Jet pack at 3000AGL? Up there long enough for 2 airliners to make visual contact?? How much fuel do these things carry? Or has there been a major breakthrough? I remember the one in James Bond movie had like 40 seconds of fuel.
@vrghr4 жыл бұрын
The quick answer is, "Yes, there have been." That version in the Bond film was powered with highly pure Hydrogen Peroxide that was catalyzed into high pressure steam & Oxygen by a silver mesh. It had very short flight duration, as you pointed out. There are currently systems that are using multiple small turbojet engines, usually a pair of larger ones on the back, and others strapped to the arms for directional control. These use kerosene, like their larger aircraft cousins, and can sustain flights of several minutes, sometimes up to 10 minutes.

From Mashable: JetPack Aviation's CEO David Mayman said it wasn't them or any of their jetpacks. "It wasn't us," Mayman said. "We're trying to work out who it was as well, or what it was." "We don't sell our jetpacks, and we know where they are," he added. So it's not like someone could be using one of them without the company's knowledge. In fact, Mayman has doubts that it was a jetpack at all. First of all, he said there are only a handful of companies that make jetpacks capable of reaching such heights, and he doesn't think any of them would be "stupid enough" to "risk the whole industry" with a stunt that endangers the pilot, aircraft, and passengers. What's more, Mayman said that what the pilots describe is technologically impossible without a parachute landing. The jetpacks that exist today can only operate for around 10 minutes, according to Mayman. That would be enough time to reach 3,000 feet and fly around for a bit, but then the pilot would need to descend with a parachute. "I didn't hear any reports about a parachute coming down within LAX," Mayman said.

There easily could be some misconception of "jetpack" to those not in the loop. There are all kinds of new turbine engines used in R/C jet flying that provide incredible thrust and aren't much bigger than a loaf of bread. They have been placed on composite wings that are put on the pilot's back and flown around just like an airplane and there are some that are strapped on to the arms and back that provide huge lifting forces. I tend to think is less of a "James Bond" era "Jetpack" than the it is the readily available, though very expensive, newer turbines. As for getting caught? It's 2020. No stupid human trick goes without video and some sort of chest pounding of accomplishment. Somebody in the loop is gonna squeak and the mystery pilot will eventually be exposed to reap the 15 minutes of fame and then prosper from a defense fund GoFundMe when it all hits the fan!

I doubt there were many of these sold in the area and the owner will be getting a call from the feds I suspect. If he is steely cool in his lies he will get away with it otherwise he will be caught, obviously lawyering up will blow it but might be his best chance of escaping. Though I would not be surprised the airliner might have video or he slipped up in his communications with people, once you know who it is it doesn't take much to convict because owning one of a dozen jet pack in the area is strike 1 and 2 with most jurors.

You are correct with your comment about the jet pack guy or gal causing rules and regulations for all the law abiding jet packers. I build & fly free style FPV quadcopters and the FAA has been hell bent on making new rules for all us law abiding quad pilots to follow due to idiot pilots doing dangerous flights. The idiots are still flying like idiots regardless of the rules but we all get to share the pain caused by them. Keep up the good work keeping us updated on aviation and fire fighting news. I would love to see more of your TAT videos, I bet you have more footage on the cutting room floor, drag it out, splice it up and share :-)

Hello Juan. I have been following your channel and I remember that at times you give your opinion on various motorcycles, primarily the dual purpose type. Friend just bought a 2017 (he bought it with 11 miles on it from a Dealer) Honda "Africa". Bike is pretty impressive and a bit heavy. I ask if you can say a few words about the 2017 Honda Africa?

@@blancolirio Thanks Juan. Oh by the way my friend is 6 foot 6 270 lbs (also 70 years old) so the Honda is a good fit. He is on a "cloud" (happy) over his new bike.

Look up the Opening Ceremony for the 1984 Summer Olympics (incidentally: in Los Angeles too). My whole family was in LA that Summer and my dad was a coach in the "Games" that year (and 5 more times since then). My dad accidentally ended up in the background of the SI "centerfold" shot of the torch hand-off during the opening ceremony. I digress. A stunt professional in a Jetpack flew in during the opening ceremony, IIRC.

Frederick Evans, that’s very cool! I’ll have to dig up that cover. 😎 My memories of the ‘84 Games aren’t as pleasant. I was a starving Midwestern college student at the time, so I took a job house-sitting for a family who went to the Games. They lived in the country and I was to take care of their animals-a ménagerie of pets, not farm animals. One of their cats had been hit by a car in the past and not only was he half-crazed, he was missing a tail and his anus was displaced onto his flank. Another cat caught a chipmunk which I managed to pull from the jaws of death. I took it inside and successfully resuscitated it, after which it promptly escaped my hospital box and ran amok in their house for a full day until I caught it. Lastly, their collie blew his coat all over their dark shag carpeting. I was supposed to clean their house but procrastinated, planning to do it the day before they returned. They came home two days early without letting me know.

I would say it could be an RC aircraft made to look like a guy and a jet pack but there would be no reason to go that high. That being said, Mission Control is just down the 405 there.
@jiveturkey99934 жыл бұрын
I think that's pretty likely Cuz the only way a jet pack guy is going to get that high is if he jumped out of an airplane.

@@TheFrenchPug he gets dropped out of an airplane. I think if someone dropped a guy out of an airplane with a wingsuit with model jet engines attached to it right near LAX some heads would be rolling. I suppose it's possible that it could be done undetected but I kind of highly doubt that.

Didn't anyone on the AA flight get a photo of this guy? Could this have been an alien flying humanoid rather than a jetpacker? Jetpacks don't fly at 3000' unless they launch by skydiving. No such aircraft in the LAX radar. Could jetpack have launched from the roof of a downtown LA skyscraper? And no photos from anyone?

@@Cissy2cute Thanks for that Jetman video from Dubai. I had seen that video well before this recent incident was reported at LAX. An American Airlines crew reported a Jetpack at 3000'. A Jetpack does not have wings like in the Jetman video you referenced. It is much harder to get a Jetpack to that altitude. That's why it may have been a flying alien humanoid instead. A realtime photo would clear this up.
