The dream of being able to leave our corporate job to go for something that gives us freedom, happiness and flexibility is honesty just a dream... until now. And we’re seeing that our parents, who have spent 30+ years with a company or corporation, are getting totally screwed over. It’s not like our grandparents generation who had a solid pension, and an employer who seemingly knew and cared about them. It’s not like that anymore, there is no feeling of loyalty, or service, that anyone in a huge corporation is making a real difference with “administration” dictating our every move at work. Phew, that turned in to a rant I wasn’t anticipating! Hey y’all good luck!

The last 6 months have consisted of me heavily considering leaving the corporate world to start working for myself. I’ve been extremely hesitant to get started because of the uncertainty- not only in the economy right now, but also because I am most definitely one of those “multi-passionate” people which makes trying to niche down seem almost impossible… Ironically, about a week ago I was notified by my corporate job that they will be “eliminating” my position in December of this year… So, I have made the decision to take the next 6 months to really try to make it happen so that I don’t have to continue working for other people. Your videos have truly helped and inspired me to believe in myself and to just take it one day, one task at a time. That being said, I just have to thank you so so much for just being you and sharing your journey!

Jessica, I really appreciate your post, it has definitely given me a boost, motivation to get off my but and rake action. Although, with me, I’m all over the place with ideas and what ifs or should i’s, it’s ridiculous. I feel like I’m dragging a dead horse. So much pressure of what am I going to do with my life, my talent that I always give up before getting started. When I have too much to think about or too many people telling me that I’m too creative to even have a problem making money, that you need to do this or that, I basically shut down and do nothing. I hate my job, I’m at the age of retirement with nothing saved and that is what’s upsetting me most. I should be further along in life whereas I should be prepared to retire with what I need to have already in place and I don’t. I can’t do anything until I start something. I beat myself up all the time, trust me but I have to use the god given talent as an artist to be passionate about the one thing that I love and turn it into a dream job. I took some days off, a mental break, and now is the time to take action. Thanks Jessica

I feel you! My job was giving me anxiety throughout my daily life, and my OCD skyrocketed (since OCD is an anxiety driven disorder). I told my boss about how I was getting burned out (and was still burned out on my days off) and that there should be more than one person running a buffet (cooking, getting food out, keeping coffee going, stocking up all of the utensils and condiments, wiping tables, doing all of the dishes by hand; and then I had to do this as fast as possible so that I would have enough time to clean 8 common areas of the hotel!). Then they started having me unload the delivery truck all by myself. But since they didn't care, they later blamed me for not getting everything done during a 7 or 8 hour shift, and they fired me over the phone. I could take them to the labor board, but they were willing to be my job reference. At the same time, I don't want to work in food or retail anymore if it's just going to be like that again. Been chasing my dream as an artist and am thinking about working for Door Dash or Instacart. Or even for a temporary job agency (because places seem to be a lot nicer to you if you are always the new person). How are you doing now? Would love to know, because it might give me hope.
@xx47412 жыл бұрын
@@ArtsyMegz_On_Etsy hi!!! I am so very sorry to hear that happened to you! I can’t believe they would do that over the phone. So sorry :( I found out for myself that I lack consistency and discipline big time. I am learning how to care for myself and it is very difficult. I did delivery apps for about 3 months and then found a new job hated it, quit found another, hated it, and I just started another new one today that looks better. It’s with a major car company and I’ll be working in collections (away from the general public) doing admin work. I have a good feeling about this one. I also wait tables on the side which has good moments and some pretty awful days that really get to my depression and anxiety. With all that said. I think you should go after what you want and what feels right both intuitively and logically. Maybe you have much more consistency and discipline than I do, and can make it work! So many people do! I’m a bit like you in the way that I decided I did not want to do retail anymore or restaurant or any of that. I decided I want stability and office work, and something that’s more toned down (hopefully). I still have to wait tables on the side until I at least get caught up on bills and then maybe I can replace that with doordashing again if I start to build that discipline muscle.. The biggest advice I can say (which you already know deep down) is that you are a hard worker, you deserve more than that place. And I deserve more than waiting tables, or selling crap. I believe in you and you can make this work. I know it.

I went part-time at my corporate job this year and I lost my health insurance benefits because of it (most part-time employees aren't eligible for their company's insurance plans). To keep myself covered, I had to purchase my own individual health insurance plan. Most states offer financial assistance programs to help you pay for insurance. Hi Jessica, you mentioned linking info on your two friends that can help with starting a virtual assistant business but I don't see them in the description. Would it still be ok if you sent them over? Thanks

I have a SERIOUS question. I've been offered to work with Facebook Pages and ads exclusively. Can I also have a premium subscription at KZbin? I'm severely disabled & have time for a long haul. Should I stick with the pushy flaky weird demands @Facebook or go with something more stable like this?

I’m so scared to leave my corporate job but also I’m so unhappy here. I just need the courage and know that everything works out for a reason! 🥴

What about those of us who have been stay at home/homeschooling moms, out of the corporate workforce for 10 plus years? The way the world has changed, being a one income household is no longer working for us. Extra funds to start something is very small to none. Any suggestions on that?

What can you do? What are you good at. You can baby sit kids of the working mothers. Can you take pics? See what/where events are. Can you do hair maybe braiding or make hair accessories.

Why you tubers say 'you can make 1000 dollar a day selling digital products" when it's not true. It takes a while. They should use a disclaimer.

Why in you videos do you always say leaving your corporate job. Not everyone got lucky enough to have a corporate job. Some of us have been working 2 full time jobs because there is other opportunities available to us.

Other people are smart too, we aren't worthless just because we are not in corporate.
