Big respect to Corny for treating the jobbers with respect. Looking back, yeah, those MX enhancement matches were a lot more entertaining and did a lot more to show off what they could do than just beating the shit out of losers for 30 seconds.

In my freshman year of wrestling, my grizzled old coach gathered the team around the mat and explained to us that at some point, some dude might try to stick a finger up our butt during a match. He called this act of digital penetration "checking the oil," and it's practicioners "candy mechanics." Under no circumstances were we to ever stick our fingers in our opponents butts, and should it ever happen to us, we were to a) immediately bring it to the refs attention, so there was no confusion when we b) fought the guy. I am horrified to learn that one of my favorite wrestlers from my childhood is a notorious mechanic. Damn it Ricky Morton.

So I wonder if any of the stars messed with wrong job guy and got receipts from one that was legitimately tough. Ricky Morton isn't that big a guy and I can imagine someone would take offense to having him stick his finger up their butt. But then legitimately tough guys probably don't end up as jobbers in the first place. I'm actually kind of curious how career jobbers ended up as such. I can understand trainees doing jobs for a bit until they learn the ropes but who are these guys that are on TV in squashes for years at a time? If the money was good, sure, but I don't see why you would stick to a job where Ronnie Garvin and the Road Warriors rough you up every week.

@@kalen2465 Its not something that any wrestler wants to encounter. Bad coaches will have their weaker wrestlers do things like that in an attempt to throw off a stronger or higher skilled wrestler in a match. Highschool wrestling in the 80's was very competitive and rules pertaining to holds were strict. Cheaters did that kind of thing.

I worked as enhancement talent for a few promotions. Wrestled Abdullah the Butcher. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHOmpoyjfcynnc0 All the top talent that I worked with treated me very well, in and out of the ring. One of the things that will get you over with the mid card and main event guys is your professionalism in the ring and in the locker room. There were stories of wrestlers from one wrestling school who were going to WWF for enhancement work that were getting the crap kicked out of them because the students developed a reputation for being cocky and arrogant. Before the match with Abby, we introduced ourselves to each other and he explained what he wanted me to do and showed me how he was going to blade me. After the match (I was carried out of the ring) the SAC doctor examined me. I sold it for him and Abby was across the room, watching and winked at me. After the doctor walked away, Abby came over, cleaned off the blood, sanitized the wound, put on a band aid and thanked me for my work. At the end of the night as everyone was leaving the locker room, he took my shower towel, wrapped it around my neck and told me to wait until I got out of the parking lot to take it off, then told me NOT to sign autographs...keep selling it. Later, one of my mentors said that Abby told him how happy he was with the match and how well I worked with him.
