Yes, first time I ever actually rolled a ski! BTW I also have a handheld that I keep in the PFD. But my experience with handhelds on that trip to Fraser Island last year was that it was only good for about 1Klm over water. Once I lost site of the other guys I also lost them on radio. I have never felt safe since then. These blackbox units are about the same price as a good handheld plus install fees. Have huge range, almost as good as any rec boat.

Paul After watching several of your videos I've decided to add a black box marine radio to my wave runner. How and where did you mount the black box? If you could expand on how this was installed I'd be grateful Thanks
@Jetcast Жыл бұрын
Hi Hal, the black box on this ski was put up under the dash console on the right hand side. You access it by removing the front right white panel, the one directly below the handlebars. It is attached with about 6 hex screws, and the panel slides back to be removed. On my new ski it will be in a similar position but slightly better protected from the elements I believe. The handset on the GME GX750 is not really water resistant and will fail if left uncovered, so mine ended up getting mounted inside the glovebox. In my opinion the black box itself needs to be kept as dry as possible too. So wherever you mount it think about trying to keep as much saltwater off it as possible. When I receive the new ski (a couple of weeks from now) I will try to show the entire fitout, and hopefully we can also see the placements of al accessories fitted.
@halcoxon8782 Жыл бұрын
@@Jetcast Thanks Paul, I went with the ICOM M400BIB & based on your comments regarding the saltwater I'm thinking of adapting a dry bag to protect the black box . How do you find the front rod holder have you brought a later model ski and used the same holder thanks
@Jetcast2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lou, I'm still on the same ski (now at 550hrs on engine!) and the GC Jetski Fishing front side rod holders are pretty dam good. Two of those is probably all you need, although I have recently added a dashboard-style holder as well. I find them probably the best overall position for trolling, albeit a little more expensive. But the side ones that are down lower are good for all round fishing as you can use them to hold a rod when drift fishing. I do have that recessed/flush one one the right side that was fine but maybe a little too lightweight for the need as it is made of plastic. You can see the dahsboard trolling setup being used with good results in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIaQkn5jiqiso5o Hope that answers your question. Have you had any issues with this method? Have not seen it done this way before and looks like a good solution for the cable. Have subscribed and thanks from West Oz for the content.

Hi Bill, thanks for watching and getting in contact. The transducer cable method is something the local specialist here in Queensland, Shoreline Yamaha, did for me. I've had this same method used on my last ski (VX Limited) as well and had no dramas. Seems to be fine and doesn't leak or damage the cable that I can tell. These guys founded and ran Racetech Yamaha in South Africa and moved to Australia, so they've been doing these fitouts for a long time. So I've had no issues at all. I guess ali should replace it soon at that sort of money! But this one claimed it could start a 4WD - and it has -so been great value.

Hey mate who did the isolator switch for your sounder? I’m about to pick up a fish pro and want to throw a switch on with a second batt
@Jetcast Жыл бұрын
Hi Blake . I use a dual battery kit. It has an isolator switch plus a voltage sensor relay to keep both batteries charged. It’s been perfect and I’ve never had to worry about running out of power. It’s been on the ski since new and never failed.
@flipspearing Жыл бұрын
@@Jetcast thanks mate. Do you run everything to one battery and have the second as back up?
@Jetcast Жыл бұрын
@@flipspearing Not quite. I alternate between batteries for each trip, with the selector switch determining which one your are using per trip. So the main becomes the backup the next trip, and vice versa each trip as I try to share the load on them. While you are running on just one battery per trip, the VSR senses when the battery in use is fully charged and switches charging to the other battery. This keeps them both "topped up" and I haven't ever had a time when the selected battery had been depleted. I use gel cels (not lead acid) and test at every service. The setup is the way that most trailer boats setup up for dual batteries. The concerns of some people is that the switches and VSR offer more points of failure. It does, as there are more joints and electronics to fail, but mine has been good for 4 years and 650+ hrs so far!

Hi like your setup. I'm thinking of getting a ski for fishing and more. Do you prefer the Yamaha over say a see-doo pro-fish? I'd be interested in your thoughts, also I see you fitted tubbies, they look pretty good too. DOn't know if they're available or needed for the see-doo, cheers
@Jetcast4 жыл бұрын
Hi George, I first chose Yamaha because at the time (2017) they were offering a 3 year manufactures warranty while Seadoo was only 1 year locally. Then I stuck with them when I upgraded to the 2019 model. Both the first ski, a VX, and the current FX have been trouble free. I haven't ridden a Fishpro, but they look really good for people that want to buy a package and not have to do much in the way of mods. The owners I know like them, some add the bigger Fishski coolers to the back, and many have been adding live bait tanks. I believe Tubbies are now available for the Fishpro, so that would make a very good all round ski that also has the storage space and added stability. If you are an older rider, having the rear swim deck free of obstructions is also a big plus for added safety if you ever have to get back on. I assume you have seen the latest fitout video? kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYPUlnSYab2Klc0 If you have any other questions, send me an email info@jetfisher.com

I have heard that the 2019 and 2020 yamaha svho and fxho are less stable than the older ones is this the reason you fell in the water ?
@Jetcast4 жыл бұрын
I’m not aware of them being less stable Zak. I had a full aux tank of fuel (27lt adds 27Kg) plus a new fishing esky on the back with a stack of gear in it. The wind and swell were up, then I stood on one rail which didn’t help matters! However I’d recommend fitting jetski collars if using a large rear mounted esky, as the centre of gravity is raised and does make the ski a little less stable in choppy conditions. Without that on the back and using a lighter esky I never had an issue. I caught the large Spanish Mac on the same rig and it felt stable enough in challenging conditions. I now have Tubbies and you couldn’t find a more stable fishing platform!

Ok, so I picked up my FX Cruiser HO yesterday. Very excited about it. It looks like I could use your help on one thing in your setup. My local guys don't seem to understand the smart charging relay coming of the stator to charge both batteries. Can you point me to a resource that might educate me a bit more on how that setup works?
@Jetcast5 жыл бұрын
Gary Baker it’s a pretty common thing in boats so I’d speak to a decent auto electrician. If you google “VSR and switch “ you’ll find the product and wiring diagrams. Failing that are you member of any Facebook Jetski or boat fishing groups locally? I’m sure someone could help there. You’ll love the FXHO!
@Gary_Baker5 жыл бұрын
Great info, thank you. I will be looking into clubs soon. It's all very new. As for this, I was told the stator didn't perform like an alternator, but am I right to assume it will at least push 13.2v since the relay requires it?
@Jetcast5 жыл бұрын
@@Gary_Baker Sorry I'm not technically minded to answer this question, except to say that I am told that the setup I have allows both batteries to be charged. I believe the stator will push the voltage required to charge the battery, and the VSR will sense when the charging battery is full and switch to charge the second battery. The switch allow you to select one battery to run from, and you can select one battery for one trip and change to use the other battery for the next trip to "load balance". If one battery does go flat or when it ages it fails, you can switch to a fully charged and working second battery to get you home. I am also told that this also means you can generally not have to charge the batteries unless you are not using your craft for a long time between runs. So yes, while the engine runs it charges the batteries. I always check the voltage before a trip and it seems to be working out for me. I would always replace batteries around the 2 year mark...or at least have the professionally checked to see how they are aging at the 18 month or 2 year mark. Hope this helps.

Do you see much flex in the deck with all the weight?
@Jetcast3 жыл бұрын
I’ve since changed to Shoreline/Racetech Tubbies. But the deck of the FXHO has some flex in it when you stand on it, so a rear mount cooler that it is strapped down pretty well should minimise any up down movement. At the end of the day, I used this until I could get a hold of the Tubbies. The rear cooler is one solution for offshore fishing, and far more cost effective alternative. The only issue I see with them is that if they sit too high they do affect the centre of balance. A lower centre of gravity is more ideal so you can handle rougher conditions.

Great video and setup! What did you use to make the neoprene cover for the back of the fishfinder? Also, do you trust the rodholders on the fishski to troll with?
@Jetcast4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Thanks for watching and commenting.The neoprene cover was made out of the upper section of a pair of rose gardening gloves! True story. I found them at the local hardware (Bunnings) and thought that for $5 a pair I could use the neoprene. There is a post on Jetfish Facebook group with some photos of how I made it if you're keen! They work very well. Re: Rod Holders: Fishski are very strong and work well. Their tethers are good but I would reinforce with stainless tethers; I also prefer the rods in front of me when trolling. I have a rod holder in the side of the ski on the right side, and now have Tubbies which have Railblaza on each side. For me these are more practical. But that's personal choice and the FishSki are the best of their type on the market. Check out one of my later video and you'll see me trolling with rods on front. Cheers

Im not getting a new jet ski but i was wondering which is better for offshore fishing 2 or 3 seat
@Jetcast5 жыл бұрын
Hi R Reichel. The only two seater skis made these days are really the Seadoo Spark. Although you could use the 3 seater Spark, the two or three seater Spark is not an ideal offshore craft. So pretty much all skis are 3 seaters, and each have some small differences. I chose Yamaha due to their great name for reliability. Seadoo make a nice specialist fishing craft with most things you would need. But all brands are fine, just check out their warranty terms if new, or the ski's service history if 2nd hand. Low hours is not always a good sign for 2nd hand. Regularly used skis often have less mechanical problems than the skis that only get 25 hrs a year. Cleaning and servicing are the things to look at. Get a mechanic to go over a 2nd hand one so you know what you might be up for.
