I remember as a child collecting Apache Tears somewhere in Calaveras County, Northern California. A guide also took our crew of “rock hounds” to a secretive vein of Honey Onyx. We were able to knock out several large specimens. My parents were in a Lapidary club, and having a good sized workshop, several Diamond blade saws resided there for Few years. I recall the sounds of saws running through the night to create slabs from which to cut jewelry specimens. Fun times for my twin Bro and I growing up in Vallejo CA. (Mid-1960’s)

My initial training at Intel corporation was in Chandler AZ back in 2000. Temperatures over 120 degrees multiple times that summer. That type of heat saps all of your energy and makes you retreat back into air conditioned environments. Made me never want to go back and appreciate our more temperate climate in Colorado. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the south wall of the Grand Canyon and recommend everyone put it on their must see list. No matter how many video's or movies you have seen with the Grand Canyon in them it still takes your breath away by it's immensity. My ideal vacation day would be to book a lodge room right along the canyon and sit on the balcony drinking hot coffee watching the sunrise. That way when I got to cold I could go back into my room. lol Seriously though the Grand Canyon is truly awe inspiring!

@rhondac7254 when I first went and seen the painting I thought it was too. I was excited because I had been going out filming some Petroglyph locations and thought I stumbled on one. Once I looked into the history I realized it's not. It's a pretty short hike from the trailhead on 60 just outside of Superior. Even if you're not a rock collector they're neat to go see. On the map it's called Perlite rd. Just be aware if you follow the trail past the caves toward Superior there is an active mine, you can't miss it though as it's a giant hole like a quarry. Stay on the trails and your good.

back in the 70s, my family went to "Apache Tear Cave," and I was too young to remember, but I believe it was a paid attraction. We brought home a bunch of "Apache Tears rocks." We have a photo of my Grandma sitting there, and she looks like she is on the moon. Growing up in Tucson, my dad would take us rock hounding, and we would visit ghost towns and other local attractions. My dad is a very ethical person, and I doubt we would have done anything destructive if it was not allowed. From what I remember the Apache tears were plentiful and we were able to gather some from the ground. I remember a similar scenario with collecting rose quartz.

@@eloyspencer8961 that's so cool! I've always wanted to go to that area. I've always been very interested in nature, geology and history. I could have a field day there!

Did they have permission from the property owner to mine on the land? If not, probably not a good idea to splash the evidence all over the internet.

The chest viewpoint was an interesting change but I think I prefer the drone viewpoint. It boggles my mind that people will chip away at the columns that are holding tons of rock over their heads. Some day somebody is going to give one last tap in there and they will have to bring in a back hoe to dig the body out. The area just outside of that "cave" also has a lot of large Apache Tears and there isn't tons of rock overhead. Looks like it's gotten overgrown out there in the past few years, though. BTW, there's a shiny square thing on top of a mountain the middle of Bulldog Canyon OHV area that would be perfect to explore with your drone. I haven't been able to find a way to climb up there so I either have to talk you into investigating or invest in a drone myself. I'll send coordinates if you're interested.

No problem! The drone is amazing....but they were amazing people and I enjoyed their company, you'd be really pissed if you knew the amount of city folk and vandalizers that go there and tear it up

Great drone footage. It's sad to see that people are now stealing the tears of the Apache and defacing the rock formations for purposes of greed. Sheer ignorance seems to be the way of the world these days.

Amazing video(S) and such close up shots of areas no one would probably ever get to see otherwise. So thank you for sharing your experiences. Makes me wonder how many more areas that could hold great evidence of previous civilization we've yet to even think about, let alone see...

10:05 Based on my limited knowledge of geology, those caves with the obsidian are made up of what's called "welded tuff" which is a type of volcanic rock that is created when a super high-energy volcanic eruption buries an area in ash and rock, most likely via a lahar (a burning-hot volcanic avalanche), which is so hot that the deposited ash partially re-melts until it slowly cools into solid rock. The most likely source of this ash and obsidian was from a chain of extinct one-off super-volcanoes that erupted across Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Northern Mexico during the Mid-Tertiary Ignimbrite Flare-Up Event 25-40 million years ago. I would have to know more about the local geology to tell you for sure.
