I had an “aha” moment here. I feel bad not being able to workout like other people or even my past self now being diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. I have a lot of inflammation and get discouraged if I take a day off training. However, on my good days I feel energetic, focused and have great workouts. Using your app for a few weeks now. I allowed myself to have the “rest days” even though inside I didn’t want to, but it also gave my inflammation a chance to calm down so my next workout I can get right back at it. Great tips Jillian! Down 3 lbs in 2 weeks. Aiming for 1 lb a week until I reach a healthier BMI.

I've been into fitness my entire life but I've been having a hard time getting back to a normal level of fitness after taking about 2 years off. I've wondered if it's my age (38), just being out of shape, or if I need to have blood work and tests done. I'll do a workout...I'll do it to 30% of the intensity I would have done it in when I considered myself to be very fit. I modify the movements, I don't do as many reps, I'll often do the moves without weights. Just trying to ease in slowly to avoid injury. And then I'm so sore for not 2-3 days like a normal person.....but FOR 5 DAYS! Like I went straight from a couch potato to doing a 1.5 hour P90X workout or something. Which is not the case. Like I said...I'm doing about 30% for what I think full effort looks like. I'm literally going through the motions to get my body use to the movements. Then I'm so worried that I'm going to pull something...tear something..I'm alarmed that I don't feel like I know this body. I don't stay with it. There have been several times that I've tried now...and same thing...5 days where I'm walking like I road a horse for 3 days straight. My legs are sore to the touch. That's what I look like after 30% effort! And my partner is like, "You're doing too much! You have to take it easy and not push so hard out of the gate." I explain exactly what I did...what sets, reps, and how long. I explain that I couldn't do less unless I stayed on the couch. I don't know if my body just isn't processing lactic acid...like is that a thing? 4 days ago...I did 4 sets of squats...8 reps. I did a warm up set of 8 squats...then I did 3 more reps of weighted squats. Then I jumped on a rebound trampoline for 10-12 mins....to get the blood flowing to those muscles. I massaged my legs with a massager to help with lactic acid because I know how working out has effected me the last several times. That was the full extent of the activity. Today...4 days later my legs are so tight and I'm walking like I'm new to horseback riding. Open to suggestions here.

There was another video of Jillian's where she was talking about recovery too and how often HIIT exercises should be performed a week. According to her recommendation, I had been over doing HIIT in my workouts. I did 2 weeks straight of Tabata style HIIT with 2 rests days on both of those weeks. I was feeling very tired around 7 pm every night during those 2 weeks. I just happened to be going on vacation to Myrtle beach after those 2 intense weeks too. So, I was able to give my body a 4 day rest. With the exception of the 2 days where the motel elevator kept breaking. I had to climb up and down 5 stories of stairs for 2 days. Everyone was out of breath doing it, but me lol. Great warm up though and my quads felt it lol! Anyways, my body was craving sugar during this whole trip and I decided to give in, which was a little unusual for me. I love sweets and sugar, but I stay away from sweets for the most part and eat fruit instead, have a bowl of sherbert, or chew sugarless gum when I have cravings for sweets. So, between Jillian's recommendations on how often to perform HIIT workouts a week, my exhaustion, and my sudden craving for sugar prompted me to do a Google search to see why I was so fatigued. I am glad I did too. I learned the difference between anaerobic and aerobic exercise and what your body uses for energy while performing them. No wonder I was craving all that sugar. I still managed to keep on my health and weight loss goals. And, what is so EXCITING, I believe, I inadvertently tapped in to my "fitness" high AKA "runners" high. The first day I went back into my workout routine after my 4 day vacation/rest, I decided to do some hi-low aerobics for an hour. About 35 mins in, I was in heaven and felt my fitness high for a few minutes. I am on my light cardio day today again and I want to see what I can do. I miss those highs, they're the best! Thanks for your advice Jillian! A little advice here and there goes a long way. I will continue to watch your videos for more fitness and health advice. Also, good heads up on the collagen supplement you recommend. It has the added MSM, glucosamine, and chondroitin for joint benefits that is an absolute must for me with my 10 year old knee injury. So, yeah thanks again for such good info!
