the thing about these videos unlike, textbooks, is that they are more usable, once you go through the lesson once, twice, three times, maybe its the video format - the ability to read out loud, to pause, to go back and repeat a segment, but it also has alot to do with the instructor

Hey, first off, thanks for the video, absolutely brilliant explanation. But also I’m but confused why at 1:29 平常 is used instead of 平时。I was taught that 平时 refers to time and place, while 平常 refers to people/objects etc. Could you please clear this up for me? Also, what’s up with 通常? I’d be extremely thankful.

Hi, there, thank you for your question, as far as I understand, in this case, 平时 and 平常 are interchangeable, but you can see they are slightly different in meaning, 平常 means normally as is stated in the video, and 平时 means at ordinary time or as usual. Hope my explanation helps.

In Chinese, 平 means physically flat, therefore, it could also conceptually express fixed/constant and ordinary, 时 means time, so when we combine them together, this word has the meaning of at most of the ordinary time, i.e. as usual. On the other hand, 常 means long lasting or always, so 平常 means usually or normally, Hope this kind of explanation could broaden your understanding of these similar words.

Are both these grammatically correct and sound natural? I thought 才 always a negative connotation, so我给他说明他才理解 has a sense of frustration - with the same meaning as 我只有给他说明他才理解。Is this correct? In comparison does the following both mean he understood it very quickly? 我只要给他说明他就理解 我给他说明他就理解

@qianfeizhou82652 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are right, they are both grammatically correct. And they express almost the same matter of fact. But the difference is their emphasis on different point. The first one emphasizes the duration of how long I like you, the second one emphasizes the particular point of when I started to like you.

SORRY TO BE A STICK IN THE MUD BUT AT 4:27 SAYING I HAVE BEEN TO AUSTRALIA LONG AGO IS WRONG IN ENGLISH. WE CAN'T USE THE PRESENT PERFECT WITH A SPECIFIC TIME. YOU CAN SAY I WENT TO AUSTRALIA LONG AGO OR I HAVE BEEN TO AUSTRALIA MANY TIMES BUT YOU CANNOT MIX BOTH. Please ignore the caps I don't know how they got there.
