I bought a Jobsworth 2 about a month ago and have just received a product recall notice from PlanetX which read "We have been notified from our supplier there is a safety concern with the above product." This was a bit late for my stove as the first time I tried to use it gas leaked from the valve that connects the cylinder. I did not notice this before igniting it so the flames melted the plastic parts of the burner and I had to use a wet towel to put it out. The recall notice was specific to devices that have been sold since January - if you have one check your email!

Sorry to hear you've had issues with yours James. I only gave the review based upon what I had In front of me and mine has been faultless. Needless to say, I think your issue will be the reason for the recall. That is not good 👎

@@Shaun-Wilson thanks for the response. I think the guy that posted this video had the same issue as me kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZyxhaWMbNaNnc0 He was more sensible and did not use the igniter! This is the response I got from Planet X "The concern on the stoves is that the pin isn't long enough so the canisters have been tightened on a lot which can cause a gas leak. We therefore must advise against using the stoves"
@Shaun-Wilson3 жыл бұрын
@@jameshawkins1339 thats terrible! It has to be the reason for the recall. Thanks for the kind words on the channel 🙂 unfortunately I'm no longer creating content... at least for a while anyway. Now that the pandemic is coming to a close and normal life has resumed, there's not enough hours in the day. I miss having free time 😂
@ZeberkoPoland Жыл бұрын
The problem no longer exists in the new models. The valve is longer. As a result, you can hear a small gas leak when screwing the canister. I've been using the stove for a year and I'm happy with it. A wider bottom gives you a better opportunity to mix food. You could test the ability to adjust the flame. I recommend it to anyone looking for a budget cooker. Jet boil - lighter, more economical and better made. But their politics repulse me. You pay quite a lot of money but you have to buy pot support separately for a lot of money. A bit like expensive backpacks without a rain cover

Great comparison Mate. Started cringing when you got the grips out. A few years I bought the highlander blade mk II. Basically it's the same as the jobsworth. And it was £60 which is remarkably cheaper than jetboil. In a litre of water Boilrace to my mates jetboil the blade was only a few seconds behind. Now on to the bad parts. Once used and warm the metal came loose from the plastic, which made it spin round and snap my pezo ignitor. Then I noticed on a separate occasion that the plastic had shrink and caused a split. And when you try to detach the cup from the burner once boiled it wouldn't move as the cup had expanded and trapped itself against the burner (hence the cringe). Apart from that the blade has always served me well for the price.

Great video. Was going to buy the Jobsworth, until I saw on their website that in summer 2021 they recalled this product due to safety reasons, and their website isn't showing any other products of this nature (they've recalled a number of products on their homepage). Some people have been buying off eBay...probably unaware that they've been recalled. Shame because I was honestly going to buy this. I believe there's another brand called Fire-Maple that are very good and cheaper than Jetboil.

Finally someone with enough ingenuity to realise you can just crimp the burner on the jobsworth to give a snug fit on the pot. Every other reviewer lists fit as a negative when it's such a quick and simple fix. Picked one of these up for £15 in the sale, hard to say no at that price.

The brilliance of the Jetboil is not the speed it cooks a liter of water in, but the efficiency of it using the gas cannister. I've been there walking 3 hours on a hot summer day in vain to get myself an extra canister. It all depends on the circumstances you are camping in. The jobsworth is a nice alternative especially on a crowded camping when you pitch your tent one time only with a camping shop available that sells canisters. The lure of the Joabsworth X2 for me is that I can afford having it stolen.

Just a tip concerning the frying pan ring is when you put it on the burner just turn it and it should stop and hook onto the 2 lugs on the outer edge of the burner ring so then it won’t fall off,but what I did was bend up the clip slightly so it stays in place and tightly under the 2 lugs,,,, I hope that’s all made sense Shaun,,

Great comparison vid, my mate had a jet boil with him at the last preppers meet, he cooked food in it and burnt it, had a hell of a job to clean it out, as soon as I saw the wider jobsworth I thought, that wouldnt be difficult to get your hand down to the bottom of to clean it out, even if you have chunky hands. I think it won in most respects in my eyes, I even prefer the handle! The price of the jet boil always put me off and I would begrudge the extra tenner for the pot stand. I don't do fb so this will be going on my christmas wish list, it isn't somehing I "need" but I would delighted to have one. I am off to bookmark the link ;)

Hey good day Shaun thanks for the video like how you went into so much detail that was really really good. Lol... but was cool too see it in a lot of detail so this was awesome and also to see the comparison about the actual 2 ive been thinking off. One of the reasons ive delayed is cus I dunno whether to just get the Jetboil as thinking it may be 'better' in the long run. Did want the MSR Windburner I think it was called but cant get one anywhere!! Apart from AUS with stupid shipping price 😂 Hahaha love the fix!! 👏🏻👏🏻 Them handles are already annoying me though when you move it about lol think that would be my fixing mission.... Think Jetboil 'want you' to use their summit skillet pan, the grooves fit into it and its supposed to be weighted 'correctly' for their stove 🙄 Very impressive tho and for £30 cant complain really!! Might treat myself... Nice one maaaaaate!! ATB Chris

How does the jobsworth do when simmering? That’s the main reason I have a jet boil (minimo) which is more similar to the jobsworth. I don’t think many people will even notice an extra minute or so waiting for water to boil. Try making a stew in there, I think that’s when you will notice the difference when you’re scraping the burned food from the bottom of the jobsworth. As before great at boiling water because the heat fins assist it. Not sure what the jet boil is like with a frying pan? Would of thought it would be slightly better?
