Nice! We are working the half circle that starts this right now in class, and then moving into our selected technique. Deashi is one of my better techniques so I am gonna try the backstep off the half circle for sure!

Foot sweeps are great, but against high level non-compliant opponents you're going to have a much lower success rate..!! Assuming No-Gi implies mma or wrestling..!! Stick to high success rate techniques..!! Minimize the likelihood of failed techniques leaving you position compromised..!! When the participants are equally skilled, weighted, and conditioned it boils down to great fundamentals and a willingness to win..!! All the fancy stuff goes out the window..!!

Guy is obsessed with this lame foot sweep. Let it go man. Works once in a while and you don't even end up with position or control when you hit it. Opponent generally lands too far away from you, and can recover their guard or stand back up by the time you close the distance. Focus on better, more practical, proven takedowns, there are many out there, but this is not one of them.

You may not see a lot of high-end wrestlers or no gi competitors utilizing foot sweeps. This doesn't mean they're not effective in competition. First off, very few people take the time out to practice foot sweeps enough to become proficient at them. They are difficult to master. That being said someone who has a great foot sweep knows even when they can't get the foot sweep. It changes their opponents position and stance. Most of the time they'll adjust by pulling the leg that's being attacked with the sweep back. This does two things make them easier to snap down or delay their attacks by having to readjust their foot to their normal stance position before attacking. Also foot sweeps are great setups! Side note, if you were losing your control of your opponent after attempting a foot sweep that can happen but in general, you were doing them wrong or you were not practicing the counter to the counter of a foot sweep.
