You guys need to watch the live shows! I appreciate you two a lot. I am 66, back in my late teens, my father who hated rock was passing by when I was working on my car playing "Songs from the wood". He stopped with puzzled expression on his face and asked, "What is this? I like it!"

One of my favorites as well. I have had the opportunity to see him live several times; amazing stage presence. I still follow his music although he is more contemporary these days. Some other songs I enjoy and most of the public has never delved into: or you don’t hear on the radio include: " Jack-A-Lynn", " Life Is A Long Song"; "Fat Man", " Too Old To Rock 'N' Roll"; " New Day Yesterday", "Skating Away on the Thin Ice of a New Day" and "Songs From The Wood". (Live versions are best of course)

Found Kelpie, I do have the 20th Anniversary - yes, "Kelpie" you are correct another good one by him. When I found the album I recalled a cut on there I love "Stormy Monday". laughing at myself because I have all these albums and he has been around almost 60 years. I've been listening to Tull since 1972 and have seen them in concert about 40 times. Nobody else sounds like them. Here is your list of deep tracks: Nothing Is Easy Bouree (flute instrumental) My God Cold Wind To Valhalla Black Satin Dancer Hunting Girl Songs From The Wood Dark Ages Black Sunday And if you're really looking for something really longer try side 1 of Thick As A Brick. About 23 minutes. You won't believe your ears. Enjoy!

"I wonder who Mary is?" Um... how do I put this in a family-friendly way... "Mary" is a schoolgirl who exchanges certain physical favors for money, if you follow my meaning. Ian Anderson has said as much in interviews since then. Several of the songs on this album, such as this one and the title track ("Aqualung"), are character sketches exploring the humanity of people who are considered socially unacceptable, disreputable, and otherwise rejected by "polite" society.

Hey you two 👋😎 awesome JT session as always 🤘 my favorite band ATM. I *strongly* recommend continuing through this album since you seem to like it, it's one of their best. For the best experience I suggest the following sessions for ya: *Cheap Day Return* + *Mother Goose* (these two are slower softer type of songs so keep that in mind, former a bit shorter and latter a bit longer) *Wond'ring Aloud* + *Up To Me* (former another short softie and the latter a fun lil' rocker) *My God* + *Hymn 43* (former one of their very best, quite heavy and a sick flute solo, the latter another fun lil' rocker with lots of groove) *Slipstream* + *Wind-Up* (former yet another soft shorty and latter another fun rocker) And that completes *Aqualung* 👏 I recommend *Stand Up* after that, my number 1 album ATM, more bluesy and it's got so much variety. That OR *Minstrel in the Gallery* (title track), personal favorite JT song, one long, epic and proggy banger 🤘😤🤘 Looking forward to the next JT session with you guys, whichever song(s) you may choose 😎

Tull is definitely an acquired taste but what a class act he was. I loved the old school little trick he used to do with his vocals to give them more depth and tonal range. Ozzy Osbourne used to do the same thing too. They would sing their track , then sing it again "with themselves" The two takes would be blended right and left, and would give the vocal a really cool phasing effect because of the minute timing differences and inflection differences.

@@fatherandsonreactions I used to be a huge Maiden fan back in the eighties and bought every single (both 7" and 12") and album. I also liked Tull. Cross Eyed Mary was actually on the B side of The Trooper single. It never featured on an album. Dickinson's vocals actually quite suit the song and Dave Murray does a nice job replacing the flute with the guitar. It was obviously just them paying homage to Ian Anderson. Nice version, but doesn't beat the original.

Oh wow, did you open a rabbit-hole asking for deep cuts of Jethro Tull - check these with your Tull-expert friend: Nothing Is Easy For A Thousand Mothers With You There To Help Me Play In Time Up To Me Sealion Rainbow Blues Cold Wind To Valhalla Black Satin Dancer Hunting Girl Pibroch (Cap In Hand) Journeyman Rover Something's On The Move Flying Dutchman Part Of The Machine Farm On The Freeway And for other songs with notable flute - Genesis "Firth Of Fifth" Golden Earring "Big Tree-Blue Sea" Heart "Sing Child" Focus "House Of The King" These should keep you busy for a while. All the Jethro Tull songs listed above either have good flute solos or have the flute as an integral part of the song. (And, admittedly, some are there because they're personal favorites. Sue me.) They're listed more or less in chronological order. I tried to get a couple of songs per album, and the missing pieces are albums I haven't replaced or never bought. There is a large variety here, as Tull was constantly evolving throughout their career. Of the remainder, all are very tasty; of the batch I recommend "Firth Of Fifth" in the strongest terms. It's Genesis' masterwork (among their songs that aren't named "Supper's Ready").

This was a nice tune! Had a solid groove to it, and man I do love how he integrates the flute into the composition. I'm with you S, I wish there was maybe a minute more added to the instrumental at the end (with awesome flute playing, of course). I haven't listened to many bands with a flute featured in, but doing a quick search I guess there are others out there. Jethro Tull is pretty well known for using it, though. I do know a couple metal bands that incorporate bag pipes, or a saxophone, however (among other instruments). Haha. Love it when bands incorporate different instruments that aren't common in their genres. Lastly, I'm now deciding between two other tracks for Sigur Ros, so next time I may suggest something different. Other than that, here's the current first three in my metal reaction requests: Opeth - Strange Brew Deftones - Rosemary ISIS - Dulcinea (with lyrics) Thanks for the vids, guys! Take care, and probably see you on the next one!

@@fatherandsonreactions I remember them being talked about in the last stream. Opeth is a progressive metal band, though recently they've been more progressive rock. Opeth are also influenced by blues rock and jazz, and their songs often have both electric and acoustic parts. Imo, one of the most important influences in modern day prog metal. Strange Brew is LIKELY going to be the track I'll be suggesting in the stream. It's a bit lengthy, but I think the sound is right up both you and your Dad's alley. I think it's an easy listen, and really good, starting track for them. We'll see though. Looking forward to a good time with everyone either way. :)
