Ian Anderson is phenomenal. He taught himself to play the flute after he decided he would never be as great a guitarist as Clapton; in doing so, he came up with this way of sort of speaking and playing that flute simultaneously, creating a completely different sound, and thus, the flute was introduced to rock & roll. Saw Tull in about 1981 or so, front row, amazing. What a showman. It was Tull that began using the big screens at their concerts, like every artist now who performs live. They called it Tullevision. Jethro Tull is a remarkable, poetic, sort of a medieval vibe of a band.

Brilliant. So glad I grew up listening to bands like Jethro Tull who took musical journeys and could back up their playing with poise, poetry, and character. As a a guitarist, Martin Barre has always been high on my list as a craftsman. Ian Anderson once commented on his occasional awkwardness "He walks into doors, falls out of windows, but he plays one lot of guitar". : ) Kudos to all band members here. Very tight, and well performed! Thank the heavans for bands like Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant, and the Strawbs. Those were different times.

I and my band saw Jethro Tull playing at Chiswick Polytechnic in 1964 or 5/6. I must say Ian Anderson, you've changed. Those were the days. You had a strong image and a strong individual sound. You wrote the writing on the wall.....and made it where so many others failed. It makes me happy to live to say this. Don't anyone bother writing back, youtube have blocked everything for me...they don't like it when someone tells the political truth.

It's really too bad that they caught all that backlash when they won the Grammy for the best Heavy Metal band. They became "uncool" for a long time. But when you revisit some of his music from the last 50 years…and watch his performances on KZbin, you really get a sense of how great Ian Anderson really is. This is just one of many Jethro Tull videos that capture his genius.

I saw them at Merriworth Post Pavilion in the 80s; they were fantastic. Been listening to them since the 70s--such melodic precision and beauty.

Ian Anderson is really an incredible composer, musician and performer. I've heard Jethro Tull's songs probably more than thousand times and I keep listening. Discovered this video some weeks ago and I've seen it already more then 10 times. Also the other live shows of Jethro Tull are awesome.

Im often resistant to the idea that music was better, better written, more creative and just compositionally more sophisticated in the classic era than today...but thats exactly what i thought when this video began. 🤣

Super! Bin seit meiner Jugend (inzwischen Pensionist) Tull Fan. Und die Produktion (Thick as a Brick) ist eine der besten von ihnen!
