This was the showstopper song in "Dreamgirls" on Broadway. I laughed out loud at your description of Jennifer Holliday's approach! So true! That's the way the song was meant to be sung--raw, over-the-top with no holds barred. Little Jessica was trying valiantly to keep up with her. I hate when artists perform with the contestants and like show them up. I think they should refrain a bit and allow the contestants to show more instead of making it like a competition between the two.
