Dimension C struck me as a "less is more better" pedal, all the options sound like what i need when i want a chorus effect.
@FastRedPonyCar

I have the Waza Dimension C and it's absolutely flawless. It's got that perfect lush watery chorus that's not too wobbly, not too phasey and in general, just doesn't do anything weird. It's just a great chorus and after owning the Waza CE2, Corona, Tricerachorus, CE5, small stone and Strymon Ultraviolet, the Dimension is chorus perfection to my ears. No need for any fancy controls. It's like they took 4 great examples of a chorus and gave us preset buttons.

Glad to see a DOD FX-65! Just picked one up after seeing it on the TPS episode where ProGuitarShop/Reverb Andy showed his board. I've always liked all those classic chorus sounds but never managed to dial one in that I actually liked for myself, until this pedal. That delay time control seems to be unusual and it just lets me get to something special I've not been able to before. I'm glad I could get in on this while they're available cheaply as I fully expect everyone to suddenly realise how good they are.

Warpaint is a great current band that I can highly recommend checking out. Their beautiful guitar lines are often modulated (two guitar players) with flavors of chorus and vibrato amount other tasteful effects. Those lady’s lay down some serious groves with each instrument (drums, bass, and two guitars) bringing an important component to their songs. The first time I heard them the vocal lines struck me as being brave and ambitious to sing live. Holy cow they manage to pull them off remarkably well. I've been unable to remember for the life of me what chorus pedal I had in the 80's. I was still in high school, so it was 1983 at the latest. My assumption was always that it was a CE-2, because I remember that powder blue color and it's what everybody had. But my memory is that it was stereo out and had a delay time knob. The more I've thought about it the more I'm convinced this was the case. I can epsecially remember turning the delay time up and the rate and depth way down and getting a fat doubling sound that was great on overdriven tones. So after spending some time poking around online, the best candidate I can come up with is the DOD 565-A. It's powder blue, has stereo outs and a delay time control, and I think it was released in 1981. Plus I'm certain that my music store only carried MXR, EH, DOD and Boss pedals. I know it wasn't MXR or EH, and the more I think about it the more I think I didn't want anything Boss. I think I thought the name sounded cheesy. Stupid reason to not want a chorus pedal, but hey I was 17. Anyway, I have no Idea what happened to it. It was one of only three pedals I had back then, along with an MXR Distortion+ and an EH Electric Mistress. No Boss : )

If you can find one, the chorus circuit on the Boss PlayBus HA5 headphone amp is very sweet and wide due to its stereo configuration. It has two sliders: Depth and Rate. It has a stereo CE2 sound at lower settings, a rotary/Leslie quality at around max, with a few unique sounds of its own. I used it for tracking ideas to the recording desk via the headphone jack adapted to RCA stereo into the recorder, in the same way I used the "Rockman II B" in its "Rockmount" to double track rhythm and arpeggiated parts for pseudo 12 string effects. The HA5 also has a 30 ms slapback/doubling delay, and a very good Overdrive circuit. It can sound like "The Ocean" by Led Zeppelin.

Thanks. That was a fun video on all things Chorus Pedal. I have been playing guitar for 53 years now (68 and full-time player). Worked in a music retail store (1980 thru 1997). I was in on the ground (chorus) floor with the Boss CE-1, CE-2 (sold it, missed it, bought another one in 1981 and still have it), Dimension C (still have it). Had a DOD bigger bulkier stereo chorus that was nice but sold it. Now, I rarely even use chorus. But it is such a beautiful sounding effect. Had a Roland Jazz Chorus 120 for a while too. Wish I still had it. One of the originals from the very first year of production. Sigh... Great job on the video bro. I subscribed. Keep'em coming'!

@@rdstudios6289 I had the same problem looked everywhere for an 18v PSU. I found a cheap 10 output isolated PSU 8 are 9v (several at 100ma and 1 at 500ma), one 12v and one 18v. They are cheap, with all the cables to attahc pedals and a couple of polarity splitters thrown in just in case you have non standard centre positive pedals. They are branded 'Donner' or 'Caline', they are generic so lots of other brand names one the same unit. Mine cost me about £20, ($25?). It works very well for the money and does also prevent the problem with using a daisy chain link for other pedals too - you know thething when you get one pedal that's noisy and sends it down the chain. If you just wanted the 18v output at that price you can't really go wrong trying one out.

I have always been a fan of Boss choruses, but closest to my heart has always been the Boss Digital Dimension DC-3. It's the most natural sounding chorus effect pedal I've ever used, and it was love at first sight when I tested it at the end of 80´s. It's still my main chorus unit after these years, and it will remain in my pedal board althought other pedals will change. It gives a very wide three- dimensional sound used in stereo with 2 amplifiers, but it's wonderful even in mono, without fluttering and vibrato. It was in production a very short time at the 80´s, and it's quite a rare chorus unit in nowtimes. And no, my DC-3 in not for sale...

I have the DOD FX65. That has been the one piece of gear I've had in every incarnation of my rig over the years. Love the way it sounds. There's a certain "sweet spot" I've found with it where you get this super thick, huge chorus tone (speed at around 10 o'clock, delay time around 1 o'clock, depth around 2 o'clock). If you have one, try it. You won't be disappointed.

I love the 4 setting on the Chorus, especially with the 2 and 4 on. I think of this as the Prince of Pedals. I love the fact the Dimension has a bit more subtlety. And I kind of appreciate it as much or more for the fact it can bring a mono sound to life in a stereo field, but still keep the character of the original in the center. It's nice on a send, when you can control how subtle that effect is. Love it on my mono Moog Grandmother. And sounds good on background vocals too.

CE-2 all the way. What can I say, I’m a child of the 80s. I did like the MXR Micro Chorus, but eventually sold it because it wasn’t a CE-2. Bought another chorus, which also I like, but it doesn’t quite have that CE-2 magic. I really just need to go but a new Wasatch CE-2, and then I’ll be happy.😆

The Small Clone is, without a doubt, my favorite chorus pedal. I've actually played most of the other "food groups" in this category, and I always come back to Small Clones. I have a rehoused one with a depth knob (so, yeah, more resistance, but SUCH a great balance of simplicity and versatility). While that one's been at the doctor, I've been using another *GEM* of a chorus pedal, the Maxon CS-550! Fun fact: I, too, came out in '85 ;) :P lol

Not to be a nitpicker, but I can't imagine the TC Electronics pedal and the CE-1 were released in the same year. The CE-1 uses an MN3002 bucket-brigade chip, and the TC unit uses an MN3007, which is a later-generation chip (used in the CE-2). I have a TC, and it's a nice pedal with a pleasing sweep. The CE-1 , while a classic, didn't have a lot to recommend it, apart from having two different LFO waveforms; one optimal for chorus and the other optimal for vibrato. Retrosonic makes a nice clone of the CE-1, using NOS delay chips, with some circuit improvements. The original was really designed for use with keyboards. The Dimension C is, to my ears, the best sounding chorus pedal. It uses two counterswept delay chips. As one goes sharp, the other goes flat, and vice versa. Not only does this result in essentially *three* voices - a richer effect, compared to two on most other chorus units - but it has less perceptible pitch wobble because the additional voice/s are never ONLY flat or sharp. Behringer briefly made a clone that permitted any combination of buttons to be pressed, including none (my favorite setting actually). The new Waza version only permits up to two buttons at a time. Realistically, the major difference between chorus pedals is going to be the delay range selected by the designer. Using shorter delay times will get that zone between flanger and chorus where Leslie tones live - something the Electric Mistress did so well (and a Small Clone can be coaxed into doing easily). Using longer delay times will make "boing-ier" sounds available. Since pedals will use fixed anti-aliasing lowpass filters, their tone will be partly determined by the delay range selected by the designer and what sorts of filtering is required to keep clock noise out for that particular delay range. Most chorus pedals could benefit from having a bass-cut option of some sort, particularly for bass players. Nobody in the band wants a bass sound where it's hard to identify the root note because of the pitch-wobble. Cutting the bass in the delay path lets you keep the swirl, but move any pitch-wobble to the background where it isn't distracting. A decade back, Jeorge Tripps was kind enough to give me an MN3011 chip, which has 6 taps, and was used in the (rackmount) A/DA STD-1 Stereo Tapped Delay, most famously used by Allan Holdsworth. I'm hoping to whip up a multi-tap chorus/flanger pedal, using the chip, and roughly based on the STD-1...once I get everything else off the bench. Finally, I will put in a plug for the Diamond Halo Chorus which provides a number of nice features, including incorporation of mild phase-shifting of the clean signal for wider stereo imaging.

kev yes definitely check out the dc2! It’s my favorite pedal and josh left out a key feature, stereo. Now this pedal sounds beautiful in mono but if you can run stereo the sound is massive. The originals are pricey but the waza is a bit cheaper. Happy playing!

@markhammer643 5 жыл бұрын
@@ontheroad579 After engaging in some conversation with others about the 3rd Dim and especially after seeing a gutshot of the pedal, it would seem that, unless TC is hiding another delay chip on the other side of the board (and such things ARE technically possible with surface-mount chips), it is a single BBD design. Having said that, there ARE things one can do to produce an interesting stereo out from a single BBD (as MXR did many years back). The 3rd Dim sounds good, but the Dim C, and its true clones, sound better. Even if you don't use it in stereo, the absence of overt pitch wobble makes it the sort of chorus fewer folks will object to.

Wow, that DOD sounds exactly like Spellbound by Siouxsie live (with Robert Smith on guitar). Bang on. And on a Robert Smith tangent, on the Bloodflowers album and tour Bob took the chorus off his pedalboard - he taped one to the top of his Ampeg combo or used the built in chorus in his Line 6 Flextone. Oh, and my favourite chorus is the first one I ever got, an old, secondhand, beaten to hell CE-2. I always felt I was unsophisticated and one day, some years later, bought a CE-5. Only then did I realise I was perfectly fine with the CE-2 which is much nicer to my ears. The only thing faster than the speed of light is the speed of self doubt!
