really dug into his character and showed that there was a glimmer of light left in him, but ultimately had proven that he was irredeemable.

+Scrummy64 Kilgrave is an unrepentant evil bastard who chose to be what he is and bad parenting and a shitty childhood is no excuse for it. Love David Tennant and he did a fantastic job. I think it takes an outstanding actor to make you both hate and sympathize with a character at the same time. I certainly can't excuse him for the horrible things he's done, but the fact that he pretty much has no concept of right and wrong as a result of all he's been through makes it such a shame. The sad thing about Kilgrave is that with this power, he's basically just a spoiled child who never hears the word "no." He takes what he wants because he can, and without consequences. And be honest. How many people, gaining that kind of power, could resist that temptation? Having people obey your every command... Joh Manabat I still think that if she gave him a chance and enough time, she could have changed his attitude for the better. I believe he wanted it too. Not the "change people's lives for the better", but rather feeling the thrill of being a hero. Have you seen how happy he was when they got back home? He said "A whole new purpose in life, it's exiting!" He doesn't really see a purpose in life. He is bored with it, because he can always get what he wants anyway. That's why he is so obsessed with Jessica, she is something NEW. Being a hero is something NEW, and if she spent enough time to teach him that it's also satisfying to do something for the greater good, I firmly believe it could've worked.

+mickyjoe97 I prefer the kingpin. He almost seems meek, whispering his lines in an echo of the character's desire not to draw attention to himself. And in the end, we learn that there is a fountain of rage just below the surface, waiting to erupt into shockingly violent outbursts. To me he was scarier than Killgrave. Killgrave is a fun villain, but Fisk was pure rage. I also prefer the dynamic between him and Daredevil because their opposition was symbolic. They are basically, children of Hell's Kitchen. Both are traumatized by the death of their father and their vision for the city end in conflict. Fisk was a dark reflection of Matt. And I don't know what's the problem with Vincent D'onoforio, he was amazing, his monologue speech was by far one of the best scene of the serie. This one scene alone, just this one short two minute scene, is darker, bleaker, more mature, bloodier, more brutal, grittier, dread inducing and straight up scarier than every single frame from every single DCEU property ever made. Perhaps even every DC film in general. Yet DC fanboys love getting on their pedestal and screaming how DC adaptations are sooo much darker and edgier than MCU properties, which they claim is for kids when one, no they're absolutely not (especially with films like Shazam, Aquaman, WW and its sequel literally being children's films), and two, all of their films have been equally made for and marketed towards children. Batman and Superman are literally characters made for children the same way Thor and Iron Man are. To radical DC fanboys: please stop deluding and embarrassing yourselves by repeating that false notion. Its just a lie. DC is very much for children. Just look at the CW shows. Theyre basically Gossip Girl and 90210 levels of acting and dialogue and drama. Might as well be soap operas. Absolutely terrible. And yes they are very much made for and marketed to tween girls. The CW shows just look awful as well. Terrible fx, terrible sets and terrible costumes. Terribly acted and terribly written. Looks like all the actors are cosplaying and doing a bad job at it. Pathetic. DC could never rival Marvel shows like Daredevil, Punisher, Jessica Jones, Legion, Luke Cage, WandaVision and now Falcon and Winter Soldier. Then Loki, Secret Invasion, Armor Wars etc. All of them are substantially more adult themed and oriented than any DCEU film and again, darker.

I have one question: does kilgraves powers work on people who cant understand him? For example if he orders something at a man that only speaks spanish and couldnt possibly know what he is saying will he do it anyways? His power relies on him giving the order or on the person hearing it?
@fabulousmyriad2679 жыл бұрын
+diegoalvarez64 The experiments performed on him created a virus which he emits. A vocal command directs the action but anyone within hearing distance of him is infected and susceptible to his commands: he may mime cutting your throat for instance and you will *want* to do it.

I love the Persuasion and total mind control powers. Pushers are a bit coolAwesome. Once in a while ,I'd like to be a Pusher/persuader.:-):-D .I felt so bad /Sad for the poor Punk kid.I hope he went back later and told him he could leave the fence and give him money to go eat and get a drink.

It really bothered me even back when I first watched it; what is the plan here? Ok, make him use his powers so that everyone can see. Then what? Sacrifice the parents? If not - then why not have some kind of contingency plan? Knock them out with sleeping gas, with electricity or whatever.
@austinadams51095 жыл бұрын
This is an older comment... but F it. I think Jessica thought the electricity trap would still work. My guess is she thought she could zap them before the mind control set in.
@user-rj4pq7lm1n3 жыл бұрын
they did have a contingency plan; they were going to electrocute them to stun them, however they didn’t know that hogarth cut the wire so the electricity wouldn’t work

Although this show is full of plotholes, I still think this is waay better than DDS1. JJS1 brought something new to the table whereas DDs1 is good but it's a "cliche" type of good.

Magic of Blakely I dont believe so. I think Kilgrave said he told a guy to 'screw himself' and he was telling Jessica how that guy is probably still trying to do it.I think it wears off if you get a donk on the head unconcious. Nick Kage said he needed to wait 24-36 hours after waking up from his concussion to make sure he is clear.

Kilgrave and Kingpin are the best Villians in the MCU so far, they are both amazing; but i can't say the same about the rest, Loki is kind of good, but he's overused as shit; Ultron was a huge waste of potential and Winter Soldier wasn't even the villian in CAP 2, it was Alexander Pierce and who remember who he was?. Grand Ward in AoS should be dead by now, at this point, he's just wasting screentime. Malekith was very generic, The mandarin was awsome in Iron man 3........until his reveal.
@cashthecurator6668 жыл бұрын
I love both of them. Kingpin is a Tragic Villain, but Kilgrave is a Complete Monster. With Kingpin, he's the product of being under the thumb of an an abusive, alcoholic father and mockery from other kids, which gave him a drive to prove himself. Kilgrave was tortured horrendously, but his parents tortured him because they loved him. But all of those dreadful experimental and lack of guidance made him into a 10 year old boy in a 40 year old man's body. You feel sorry for the Kingpin, but you just feel pity for Kilgrave.
