The saddest thing is The Young Bucks spent a long stretch of their careers riding the wave of the Bullet Club which means they were henchmen to Prince Devitt (Finn Balor), AJ Styles, and Kenny Omega. They "sold merch" but it was all Bullet Club merch, they didnt even start Bullet Club Devitt did. AEW wasnt their brainchild-it was Tony Khan's. So what are they getting credit for? Indie shows...

Most people in the states only know him for his AWA run and his controversial reign as AWA champion. But in Austria and Germany (especially Bremen where i am from) he was considered an icon and an incredible influential figure for the rise of pro wrestling over here. He promoted big wrestling events during the christmas season in Bremen during the 80s and early 90s and brought in big names like Andre the Giant, Chris Benoit, Bradshaw, Fit Finlay, Jushin Liger and Terry Funk, while also promoting local talent and the house was always packed. Imagine if the American Baseball Hall of Fame tried to regularly induct Japanese baseball players who never played in the US - they, best case, would resort to purely mechanical debates on statistics because they’d be totally divorced from the cultural context of when those players played. If Dave wants to celebrate Japanese wrestlers, he needs to get Japanese wrestling experts to be his voters. The corollary to that is that historians should be the only ones who vote for the historical wrestlers, the journalists actively covering wrestling and former wrestlers should vote for modern wrestlers (and only those who are not actively wrestling, it’s absurd to induct active workers before the full arc of their career is done), etc. etc. Instead this HOF is just the Wrestling Observer Newsletter HOF as Brian said, because Dave gets to stack the voter pool.

How can someone who is on record for drawing more in merch than anyone since Cena not be eligible for the Hall of Fame? This guy worked with them all, from Goldberg to Jericho to Brock to Kane despite being a “new” guy. As The Fiend everyone came back to work with him like Lawler and Foley and Angle because it was so over. The Wyatt Family vs The Shield was a legendary feud. The answer is yes. Johnny Saint was a draw in England. Cards with himself against Mick McManus, 'Crybaby' Jim Breaks, Steve Grey, Rollerball Rocco, and Fit Finlay, were big draws. People came to see him tie a villain in knots, and embarrass them in the middle of the ring. While Big Daddy had all of the hype, the fact is Johnny Saint was British wrestling's ultimate blue eye (babyface), and to borrow a quote from Corny that he used to use about Sid Vicious and Arn Anderson. Big Daddy, you saw it once and it was over. Johnny Saint would draw you solid money for 20 years. That was proven when Joint Promotions under Big Daddy and booked by his brother Max Crabtree struggled to draw at live events, and this was before they lost TV. As Big Daddy was as insulting to adult fans in the UK, as cartoon wrestling was to people in the Southern United States who had watched the style of the territories before Vince's national expansion. It was even worse for Joint Promotions after they lost TV, with them failing to pack out buildings between 1988 and Big Daddy having to retire after a heart attack in late 1993. They had tried so much to build the promotion around him and him alone, that their next move was to sign Davey Boy Smith in 1994 when he was between jobs. Which lasted about six months before he was picked up by the WWF again, and Joint Promotions ultimately shut down in 1995. Johnny Saint meanwhile was still drawing crowds in All Star Wrestling, both at live events against the likes of Mark Rocco while they were still on TV. But even afterwards he would still draw in an audience as the top billing by contesting the light heavyweight championship against the likes of Steve Grey, Fit Finlay, or Dave Taylor. Or tagging in the main event against the likes of Kendo Nagasaki.

I don’t know if CIMA should be in or not but if you haven’t seen his performance in the 2000 Super J Cup, you’ve got to. It’s a high water mark for Japanese wrestling (in my humble opinion.)

CM Punk will never in Uncle Daves "Wrestling Observer Hall Of Fame" cause it'll upset his daddies *The Counterfeit Bucks* Also if you listen closely at Uncle Dave when talking about his daddies, you can hear the *hawk tuahs* he's giving them.

If CM Punk never got in WWE and had the career he had, Tyler Black, Bryan Danielson, El Generico and Kevin Steen would be still be wrestling in bingo halls. I always felt like Punk's signing was the butterfly effect in wrestling, he was patient zero for indie guys after the fall of WCW and ECW.
@maxxdahl6062Ай бұрын
@@athanaskozhuharov9700 It was the fall of the territories that caused Indy wrestling to happen. Bunch of promotions without either the knowledge or the money to do anything seriously, same with the wrestlers. Neither WCW nor WWE were going to find as many people who knew what they were doing and had to start making their own.

LOL not having Steiners, Bulldogs, or Von Erichs but having Balding Dough Boys says it all on what a joke Meltzers "awards" are. But I honestly don't believe anyone really voted Balding Dough Boys in. Meltzer just lied and put them in. Everything about Meltzer is a bad joke.

If the Bucks were really successful in ROH, we wouldn't have AEW right now because there would have been no need - ROH would have become huge if the Bucks, Omega, etc were really as good as guys like Dave keep pushing. The fact that AEW shows can't crack a million viewers shows that they are not popular or successful so this has nothing to do with their work and is simply so they can now go on AEW tv and call themselves a HOF team. We laugh at the joke that the wwe HOF has turned into but having the Bucks in when the Bulldogs, who really did change tag team wrestling, or the Steiner are not makes this HOF a complete sham.

I think you cannot count on modern voters to have enough awareness of historical figures from the distant past to vote them into any Hall of Fame. After a certain point, you just have to put them in if you want them to be in. I have been a wrestling fan for over 30 years, and I have never heard of a couple of people that Father Jim and Brian discussed in this clip. I think that is the case with a lot of the voters as well. That is why the more recent wrestlers get many more votes than the historical figures, even if the historical figures had much greater accomplishments in the business. Jim and Brian are essentially wrestling encyclopedias. They can recite dates, times, and people off the top of their head that I could never hope to remember. Most people aren't that knowledgeable.

A British wrestling card traditionally had weight divisions and the card pretty much had to be led by a heavyweight or heavy-catchweight match. Johnny Saint competed at lightweight but was always a fan favourite and probably a good draw. Along with Marty Jones, he was certainly an early favourite of mine. In fact if we're dedicating award categories outright to pro wrestling greats, let's call it the Hall of Jones.

Dave's HoF has the issue every HoF has. You can't get everyone. You know, sonce a HoF class is typically 5 at a time, obviously there will be omissions. Like, as a fan of baseball, it always irked me how long it took Canadian baseball great Larry Walker to make the hall. But that's a necessary evil of elections to a Hall of Fame. Like, could I say, no matter how much I, as a Canadian baseball fan, love Larry Walker, say he would deserve to get in over, say, Willie Mays? Of course not. But that is what a Hall of Fame *can* and should control. You can't change that deserving people may not get in, or that it will take long. But you can control that undeserving people *don't.* Dave doesn't do that. In fact, the way Dave has votes tallied essentially ensures undeserving people will get in by his bizarre voting and category system and the fact that he lets both "journalists" likely meaning assorted people with wrestling podcasts and no historical appreciation or real journalistic credentials and current wrestlers vote. Which I assume does not mean real talent like CM Punk or Cody Rhodes that may have some historical context. I assume it means the assorted indy guys that talk to Dave. To again go back to baseball, while I have issues with their voting comission, I do prefer it be them casting votes at least. I dread to imagine what Cooperstown would look like if the Hall was filled by passing a ballot box through every MLB clubhouse. Every facet of the wrestling journalism empire that Dave has built over the past several decades is just becoming a joke. Even his once vaunted historical knowledge is getting suspect, as Brian pointed out, with Dave trying to give credit to the Bucks for ROH becoming profitable.
