Jess - Your excitement, spark and delightfully witty humour light up the world. Patreon will be a great addition for you. TikTok too might fit as a way to earn income. You were my inspiration at the start of the Pandemic. I built five raised beds and planted right along with you every step of the way ever since, even bought a glasshouse.The asparagus-peas dialog made me roar, but I laughed louder still when you gave your best effort at trying, but failing and finally flat out passing on the "what five things would you grow" question. I thought for a split second you were fixin' to flee the room in sheer panic. Your art is amazing! You and mum have a great week. 🥰

Car owning and driving in London 🤯. 40 years ago, Richmond, Shene, Barns and Kew would gridlock. I rode a motorbike and alternated with trains as and when. Public transport tends to go in or out of London while I worked in Willesden and College in Harrow. Bike much quicker than car/bus/train. Since then, in snow and ice, on call, in Yorkshire, a 4 wheel slide is more controllable than 2. Travel times are similar but changing into or out of work clothes just added time to journeys. I never had a garden in London, so never bought plants or compost and strapped them to a bike! 🤣🤣 Still I've had bulk compost delivered in the country too! Great video. 👍

The Baby Boo squash was also quite similar 🤤 loving the vlogs thanks

Jessie stop using that pencil to pick seeds up use a match stick also dont keep licking the pencil get a tiny glass half fill it with warm water every 3 seeds give the match another dunk in the water.when i plant carrot seeds in a 10 inch bucket i cut the bottom off a plastic soil sifter fill the bucket with good compost, lay the plastic bottom on to the compost get some plain flower on a board tip the carrot seeds onto the flour.then pick them out one at a time put them onto the sifter plant 1 3 5 7 9 11 13 onwards you dont have to touch them till harvesting the 10 inch pot you can grow 32 plants please try this method.

Leca also helps in a gravel tray, if the plants out grow the pot, they root freely in leca so doesn’t affect growth. It can be reused each year, just rinse it. Leave to dry and put back in it’s bag.

@andersonomo5973 жыл бұрын
Just a little warning on those daikon radishes - they're such sneaky little buggers! First time for me this year too! I got all excited when they popped their little heads out, and they looked good, but with only a teeny tiny radish underneath, so I figured 'oh well' and ignored them - and then holy moly - OVERNIGHT they grew into big fat radishes bigger than my forearm! They grow above the soil more than into the soil - which I didn't realize, being a newbie at this - and in my case the foliage concealed the reality underneath. Awesome and fun to grow although they do take up A LOT of space - at least 50 cm x 50 cm per plant - the tops are edible too but not to-die-for delicious. Definitely will be growing them again. Hope you have as much fun as I did! Cheers!

Hi Jessie. Loving the channel and in particular in relation to chilli growing. What was the lemon chilli that you were raving about and what was it that you loved about it. I love making a good curry and my aim with my gardening is to grow as many of the ingredients for my curries as I realistically can. I've already planted a ginger rhizome, but it is dormant and doing absolutely nothing a month in. I'd love any advice yourself or any of the others in this community could give on growing indian/asian herbs and spices. I do have a small greenhouse and a plot of around 25m x 6m with which to grow. I'm really looking for a genuine flavour improvement from fresh grown produce and possibly even to grow hard to find fresh ingredients too. I'm looking into the following, but I'm a real novice and welcome any advice any of you could give me: Turmeric rhizome growing for the root Ginger rhizome growing for the root - currently asleep under compost :-( Fresh coriander with leaves for garnish and roots for Thai cooking (Vietnamese possibly?) Curry plant for leaves Cardamom, cumin, fenugreek and mustard for seeds Chilli's - flavourful and medium heat - I'd like to also dry as many of these plants/leaves and seeds too, but haven't looked into this very far yet. I did notice that you were raving about your own chilli flakes and powder, so will watch that. Other ingredients that I may be able to grow and preserve in some format such as powders and flakes: brown cooking onions garlic carrots cabbage red bell peppers - I have Californians growing in a propagator and then under lights for this tomatoes - I have plum tomatoes growing in a propagator and then under lights for this smoked and normal paprika - my very favourite spice I look forward to advice and ideas

I’ve got my seed compost. I’ve trying to grow some exotic seeds this year, up for a challenge bolstered by my success with my coffee seeds and lisianthus. I prefer using square pots when sowing seeds fit better together on the windowsill. I always sow my chilli and sweet peppers seeds in tissue paper and an old bag, and pot in a plant pot when I see root, works for me and not wasting compost. Ive started a few seeds including geraniums, begonias, lisianthus and antirrhinums. I like vermiculite for topping seed trays, it’s meant to be transparent and seedlings seem to do better. My new veg I’m trying this year is garlic and celery
@tamararoberts93073 жыл бұрын
Also helps to deter gnats ( vermiculite on top)
@JessieatPlot373 жыл бұрын
Hi Jamie, yeah i know someone who always germinates their chillis like that! I never have a problem with germination just in a pot. But i totally agree on the square pot thing! Because most (nearly all) my pots and just free things i've picked up i've found square pots harder to come by. I might have to bite the bullet at buy some!

Hi Pat! In theory yes, they are perennial. I'm not sure how many years they keep fruiting for but i know they can over winter.

Hi Ann! It so depends on time/temps when you sow them. I was lucky with this bed and timed it spot on, they were up within a week, established so fast and have been really productive! The next bed along i sowed 3 weeks later and they are doing nothing!

Jess, have you ever made art to go into a garden? I am aiming to start my peppers and tomatoes this week. Got a little crazy with the seeds this year, going to need to make a lot of beds for them.

another cool video im hoping i can get some chilli's this year i got lots of lush looking plants and flowers last year and only small shrivelled up peppers which fell off n dies any clues to what i did wrong? plus if i do get any or i buy some if not have you done or can you do a vlog about how you make chilli powder and flakes? awesome art btw im also an ex art student that hardly does any art anymore lol
@das_hanski3 жыл бұрын
Hi Bev, it's usually a sign of stress, if the plant drops immature peppers. At the beginning of the season it's quite common but it usually stops at some point. Other reasons could be too much heat or irregular watering. What variety/varieties did you grow? And for the chlli powder, check out vlog 34. 😃
@JessieatPlot373 жыл бұрын
hahaha, Hanski is the chili king so go with what he says! But yeah, i do get a few of the early ones drop but it normally comes good. Also i have a blog post on chilli flakes\powder if your interested : plot37.com/how-to-make-homemade-chilli-powder/

Hi Jess. What mild chilli would you recommend. As we don’t like them too hot. Just a random Question we’re did you get the pine boxes behind you in this vlog? Lim x
@sheilaleatt11773 жыл бұрын
Hi, Jessie's boxes are from Ikea and they are called Moppe, hope this helps 🙂
@JessieatPlot373 жыл бұрын
As Sheila says they are Ikea. :D But hmm... are we talking very mild? The black jalapeno are super mild! I'd say the Aji Lemon is mild but it does have some heat, especially when dried. But fresh its not too hot.

having bubble-wrapped one of my greenhouses, it looks like the bubble-wrapped one gets much hotter in the afternoon - but it gets just as cold (-1) as the unwrapped greenhouse at night. Anybody else find this?
@MorningsattheAllotment3 жыл бұрын
I think it just takes longer to cool down. I ended up not bubble-wrapping mine this year. Nothing in there that needs it at the moment. And for what I'll be planting in the next couple of weeks, I'm relying on things being more cold-hardy than we think - and being protected from the elements should be enough (we're zone 8b, very temperate)
@JessieatPlot373 жыл бұрын
Its really interesting to here. Mine is definitely not getting as cold. although i don't have two to compare directly i know other years the poly has been around 1-2º colder than the greenhouse and this years is about 5-6º colder some something s happening!
@elliep45703 жыл бұрын
@@JessieatPlot37 hm, that is interesting. perhaps it's a bit nerdy, but ive plotted the readings on a graph (I'm extremely cool like that) and the temperature fluctuations have been surprising - one day mid dec had a high of 21and a low of 1 in the wrapped. unwrapped was 16 vs 1 - not such a big drop, but still...odd weather.

Well, I looked at your Patreon page, but unfortunately it isn't anything for me ☹️ I would gladly support you, and have wanted to do so for a long time now. However, I do not want to connect any of my bank/credit cards to a recurring billing service, which make it impossible (or very inconvenient at least) to block it from internet and/or abroad usage when not in active use.

Thanks for giving an A to my earlier Q about looking back on your VLOGs in later life! 👍 My five veggies to grow if nothing else were fairly easy to pick, in order 🌶 🍅 🥬 🧅 🍓- and I do get the low value of 🧅 but having fresh Spring Onions in the garden is just 😍 I’m genuinely super excited to get my 🌶 going next week, easily the thing I’m most excited about - that’s like the start of the season right there. I adore 🍅 and am now astonished at the variety available. Plus I am still, today, in January, growing and harvesting 🥬 leaves, so I am much excite for them too. 🚙-free here for the past three years, though that’s made easy since I don’t need to go anywhere! I’ve been following your adventure since episode 5, so I will have to look into Patreon… 😉
