We got spooled here one night ..mate was using a 80lb fully rollered rod matched with a Penn 12/0 all attached to a shoulder harness....could not tighten drag at all, unless you wanted to end up in the drink....we think it was either a ''huge'' Black Ray or a ''huge'' White Pointer shark

Cheers Kevin. Yeah I'd like to try a bit closer to shore for the squid. But I was told to head out to the end. Overnight would be great if I had some lighting.

Matt, I'm new to your channel and say cheers, mate. Have you made an in-depth view of how to tie and rig for newbies like me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Shelley, thanks for dropping by. No I haven't done these types of vids. There are lots of this info on YT and I am more a vlog style than a edu style. This is a great little resource too: abcmaps.com.au/waterproof-book-of-essential-fishing-knots/

Mate I fished the same spot a few weeks back. Same technique as rapid bay. Bagged out on both mullet and salmon trout. Decent sized ones too. Tassie salmon oil in the burley pot saved the day.
@MattsFishingEscapes4 ай бұрын
Yeah, I was just using a pilchard log burley.

I hope you go down to the jetty at Marion Bay. I got 2 big squid there the other day. Both on Red Heads but I was lucky the tide was all wrong to be getting anything.....but I'll take it.
@MattsFishingEscapes4 ай бұрын
Hi Andy, I did try it twice while I was down there. No good though. There was little to no water movement the weekend I was there. I did fowl hook a banjo ray on a Glowtiger and it wouldn't let go so I had to walk it to the beach to let it go.

Gorgeous day for it 👌🏻That local stitched you up Matt 😂 I have fished Stenhouse Bay religiously every summer for the last 20 odd years & have caught all my fish, squid, rays & sharks from the northern side nothing at all from the southern side. The northern side has more weed & sand. Guy's do balloon at night in summer at Southern tip of the jetty as the Marion shipwreck is located just over 500m from there. It's a long hard trek but the rocks around the corner can provide big salmon & occasionally barracuda no good to eat but a great fighting fish rarely caught here in S.A.
@MattsFishingEscapes4 ай бұрын
Thanks for that. Nice to know. Will try again next time...
@comeatmebro32294 ай бұрын
i wouldnt say hes been stitched up, the southern side is the side you generally balloon for sharks from so thats probably what the local meant. Most people who fish Stenhouse are after sharks
@MattsFishingEscapes4 ай бұрын
Yeah makes sense... was also hoping for some squid but maybe need to be closer to shore for them? More protected water...
@comeatmebro32294 ай бұрын
@@MattsFishingEscapes you get squid off the end but most people do squid around about mid jetty, just a bit up from where the sand and weed meet how deep did you have your float set? at the end of those jetties i try to get my teaser as deep as i can get it, they dont really want to expose themselves at the top of the water collum for too long, i do the same thing at the end of the Edithburgh Jetty and by the gate at Port Giles

Barley up hard Matt, try at night, bring a few bright LED lights face into the water to attract the squid, as there's no lights.
@MattsFishingEscapes4 ай бұрын
I definitely think it would be great at night time if I had some lighting, which I'd need to get. Definitely keen on that on a nice Spring / Summers evening... I had a full 2kg pilchard burley block out with added salmon oil.
@BennyBestt4 ай бұрын
Thats a good amount of burley, try again at night time on a nice calm night, lights make a huge difference, attracts all the small fish etc etc. Even on the jetties like wool Bay etc, that have lights already. Still attracts the bait fish and squid
