Jim really put Mama Cornette over so much on Mid South in 84. One of my favorites was when Bill Watts was interviewing Corny on Mid South TV in January of 84 and told him he and the Express had been fined $2500.00 for their tactics against Magnum T.A and Mr. Wrestling 2. Cornette replies "You know Bill Watts what twenty five hundred dollars means to me? A Phone call home to Mama! Classic! I attended almost every Mid South Little Rock house show as well as Pine Bluff, Searcy and a few other towns between the fall of 82 and end of 86. When the Express were there they had incredible heat. During Mid South Cornette, The Express had the most heat of the territory next to Ted Dibiase.

One reason I believe I got along so well with Cornette (who is an awesome human being, in spite of anything you may have heard) in our brief time working together was our very similar backgrounds. Besides growing up in the same general area of the country (Kentuckiana) and being raised on the Dick the Bruiser shows and Memphis shows, we both had mom's who were supportive of our endeavors (whether they understood it or not) and were always there for us. I lost my mom five years ago and every day without her hurts. I'm sure Jim feels the same way about his mom.

I remember that one confused me. Babyface Benjamin's mother was this absurdly youthful skinny person, heel Benjamin's momma was an absurdly youthful rotund person. I know he was on a "losing streak" at the time, but did they expect us to believe she put on that much weight that quickly? I think Heel Benjamin's momma was a good valet, she was good at what she was supposed to do, but what she did was make Benjamin look like a fool, and since he was one of my favorite wrestlers I didn't like it. I preferred baby face Benjamin, or at least the arrogant fighter who makes excuses whenever he loses heel Benjamin rather than momma's boy heel Benjamin.

The best part of the promo referenced at the end here, is when Jim's talking about taking the bloody jacket from the attack, tearing it in three, and ramming the pieces down or up Paulie and his Midnight! LMFAO! And here's a dream match for you. Renew the Cornette/Heyman rivalry. It'd have to be outside WWE, but before anyone shits on this think about it. Paul comes in to what ever promotion. And he says, the world title picture here is stale, boring, because no one's legit. That he's bringing in the one guy in pro wrestling left that's legit! Of course it's Brock. So Lesnar comes in. Beats the shit out of the whole heavyweight title division over the course of a couple of months, finally has the match with the champ. And it's a banger, the champ gives Lesnar everything he has and it"s a competitive match, but eventually Brock beats the guy. So Lesnar's the champ. And of course no one can beat him. And Paul is crowing. And then one week Jim shows up. And he says"Paul, you lucked out 30 years ago with that mess in JCP. But I've got a guy who has three times the amount of MMA wins under his belt than Brock, and he's a guy who's been a champion in pro wrestling too! At that point, people might be thinking Shamrock. But of course not, Ken's too old. The music hits, and it's Josh fucking Barnett! Now, the people here who are wrestling and MMA fans, tell me the promotion who ran that angle wouldn't have a license to print money.
@insupportofjunhado
@insupportofjunhado 4 жыл бұрын
Finding the promotion would be the only problem there. New Japan could be it, if they can tolerate Lesnar again after how he treated them the first time, and for that matter, Lesnar can be trusted to behave himself over there the second time. CMLL, well again, if it takes Inoki the better part of a year to get Lesnar in line who down there is going to keep Lesnar with the program. The Khans definitely have the money to outbid McMahon if they want to, but then will their staff and Cornette be able to put aside their differences? Impact, ROH, NWA, MLW, APW, PWR, etc, they don't have the money...well ROH has the money but it's parent company won't spend it(I'd love if they proved me wrong but history shows they barely spend the time, much less the money). But I suppose if one of the bigger Japenese feds or if the British promotions came together for another World Of Sport type deal, it could happen. It definitely reads like a program worth watching.

@@insupportofjunhado As much as JC can't stand most of the guys in AEW not likely. I know it's a pipe dream. Hell, after what went down with NWA, I doubt Jim sets foot in a promotion again. Basically it was just an idea I had that sounds really cool, but won't happen lol. Glad I'm not the only one who sees the possibilities.

So was mama Cornette the inspiration for the character who owned wkrp in Cincinnati. She gave her son a radio station to operate. Or was she like the mom on 2 and half men.

What about Little Jimmy?
@insupportofjunhado

Well little Jimmy did show up on camera. R-Truth smashed his dad, big Jimmy, in the face with a water bottle. Before all you little jimmies out their in the WWE Universe were collectively little jimmy anyway...well actually little Jimmy was originally Jim Morrison, so while he didn't show up everyone knew who he was. I hated R-Truth's insanity gimmick, but for the first few months or so it was great. They just dropped the ball, as usually happens.

Jim is right. Mama Cornette was best kept as an figment of our imagination. The one time I thought we would see her was when The Original Midnight Express jumped him, Bobby & Stan.

That's it. During every Jim Cornette podcast there needs to be a Dusty Rhodes impersonation.
