To reference something that Eric bischoff has said about Russo. “He has no concept of how the television business works.” I recently listened to Eric’s podcast where he discussed russo in wcw and the fact that russo complained that he was given free reign by the network until the advertisers started complaining and then suddenly he wasn’t allowed to have someone call some woman fat, and that’s why the ratings were dropping. So with everything that bischoff a tv guy has said about russo I can’t see why a tv network would hire him to consult on wrestling when he doesn’t understand that ratings only matter when you can sell ad space. With the incoherent way AEW gets delivered. I’d say he may be consulting with them. But I doubt that too. I’m more likely to believe he’s put out the idea hes been consulting on a network so that another network (aew’s network) hires him in the hope he will boost ratings and that can be his back door into aew where he gets to schmooze tony and then get a job directly with tony.
@ReflectionOfPerfection2 жыл бұрын
That's Russo in a nutshell. Roddy Piper was supposed to call Rhonda Singh fat and Turner Broadcasting said no. Russo says "That's why ratings went down bro". How is Piper calling her fat supposed to increase ratings??? Russo had no idea what he was doing, plain and simple
@Giveme1goodreason2 жыл бұрын
@@ReflectionOfPerfection in Eric’s podcast they quote russo in an interview discussing 3-4 things he wasn’t allowed to do and that is why in his opinion that the ratings were dropping. But like you said everything he pointed to was something that in no way would effect ratings. None of it was a big moment that would bring you in next week, it was all some childish garbage that absolutely no one would have noticed. His logic would closely resemble me saying “I’m not a millionaire because I drive to work and fuel prices went up.” Sure fuel prices aren’t helping but that’s inconsequential when it comes to me making $100,000 a year not $1,000,000 a year.

Brian hit the nail on the head. Remember that the idea for the 24/7 title came from USA and that has to be one of the dumbest things on the program. I absolutely believe that shit came from Russo. Russo could've been paid by the network as a consultant and never had contact with Vince. He could also have been playing at a job with AEW and then quit his consulting gig. Consulting work isn't like a talent contract, it's more or less at will and you can just leave when you want. The assumption here is this wouldn't have been tied to Raw as a "project" with an end date "in perpetuity".

Especially since network office executives don't stay network office executives forever. A few turnovers and regime changes later could lead to a situation where he could have finessed his way into getting paid to do *something* by people who don't know better. It's not like it is a _lie_ that he worked for WWE a couple decades ago during their hottest pop culture period in history since Hulkamania. People who complain that Corny talks about Russo too much, Corny cant help it that Vinny the Bro constantly makes a fool of himself.

Who cares about people who don’t want to hear about Sh*t Stain. Most of us love the unending passion of hate you have for him Jim! Most entertaining feud in all of wrestling.

I could listen to Jim talk about $hit stain all day. 😂

“Well, bro, I’m gonna break the news to you on this show. I’ve not said this publicly before from March, pre mania, bro. It was right before Mania in 2020 up until this past Mania in 2022. So basically, bro for two years, I was consulting for the USA Network, bro.” “For two years, bro, the USA Network paid me very, very, very well. Now, if you want to know how this came about, let’s take a couple of steps back and I will explain this to you. “I got in contact with the Vice President at the USA Network who was overseeing Raw, he knew who I was (and) called me back immediately. And we had a long, long, long discussion. And as the Vice President who oversaw Raw… the first thing he did was he went directly to Vince McMahon. “So for two years, two years, I was consulting weekly with the USA Network. For two years, I heard the number and the rating and the viewership and the return on the investment…Don’t tell me I don’t know what the f**k I’m talking about. “When it comes to numbers, when it comes to networks. I don’t care if it’s if it’s 1999 or 2020. I know where they stand. I know what they’re looking for. I know what’s acceptable and unacceptable because I had communication with them for two straight years. So don’t tell me I don’t know what the f**k I’m talking about bro when I am working directly with the network that WWE Raw is on.”

Cornette versus Russo. Somebody make it happen or at least pay them to be in the same room for 1 hour just to talk. Ratings gold 😎

If any of his ideas made it through I never saw them during the Covid Period. We didn't get gratuitous Women's Matches, Heel turns to Face turns back to Heel Turns, or Title changes all over the place like hot potatoes,etc.
