Nice to hear Jim talk about horror movies and his mom. It has me appreciating my mom even more...who never had a problem letting me see movies like Friday the 13th, Scanners and Night of the Living Dead. She knew that I knew that it wasn't real and that it was something WE liked. THANKS MA!

My mom did the same! Any horror of any run. We (she) watched any show of any description that aired anywhere close or on any cable we could access. Any of it: Big Chuck & Houlihan/Lil John (not that one), Ghoulardi, Svenghoulie, Commander USA, Elvira, Mystery! (with Vincent Price), Joe Bob Briggs' Drive-In Theater, MonsterVision, 100% Weird, Mad Movies, Up All Night, Night Flight (when they would occasionally do movies instead of music videos/ documentaries or other random fringe pop culture)... you name the outlet, she was there! I was always a huge mark for practical effects, so I wasn't so much into the gore for gore's sake, but more like "okay, that's rubber... that blood looks like they used Karo syrup and the rest are squibs on tomatoes... oh, how did they do *that* to look so "real"??" instead of the normal "ew, blood" reactions a child my age should've had nightmares over. It's indirectly thanks to mom that I got a letter from THE Joe Bob Briggs! Such a cool dude.

I'm pretty close to Jim's age. I was a total monster kid thanks to my dad. He passed away at 91 a couple years ago. Our horror host in the Philly area was Dr Shock. My dad had me watching universal/hammer movies as a youngin. We made all the monster aurora models. And yup we had the whole super 8 projector film set up with the screen and all (castle films released them). And yes the covers were cool. I still have a few. I listen to corny for this type stuff more than the wrestling. It's the memories and really makes me miss my dad. Kolchak was incredible. Dan Curtis also did Dracula,Dr Jekyll. Thanks for this trip down memory lane.

I used to look forward to collision when punk was there, now I just skim through the show which is a shame

Snappy Pappy may have came from a line in the Mel Brooks movie High Anxiety. Was a scene they were trying to sneak onto an airplane, and did such pretending to be an obnoxious elderly couple. Believe me, it makes sense in the movie. Anyways, they are talking about Bloody Marys and Mel brings up Snappy Pappy. So that may have been where that came from. Also, glad to hear Jim grew up on horror like I did, from a very young age. My fav movie from when I was a little girl up through today is a werewolf movie, Ginger Snaps. And if not for my love of horror and a certain wrestler named Undertaker, I probably wouldn't have stuck around as a wrestling fan as long as I did either. 😉
