By far the best non main role. As a veteran I love how the two have a close, yet quiet friendship. A trust formed from the horrors of war was written beautifully.

This scene gets way more dark when you realize the reason that the "have you been with a woman" question made Jimmy so uncomfortable was that it forced him to think of when his mother took advantage of him.

@@andrewbecker9062 I mean that's the main reason he went to go fight in WW1. School was done, he got his girlfriend pregnant, but the shit with his mom is what really destroyed him. He probably just thought if he's going to die, which he probably thought he deserved, might as well do it honorably.

I just had a terrifying thought: Gillian Darmody is the American version of Junji-Ito’s Tomie. The way she seduces men, manipulates them, drives them insane. The way she took advantage of Jimmy and her grandson and pushed Angela away. The seemingly sweet smiling woman with a sadistic and narcissistic streak underneath. It makes real sense now

I love the scene when, after Richard attempts suicide and he meets those hunters in the woods, he goes to Jimmy's and looks at him in his soul and says a very simple yet powerful question. "Would you fight for me?" Jimmy's reply is "To the last bullet, my friend." And then they go to scalp that land baron after he hit Jimmy with the cane

@@nafemarsh i couldnt agree more. Jimmy was his friend. And Jimmy felt a connection with Harrow that transcends words. They have experienced something extraordinairy together. Now they have to live a civilian life which is a big contrast with the years in the war. When Harrow asked "would you fight for me ?" Jimmy answered "to the last bullet".

hahaha are you serious, i guess to each his own opinion. He would of killed himself(payattention), walked himself into the woods where those hunters would of found his skeletal remains. Ha, Richard has such a fleeting "Ah, yeah, of course that WOULD be the title, wouldn't it" look on his face when Jimmy tells him the book is "The Tin Soldier." Jack Huston is a very talented actor; all of the little subtleties in his performance, the way he makes himself both sympathetic, innocent, yet ruthless all at the same time... I've gained total respect for him since I started watching him in this show.

I've watched Boardwalk Empire so many times now and it occurs to me that the two finest characters in the series are these two FICTIONAL ones, Jimmy Darmody and Richard Harrrow. And in this scene, they actually discuss fiction, with Harrow saying "the basis of fiction is that people have some sort of connection with each other . . . and they don't". But these two fictional characters disprove Harrow's assertion even as he says it; their friendship is instantaneous and sincere, based on shared past experiences and respect--one of the very best pieces of plot/character development in the show. What an amazing masterpiece this series is!

I don't know the actors name, but he's one of the best characters of the entire show. He does a great job with his character and really shows great portrayal of traumatic stress & difficulties after a life altering situation. He doesn't show full blown post war symptoms, which is great, because it plays into his character as being strong willed and being able to cope with scenes of intense violence, pain & affliction, even though he's more of a loner.

To the lost! 🥃 Darmody & Harrow we’re a bad ass team that should have stuck around a lot longer together. If you wanna kill off a major character like Jimmy that early, at least have Richard sign his life over to become Nucky’ top assassin after Nucky does him the favor of rigging the court case and having Richard get parental rights to Tommy with Julia. Would have saved Nucky in the end possibly.

Agree. The writers didn't treat Richard's character with the same respect given in the preceding seasons. I don't recall Richard having any motor skill issues or whatever and the way they ended it made him look like an incompetent buffoon. Only redeeming quality was Richard's "Final walk"

Yeah I think they were clueless what to do with Richard around season 4. He had that run in with the 2 guys in his sister's barn who he was doing murders for, but that storyline ended kind of weak. They could've did more with jimmy too, but from what I heard Michael Pitt was a nightmare to work with on set so they just killed him off. Jimmy and Richard were a bad ass team. They should've had their own spin off series. Lol

According to the "inside the episode" featurette I watched, they portrayed Richard's story in Season 4 as someone who couldn't endure the life of a killer anymore, tried to do something different instead, and was forced to kill again to keep Gillian from getting away with murder. But he couldn't kill as well as he used to partially because of his hand jury and partially because he isn't the same killer he was before.
