Smart marks are ridiculous. They complained that WWE was "too silly" and couldn't wait until AEW got started so that they could get a true alternative to that product. Tony Khan promised "sports-based" wrestling and what did we get? We get silly antics every single week, but the smart marks are quiet about that. It's bad when WWE does it, but it's okay when AEW does it. AEW had their chance to do something different and bring competitive sports based wrestling to the mainstream, but instead, we're getting a guy who wrestles with his hands in his pockets and play kicks people; space aliens; people getting run over by golf carts; a man who thinks he's a dinosaur; teleportation; etc, etc, etc. They can't compete with WWE, because they're trying to be WWE. They're doing the same silly shit that Vince does.

I'm glad that there's at least one podcast out there that calls wrestling as they see it. There are people out there that actually like comedy wrestling and defend it to the death. I guess end of the day there are just different perspectives on wrestling. I'm glad that the one that doesn't like comedy wrestling just so happens to have a no-nonsense, to-the-point, hard hitting vernacular. With profanity laced in there from time to time for good measure lol. Breath of fresh air.

Nobody on AEW is more over than they were a year ago, in large part because almost nobody gets promo time. I used to watch the show every week and they have some incredible talent but I didn't know why I was supposed to care about so many of their guys, and eventually gave up for more thorough things to do with my Wednesday nights. No I don't watch NXT either, I don't want to support WWE at all.

@@tyrannostoragerex3637 Otherwise, yeah Kenny is like a nobody in the US when he pretty much came from Japan on a silver platter. Jericho has spent all of 2020 doing comedy. Moxley has had some bad luck with injuries and his wife getting sick, so I can't blame him or the company too much. He's largely been serious. The Bucks were the supposed "best tag-team in the world" and lost a bunch and aren't special. Cody is about the same he was before. Maybe a bit less after losing to Jericho. You could Sammy Guevera is more over but is he going to beat Moxley? Or Cody? Probably not.

@@wuttamark8584 To me, Omega died the week he teamed with Nakazawa. I also remember PAC attacking Nakazawa, and then nothing. No Nak-wants-revenge-and-PAC-squashes-him match. Just nothing. Omega never washed the stink of that match off to me. Jericho I can largely give a pass to. He's been a master of balancing comedy into his act since last millennium. It's stupid that AEW didn't establish why Broken Matt is Broken Matt and has a semi-sentient drone, and it's stupid AEW wastes its' biggest mainstream star on Pockets, but those things aren't Jericho's fault. Moxley is fine too. A little dull but fine. The Bucks wrestle essentially the same match every time and are sucktastic promos. Corny's analysis of why their loss to Private Party didn't put them over is must-listen stuff. Sammy probably is more over than at the start and kudos to him for figuring out to use signs to do promos when he isn't given a mic.

Both promotion's "big budgets" are the PROBLEM. Everybodys getting paid TOO MUCH to have any incentive to ACTUALLY WORK. New Japan is the best promotion on earth because ITS AN HONOR TO BE THERE NOT A FAVOR FROM A FRIEND. That shiny diamond bullshit belt DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING. Nobody IN THE PROMOTION shows any hunger for it so why would I want to put it on my wall?

You do have a point. I am an AEW fan, but do not appreciate the silly shit they do from time to time. Orange Cassidy is a special case. He’s great live due to the audience. Without that, why. NJPW is a promotion that is a privilege to work it due to the very harsh process to even get in the card. When one does, it’s treated special due to the fact they ACTUALLY earned it. AEW and WWE just wave their pocketbooks around and have no other incentive to kick it up a notch. Unless you are paid 7 figures and a main player.

Blackie BlackMetal AEW can be a NJPW like promotion, but they are set to do silly WWE-lite comedy. Inside and outside of the ring. I want AEW to succeed because of the level of talent there. Like AEW can have ppvs like DoN2019, Revolution 2020, and Full Gear 2019 where all matches are of top quality, but if they continue to justify a 5 foot nothing, 100 pound soaking wet “wrestler” going head to head with monsters like Lance Archer, then idk how people will continue to stick around. They need to play with their strengths and stick with it. BE THE ALTERNATIVE. This was the issue with TNA 2007-2013. Prior to that era, I highly believe that TNA could have continued to thrive and grow.

i remember when AEW was just starting i was so excited for it. i had quit watching the WWE back in march 2013, and didn't come back till November of last year. i thought AEW was the absolute bees knees. well hearing Jim talk about it now i can vividly see all those past matches, spots, angles, etc. etc., and good lord me from back then was stupid. now a days with AEW i feel like the kid in the incredibles who gets asked by Mr. incredible what is he waiting for, and he says, "something amazing i guess." then Mr. incredible says me to kid. it really is WWE if it was all independent talents with some former higher up people.

In AEW literally nobody cares about any of the titles. Brian Cage was the only one who even wanted a belt... but then they just gave him one for no reason. They don't need championships and they don't need refs. It just seems like there's no point to any of it.

ALL wrestling, at lease on the "pro" level has to be fun for those watching. The DIFFERENCE between silly, parody wrestling and "real" pro wrestling lies in the realm of the ability of the watchers to be able to suspend their disbelief and enjoy what they're watching. IMHO, right now, there is NO "real" wrestling. The closest anyone comes to it is NXT and even they are pushing my ability to suspend my disbelief. Unfortunately, for me, I think I was much better entertained when I thought pro wrestling was REAL! Now that I know what I know, it's much more difficult for me to 'buy" that the wrestlers are really trying to win and that is a shame. I've always loved pro wrestling, but the current product is full of "tells" between wrestlers, or too many 'tells" when you can tell when one wrestler is telling another one what to do next in a match. Wins and losses mean nothing anymore, if they ever really did! you GOTTA have a bad guy to boo and a good guy to cheer. That doesn't happen much anymore. I could say a lot more, but this isn't MY video or blog...so I'll shut up for now.

For the record, it's NOT Handy TV. It's H and I TV, H and I standing for Heroes and Icons. I watch that channel a lot, and I really love the fact that they have a programming block they call All Star Trek, that features one episode each of the original series, the Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise. It says All Star Trek and DOES NOT include Star Wrecks Discovery or Picard. I couldn't say it any better my own self.... but I digress.

When I think of wrestling being "Silly and Fun" I think back to when I was a kid and the Rock 'n' Wrestling Connection was going on and/or Cyndi Lauper's "Goonies 'R' Good Enough" music videos (yes, it's a 2 parter.) I'll take Rowdy Roddy Piper and Bobby Heenan just talking over the stuff that's going on now. I love and miss both of those guys. I'm sure they'd be just as hot as Corny right now.

Do you know what AEW haven't done with anyone of their faces yet? Have someone clean house. You know the scene. A group of heels are beating up a good guy and then a furious hero tears down the runway and goes beserk in the ring. It's one of the best ways to get a face over and is a reliable crowd-pleaser. In AEW we only ever see even-sided brawls.

Where did this "wrestling is supposed to be fun" nonsense start? It has no basis in reality whatsoever and for some reason people take it as gospel now. The problem is that when people say "fun," what they mean is "goofy." Wrestling is supposed to be goofy to them. The fans now are man children who don't want to grow up and want to perpetually be 10 years old. These are the same people who think the Star Wars prequels are actually good movies because they liked them as a kid. It's Peter Pan Syndrome. If the same fans that exist today were around 25 years ago, then the Dungeon of Doom skits would be called the greatest thing ever and Mantaur would be the biggest star on the indies. I mean, that's what pro wrestling is now, right? Just silly skits and goofy gimmicks to make these Peter Pan adults in their black Bullet Club tees high five one another and talk about how "epic" it is.

I don't understand why AEW they can't see this. WWE's audience is there for the taking. All they have to do is put on a serious show that adults (and kids) can enjoy. The hardcore soy fanbase will support them anyway, so why not?

The problem with modern wrestling is that indy wrestling is now gonna be more mainstream because of the fact aew literally is basically a indy promotion that got over with a son of a billionaire, aew obviously has majority of a roster from the Indies who wrestler without “selling” or “understanding the basics of wrestling as a whole” & the guys that are getting into wrestling look like their 15 years old and it just overall shows how wrestling now is just a open invitation to live a dream you only should be dreaming of because of the fact a lot of people who wanna be a wrestler aren’t good enough and aew/indy wrestling takes those people. But don’t get me wrong their are people in the indies that aren’t making a joke out of wrestling and they deserve to be the faces of indy wrestling because they’ll fix wrestling as a whole so us modern fans can enjoy it how it was before.

Should change it to A Ton of Wrestling Is Embarrassing. A WWE ppv ends with a match where two main event talents go underneath a swamp and out pops a wacky masked man for the title supposedly. And then on AEW a week prior we have a segment where one wrestler drops orange juice on another. I don't know how these lows get topped but I have a feeling we haven't see the last of this years absurdity

Cody isn't a babyface or a heel. He's sort of a tweener character that leans one direction or the other to fit the situation. He's basically being the AEW version of NWA's Nick Aldis who would be heelish in one match then honourable in the next till NWA had a somewhat settled roster.
