The FDR-1 in this video is just magic. In 92-93 my band was doing our first real recording session and the studio owner put me in a room with a Peavey 'Tweed' amp. Back then, nobody knew what that was. It was astonishing. We actually had to re-record one of the first takes because the mic picked-up me screaming at the amp and I was hitting the guitar so hard nothing was in tune.

I really really liked them!

A couple of months ago I found a FDR-1 for a ridiculous price in a small audio and instruments store. I was surprised by all this pedal can offer: incredible volume range, beautiful distortion (for a Squier Strat!), excellent "vibrato" (I'm a tremolo fan) and the long reverb decay, plus the tap tempo. Unbelievable. I bought it with the box AND THE STICKER. I sold it because I needed the cash but don't regret it at all, because I enjoyed meeting this magnificent black box and the new owner could appreciate it as much as I did. Sometimes what I enjoy the most of the pedal geeks world is this: to gain experience collectively, while surviving as amateur or professional musicians in this difficult, monetized world. PS I missed the Record Time, thank you guys!

Amp in a box is a good description. I've had the deluxe and used it during covid when I spent a lot of time at home with a surround sound system that had a 1/4" mic input. It was the least amount of gear that was very satisfying. After covid I brought it to my jam space and used it if someone showed up without an amp. Plugged right into the PA it always got the job done.

I had FRV-1 and I didn't like it until I tried Fender '63 Reverb Unit Reissue Tank . Then I thought "wow this pedal is so close to this tube reverb... even distorts the sound as it should" . After that I tried a lot of spring reverb emulation effects , but only FRV-1 is close to the real thing even if it is digital because it captures these small details . These effects are for nerds or people who can't gig with the real-deal because they are too big and heavy on tour .

I own the FRV-1 and I’ve grown quite fond of it. It has been on (one of) my board(s) since 2012. Great for surf and garagerock, but it can also do more subtle stuff.

I have the Bassman pedal because the Fender Bassman is the best amp ever built. As I can't afford a vintage Bassman, I wanted to get as close as I could. It is a great pedal.

I got a job at my local Music Store in high school from 06-08 or so. We sold a lot of these. Had a whole Boss wall. Was v fun to get familiarized with the whole line and palette of sounds. (And colors!)

Dude! I've had that first pedal for a long while! It's my favorite amp in box pedal ever! It's one of my always on pedals and a key part of my sound. ❤ 2:23

Listened to Diary album from SDR earlier. I thought of the JHS show listening to it. I now see the connection/inspiration. I just started listening to them again. I had the pink album in 97’

I’ve been using the FMB-1 since it first came out. I use it to drive an AC-30 into full bloom. When my first copy broke, I bought a second one. Now have I two of them in working condition. They’re absolutely brilliant and I use nothing else apart from a keeley moded TS-9 and a Fuzz Factory .

it was 2010ish. i was in a small local music store looking for a cheapo reverb pedal. i looked at the usual suspect and was about to settle for a hall of fame reverb (iirc). the dude working at the store insisted that i needed to buy the boss/fender spring reverb pedal. he said is was one of the last ones in stock and he didnt knew if they would get them again and all that bla bla. i hesistated because compared to the hall of fame, it lacks so many features. but the one thing it does, it does very well. i ended up buying the boss and it is the only constant pedal that is always on my pedal board. best spring reverb pedal ever. kudos to the guy at the store almost forcing me to buy the boss pedal lol i still have the box btw

fun fact! the boss br units also have the cosm guitar effects! one of the most popular uses i know of is with Tame Impala, his debut EP was recorded entirely on a boss br unit (i think he uses a boss br 864 but the br 600 does the same things) and his synth guitar tone (tracks like alter ego, why won't you make up your mind, runway houses city clouds, apocalypse dreams, and more) all utilize the boss br's cosm guitar pitch effect!

BOSS OD-20 COSM unit is one of my best ever 2nd hand purchases, so many great drive/distortion/fuzz sounds, +1 and -1 octave options, perfect for home and friend's home recording sessions.

Guys? I still love everything you do, and this episode. Oh! Yeah, I turned 70 today. Sunday I did fingerstyle for offertory... pretty good, my arrangement. Then played 9 holes Disc Golf with guys 32 years younger... and won because my partner is really good, and older than me. Then jammed on new luthier built dreadnought prototype for like 3 hours. Played a yamaha bass, and like Josh, I need a nap now. Never stop! And I won't either. Boss rocks, JHS Pedals Rule!

Sunny day real estate. I remember that album from my college radio days. Think I had it in heavy rotation during lunch hours. Fit the vibe we were going with on the show.

Have the '65 Reverb pedal. I don't use it often but have used it as a reverb pedal and as an amp in a pedal. Always enjoyed it. Have an oddball gig of sorts this weekend and I will try it as a drive pedal. Looking forward to it.

This video made me a big nostalgic. I remember when these came out. I still have a 2007/2008 magazine with a review (or maybe it was just and ad) of them. It's in Spanish. I'll post a picture when I get home. That was the same magazine that introduced me to Sgt. Pepper's, drop D tuning and other bands and effects when I was 15. Changed my life in a way. Half my life ago. Man, back then guitar content on KZbin was barely starting and a lot of it really, really, sucked. Guitar forums were thriving but they were a double-edged sword. Anyway, I wanted those pedals bad! I only had a Roland Cube amp. It did higher gain pretty well but the overdrives and light distortions sucked, and it had no reverb. I never got those pedals... and I never got a Civic, thought I did eventually become the weird neighbor that goes to the mailbox in his underwear. I got into DSP, modeling and plugins heavily too. Fender made the '63 Reverb pedal available in AmpliTube years later, along with 59 Bassman and 65 Deluxe Reverb amp models. The pedal model was good, and the Vibratone model in the package sounded amazing.
