AEW has had stupid deathmatch stuff before. Booking the bank addicted drug robber, the pizza cutter Dominos ad spot, the blood drinking, the staple gun, this wasn't unexplored territory but I think this was the worst. This was not wrestling, this wasn't even deathmatch garbage wrestling, this, the atuff with a hypodermic needle, everything, this was all just torture porn. That wasn't trying to sell a fight. This isn't stuff anyone would do in a fight. This was just showing "Hey look how much pain I can tolerate!" And, they want the name they can have it, a bunch of sickos loving it. A bunch of sick, emotionally unwell nerds. That's "the sickos". This was awful.

And here come the AEW babies! Mate, when reviews of that Mercedes match literally IGNORE that her wig was coming off the whole match, and looking like it was two women fighting a wig, thus by any objective standard ruining the match, and give it a B+, that isn’t a review, it’s not “opinion”, it’s just a bought and paid for puff piece to make AEW and it’s uniquely babyish fans like you happy in your little tummies. Or are Jim and Brian just lying and inventing it? It’s absolutely pathetic. And it’s not even achieving anything. It doesn’t fool most wrestling fans, who have long ago given up watching this absolute garbage, that would have been kicked off TV long ago if they weren’t effectively bribing people to keep in on the air.

All of the metrics that Tony looks at (especially with regard to social media engagement) are extremely flawed. I'm glad they talked about how long it takes PAC to climb to the top turnbuckle and how, if they were managing his opponent, they'd fuck with him while he's taking so long. There was a way things were done when wrestling was at it's best. Guys did stuff that was relatively easy to do and relatively safe to do (except on rare occasions when doing something dangerous made sense and meant something) They did it in a way where it looked so good and crisp that, that you either believed it was real or you had an easier time suspending your disbelief about it being a work. The crowd left loving the babyface more, wanting to see the heel get his ass kicked, excited to see those two wrestle again, and the guys could usually do that same match again the next night. Now look at your average indyriffic match. The guys are constantly doing shit that is dangerous af and conplicate to pull off, but because of how much obvious cooperation and how long it takes to set up, it looks so choreographed that it slaps you in the face with the fat that it's a work. The crowd will chant "this is awesome", the match itself will get over more than the guys will, it will go viral for a couple of months u til the next indy spotfest happens, and one of the guys involved will probably have to take time off afterwards. What kind of Bizarro, anti-psychology is this? 🤦

Pro Wrestling is honestly a second screen thing for a lot of people. We know to ignore most of it; most of it is filler and commentary is ignorable. A lot of fans don't care about commentary anymore since it's more about pushing angles and never so much about the in-ring action. We all went through those awful years where Michael Cole was WWE's top heel commentator - you learn to mute and pay attention to a video game or youtube video or something elsewhere until the action heats up on the show, THEN you pay attention to it. I'm sorry the commentary pisses off Brian *so much,* but man, it's not a big deal to just ignore/mute it.
