Another way families can make nannies feel special: if you're comfortable with it, send pictures of the kid occasionally when we're not working. I grow to love the kids i work with and a sweet pic while you're on vacation will always make me smile! (a family i worked with for a long time just moved away and yesterday I got a pic of the kids on a backyard picnic, it made my day)

Before I was a mom I was a nanny for many years, to a bunch of different families. Everything these ladies are saying is so true. It's really great when you find the perfect family/ Nanny Dynamic and it just clicks I am still really close to a couple of the families that I nannyed for one of the moms was even in my wedding the families become a part of your family, and you just had this special bond with the kid even when they're older. The first family that I had the kids were in diapers and now they're teenagers and we still have this really close bond.

We're one of those families that has a camera in every room... and you wouldn't believe how many times it has saved the nanny! So many times when we've suspected new nannies of maybe goofing off or causing some kind of problem, we've found out through the video that our suspicions were misplaced. In fact, one nanny we had, we thought she seemed a little lax and lazy when we first met her. So, in the beginning we'd check in with the camera a few times a day - and every single time we found her working her heart out and loving our kids so sweetly! Without the camera we never would have known what a great job she was really doing! (We gave her a raise shortly afterwards). In another case, a very sweet and energetic girl we hired, turned out to anything but energetic after we left the house! She would seat herself down in the most comfortable chair in the room and not move an inch until we got back. She had never been a nanny before and really didn't know there's more to it than just staring at the kids as they run around the room! Knowing that, gave us a base from which to work with her and help her begin to understand what we needed and expected from her. She turned out well in the end, but it was only through the knowledge we gained from the cameras that we were able to get a sense of what kind of guidance might help her. After we trust a nanny, we never bother to check in with the cameras... it's not like we have that much free time on our hands, which is why we need a nanny in the first place! The cams have also helped us a couple of times when one or the other of our kids has had an accident and we really needed to know what happened but they were too young to tell us. So, if some problem like that comes up, it's good to know the video is there in case we need it. It's not always just about the nanny.

as long as they disclose the cameras and they trust me enough to not use the voice feature of the cam to talk to me and tell me what to do using it, I'm fine with them.

I like everything said. I am also a nanny/babysitter. And I always tell my families that Cameras are WELCOMED! but previous notice is appreciated. Why!? This does keep sitters on our toes. Also it is a way that a good honest sitter can protect herself from false claims. Parents can also see if the sitter is a great match to your family and your child. Last but not least... you have to make sure your baby is SAFE!! You can't trust anybody blindly. There are terrible cases of abusive sitters... let's make sure your child is safe!! A good sitter that is aware and logical about this dangerous world, would understand. It might make her feel a little uncomfortable at first, but she shouldn't take it personal.

I am a nanny have been in the field for few years now. parents always prefer day care, i have not had the opportunity to work in a day care but i have always found a difference between kids that are going to day care and kids that are being nannied around the same age groups. most of the family says they need their kids to socialize by going to the day care centre. so what i have seen the difference was i always expected the kids who go to day care centre are smarter than the children who are privately taken care off, though it might not be the same case for every nanny, I am finding the kids who go to day care dint know how to count or stack or say the alphabets. while the kids that were nannied till they were 3 and start the preschool were far more smarter and was easy in the school too. and the one who goes to day care does not listen to what we have to say, are agressive, throws thing at you, makes angry faces at you and yells at you and i have to run away or stop taking care of the kids that go to day care and takecare of them after school. am i over thinking or is it same with other nannies too. i prefer nannying infants who dint go to day care but making them ready for school thats until 3.

Some nannies have unlimited flexibility, and others don't. It is important to present that scenario, and ask if they will be OK with it. Some nannies won't mind, but others will not do it. I don't mind, but at the same time we might have some appointments scheduled, so it is good to ask. It is also good to have a back up nanny, who might help if the full time nanny is not able to stay.

When you say "don't hire someone you don't trust", well.... that's pretty much impossible for two main reasons: i) There is no inherent trust between the parent and a professional baby sitter (and I mean someone who isn't family). No matter how many positive recommendations and good first impressions, the parent will always have some reservations at the back of their heads ii) When you let someone look after your child, there is SO much at stake (i.e. your child's well being) that simply you can't absolutely trust anyone other than you. So my point is that there is no way a parent can 100% trust a nanny anyway (and probably that's the healthy thing to do), but they obviously will still need to get one (they one they trust more than the other ones!) to take care of their little ones because sometimes there's no other way to get by.

Nannying has to be your passion not a side gig. That’s my point as to why so many people have issues with Nannie’s. They don’t see this job as a duty to teach, entertain and creat a daily plan to prepare the child for next stage like preschool.

As a career Nanny, I've always said no to teaching religious curriculum. I would never undermine what a child is taught by their parents or their church/religion/beliefs but I won't teach a religious curriculum. Having said that, I have worked for Christians, Atheists, Sihks, Hindus and Muslims without trouble or strife, in fact I learned a lot! I think it's always fair to ask these types of questions of nanny in the interview process so you both know if you are compatible.

I find this so interesting! Nannying isn’t really a thing in Norway
@talya90894 жыл бұрын
Wow! Is there a specific reason?
@sarah-kg3ix4 жыл бұрын
@@talya9089 I don't know about Norway, but in Spain they are not many nannies because usually kids go to the nursery / school depedind the age or they are with their grandparents. Here it's very common that grandparents take car of their granchildren.
@hannaverlie67474 жыл бұрын
@@talya9089 It was more common before, but most the kindergartens are well funded by the government and they put a lot of money and resources into making them a good learning and caring environment for the children, so most children start there when they are one year old. It's cheaper and "safer" than a nanny (since we dont have systems in place to ensure the quality of the nanny, but many to ensure the education and quality of the kindergarten teachers). And the parents gets paid time of work until the baby is one year, so most people do not need a nanny that year either.
